1. As part of a clear out, I am selling two 2x10 200w 8ohm cabs I made about 25 years ago with Celestion ceramic drivers. I made these in college in the early 90's as I was allowed access to the wood work room. The cabs are made from 18mm mdf and the speakers are mounted on to 18mm marine ply baffle. The ceramic drivers are Celestion G10B-100 16ohm 100w drivers. All in all these are VERY HEAVY cabs. 50ibs each - when weighed together thats 20lbs more than the barefaced 8 x 10 !!!!!! I based the dimensions on the compartments / shelves in the Ampeg 8x10, and angled the back corners to mimic the iconic Ampeg fridge. The cabs have handles and wheels, although are still a bit awkward to shift around. They do, however, stack nicely both horizontally and vertically. I used these speakers for may years and only in recent times have I replaced them with Barefaced cabs. Consequently the vinyl covering is a little tatty, but no big rips or gouges. A lot of bang for your buck! I live in Ashford Kent, and you are welcome to come to try the cabs, and as they are so heavy, pick up only I'm afraid. Here are the pics: Thanks for looking
  2. Sold Ashdowm Little Bastard 30w valve amp. The amp is in very good condition and comes with a roqsolid cover. This little beauty gives fabulous warm tones, ideal for recording or smaller gigs. 3.
I'm good thanks - that is a lovely bass and I'm extremely tempted - you're not selling the Tele are you?
1977 - 78 Fender Telecaster Bass
  4. FOR SALE OR TRADE FOR A BAREFACED GENERATION 3 SUPER MIDGET Hello As part of a major clear out, here we have my:- 1977-78 Fullerton Fender Telecaster with added double Jazz pickup S701203 USA Fender Telecaster refinished (I think) in red with 3 bolt neck and maple fingerboard. Weight is 10lbs. As far as I am aware, red was not a fender colour for the Telecaster basses of this era, so my guess is it has been refinished at some point, although the refinish is showing some cracking with age. There are several cracks in the paint running horizontally along the body on both the front and back of the bass. Other than that, the bass is in very good condition for a bass of its age with minimal knocks or scratches. Previously a single coil jazz pickup had been added to the bass, but this was no match for the mighty neck hum bucker. i took the bass to Martin Sims for a re-fret, and whilst there I asked him to route a hole for a double jazz hum bucker wound using Formvar wire by Aaron Armstrong. The double jazz is a fantastic pickup and matches the neck pickup better than its predecessor. The controls are wired Vol / Vol / Tone, with three way mini toggle switches - Single Coil / Series / Parallel - for each pickup giving an extended versatility to this bass. I live in Ashford Kent, and you are welcome to come to try the bass. There is no hard case for this - the one in the photos is display purposes only, so pick up / meet up is preferable although courier is possible at buyers expense. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more, or before I change my mind and run off to join a dub reggae band. Here are the pics:- Thanks for looking
  5. Hi Ash, yes this is your old one with the great neck (your words?) I also bought the neck pickup from you too It weighs in at 9lbs Good to hear from you ash - I'm in the middle of selling a load of stuff so will be tinkering on the basschat website all day.... How are you dude? J
  6. Squier JV Precision Hello I'm having a major clear out and here is my first offering: JV Squier P Bass - Modified with two split pickups JV13267 Japanese Fender Precision in 3 colour sunburst with Rosewood fingerboard. The bass has been altered during its life, mainly the addition of another split pickup in the bridge position. The routing for the pickup is not pretty and the chrome cover is needed to hide the butchery. The controls are stacked cts pots - vol and tone for each pickup (similar to '62 jazz). The neck pickup is a JV and the rear was wound for me by Aaron Armstrong with a slightly higher output to match the neck pickup and offer a wider tonal palette. The body appears to be sens ash due to the highly figured, dense grain (input welcomed) and the neck is the best fender neck I've played (hmmm... Should I be selling this??) A collectors piece this is not, but if you want the JV quality, feel and sound for the price of an MIJ or Mex and can live with the mods, then this could be for you. The condition is overall good, with a few knocks and scratches, but nothing big, or that goes through to the wood. I live in Ashford Kent, and you are welcome to come to try the bass. [s]There is no hard case for this[/s] [EDIT: Sturdy but tatty case found - courier no problem] the one in the photos is display purposes only, so pick up / meet up is preferable although courier is possible at buyers expense. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more. 7.
