2. I play all sorts of stuff during it. Mainly to numb the total horror of having to play a song with zero relevance to me personally or to my taste in music that is played by every single rock covers band on the planet as if the last thirty odd years have never happened or if they have happened that nobody has written a better song since which is quite frankly ridiculous because there must be a gazillion songs to choose from that would go down equally well some of which may have at least been written in this century. And breathe.
3. I'm having a bit of a rethink. Just messing around with the bass and recording a few bits and it seems to have a very definite sweet spot just in front of the pickup. You know, where the sweet spot is! So now I am wondering if I will actually play nearer to the bridge much at all. It's not as easy to play there and the tone is not as nice as I expected. I reckon I will just put it in the regular P bass position and see how I go.

My evil plan is now two steps closer to fruition! Bridge cover and matching headstock. Awaiting mint green scratchplate.
5.
Bill W may well not have been a 'great' bass player. But he may well have been the best bass player for the Rolling Stones. A better bass player may have cocked up the band 'chemistry' for all we know? This is my hope in my band. I know I'm far from the best player. But I think I'm the best player for the band.
+Millions. This, and only this, is what ultimately matters. Anything else is purely for our own amusement.
6. I am quite a fan of slap in a Larry Graham, Louis Johnson way. Which is cool because I am talking the band into introducing some funk stuff so I will actually get to use the technique. Anyhoo, with regards to demos... I know I am probably alone in this but I think a good slap tone is the hardest thing to achieve with a bass. So I understand totally why slap is chosen as a showcase for an instrument. For example I judge every P bass on how it sounds playing Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen. That is how I want a P bass to sound and I want to sound like Freddie Washington when I play one. If it can nail that tone then anything else is secondary to me.

All good techniques. But my slot was too wide, not too low. I still haven't strung her up but using heat to remould the slot seems to have worked a treat. Ok, not the neatest solution but I could probably tidy it up if I cared enough.
8. It's called a pitch shifter.
9. Nice. What did it start out as? Love the Rockstar Games decal!
10. I was just about to post that one!

A bass just doesn't feel like it's mine until I have tinkered with it!
12. I play at the front for rock and the back for funk.

If I had a pre EB Stingray it would be full of extra screw holes and heavily feature gaffa tape.
14. I play fingerstyle, with a pick and a bit of slap all depending on the song/my mood.
15. And you use the pickup cover when playing closer to the bridge?

Actually just found a cunning way to bodge it. Apart from the fact that I am going to put heavier gauge strings on it I realised I had plenty of spare nut material...in the spaces between the slots! I heated up a flat head screwdriver and pushed and moulded some of the plastic/nylon towards the offending slot. I haven't strung her back up yet but it looks as though it's worked a treat. Slightly bumpy at the top edge but slots in good order. She's had a quick fret polish and I've oiled the board...yes, with WD40! I will wait until I have the new pickguard, bridge cover and thumb rest before I put her back together. Only a "light modding" but thoroughly enjoyable thus far. I will wait until I hear it in the mix before I decide on the pickup.
17.
At that price you may not even choose to use a drill?
A hammer it is then!
18.
I've put a thumb rest on my battered Pbass between the bridge and the pickup and it works well and sounds good. My P is a fake tho (very convincing with nice pickups but a fake nontheless)which has been "aged" so I was not too reluctant to screw in a thumb rest in a new position. If it were a more valuable genuine usa or something I would be worried about de-valuing it by putting more holes in it.
It's a £115 copy! I can drill all I want !
19. I think I could do wit one t'other side too. But a bridge cover and two thumbrests is going to look stoopid.
20. Just bought a thumb rest to put on a P bass but I am planning to put it between the pickup and the bridge because that's where I rest my thumb on a two pickup bass. I figure I have the side of the neck or the pickup to use in that direction and I just need something the other side. Does anyone else use a thumb rest in this position or is it just me?
21.
im just the local music shop/rehearsal room monkey..
He used to ask me for advice you know :sniff: To be honest, knowing Mr Fudge like I do, a Rick through a valve amp would be ideal.
22.
the bass player he knows was in fact me in this situation...
I am so, so sorry. How on earth did you meet that reprobate? Some kind of group therapy session I imagine?
23.
Sorry mate .... I've moved on.
Yes. Of course you have. How silly of me. More importantly...is it the the black one your after?
24.
I didn't even consider this until I had a conversation with a bass player I know...
I'm the only bass player you know.