Wow that was fast, thanks. Did you find that on a website or use your own software?
You are welcome Rumble. I scored this using Logic and Joebass is correct that the last note should be A# / tunings etc..
  8. Is it a bouncy castle drum machine - with a velcro pocket?
  9.
Be interested to hear how this pans out - looks very interesting!
+1 - looks the ticket
  10.
...there isn't really a lip on my cabinet.
Yes, you will need a lip on your cabinet, or a gap of about 5 mm between the grill / cloth and the cabinet edge to wiggle in one of the docks 'jaws' What cab is it you have?
  11. Hope it works out for you... Just thinking, do you think this will work with your cab? Just that IMO its nice to bring the thing you will attach it to along to the gig (i.e. your cab) as sometimes there just isn't a suitably stable protrudence handy. After my cab, I have had success with the bass drum, drummer willing.
  12.
Ideally I'd use a Markbass keeper strap, but the handle on my cab is in line with the neck joint on my bass so can't use one.
This works for me - Planet Waves Guitar Dock I do worry that I'm entrusting the safety of my bass to a piece of plastic, but I'm careful and no accidents yet. I have a BF 2 x 12 so its an easy attachment to the ports on the front, and unlike the MB keeper strap, I think this can be attached to lots more things. As well as my cab, I have attached it to tables, speaker stands, bass drum etc etc...
  13. Heads up!! - I have just been refunded! [s]No explanation as yet,[/s] and I think I got in early with my purchase. - Hay Ho etc... 14. For when I've had to do it, my number one piece of go to kit is my iPad and music stand for quick reference to charts (mainly for jazz but also other styles). The nights can vary considerably, but quite possibly (in my case) you might find more singers, and also some regular vocalists, so hopefully its possible to find out what they might want to sing a few days before the gig and come prepared. Good luck, it can be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet local musicians you might not know. You might even just play the first couple of numbers and enjoy free booze for the rest of the evening whilst getting paid. Easy work
  15. Hello Bassists, I'm looking for a bassist to cover a gig at The Old Neptune in Whitstable on the 5th December. Its a great little venue, but be prepared to be a bit squashed, as its quite wee, and there are 7 in the band (3 brass, keys, gtr, drums, you). Fee is £50 or share of total, whatever is the greater (expect £50 - sorry!) The set is general ska covers plus a handful of original tunes, although nothing too tasking. I've scored all the bass parts, so you can just turn up and read, alternatively, rehearsal recordings are available... More work possible if you want it in 2016. Thanks for looking (just like eBay ) - Please get in touch if you have any questions. Justin ** Sorted quickly - thanks **
  16.
Sorry if this has been addressed earlier but can someone tell me how's the porting (if any) on this cab?
It has a hole on the bottom
  17.
What's the tone like with these?
I haven't tried the EA wizzy, I've only A/B the cabs with a Barefaced S12, and in comparison I found them to be creamier/smoother. I didn't think they were as direct as the s12, by that I mean faithfully reproducing what the amp was putting out, but they subtly coloured the sound in a way I liked. Warm, smooth and creamy. There were no noticeable peaks in the mids, and the bottom end sounded full. IMO - I can't disagree with what the Barefaced website says about the sound - "Tone - Big, warm and fat. Don't let the size deceive you. Sweet treble and smooth mids. Push it hard and it gets growly and thick." With regards to portability, I use public transport when ever possible and can take one cab and the TH500 in a cajon bag, with bass on my back, or I use a trolley for both cabs and amp (whichever I'm using). The easiest / most portable and capable set up I've had.
  18.
Nice!
Thanks Merton. I have only used this setup (LB30) on one rehearsal (7 piece ska band - no pa support) and it sounded fabulous. I've giggled the cabs with a TH500 (with the same band) and was very happy with the cabs' tone and that I didn't run into headroom issues - which I think I would have done using the LB30 without PA support, but the bands backline is too loud - period. These cabs are very capable and think they'll do great on variety of different band setups / music styles etc. Happy Days.
  19.
Thinking about two of these already to use with my LB30.
20.
Beautiful. Is the owner of that limb happy?
Yes, she is very pleased (thankfully)
  21. Hello, and thanks for all your inputs bassers... it all helps. I like the look of the 2/4 version, and also I went on youtube to see how the early 1939 recorded version sounds and its in E with something like this melody:- I hadn't heard that melody before - I think I'll stick with something near the opening post.
