4. Hello I'm having a clear out: Warwick Corvette $$ Lined Fretless Made in Germany - [s]£575 £549[/s] £519 + postage - offers and trades considered Serial Number D-114502-05 This is Great little lined fretless bass. The neck is wonderfully thin, nimble and very playable up to the highest notes. Set up with a low fast action. The $$ hum-bucking pickups offer wide tonal variety from Warwick's Active MEC II electronics and single coil / series / parallel three way toggle switches. It came to me with some marks on the front which I have pictured below, and it has the just-a-nut- two who's cradle has been relieved of both its feeble little prongs before the bass came into my possession. Otherwise the bass is great. Case not included - just made it easier to photograph. Serial Number Marks in front ot the neck pick up before the end of the neck. Just below to G string, and there is another just above between the G an D string. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, or come and have a go. Location is Ashford in Kent. Thanks for looking. dustandbarley

I usually play Fenders, so this Streamer rarely gets an outing and has mostly spent its time in its case.. The only fault is that this has the just-a-nut 2 and the newer models have the later just-a-nut 3. In my opinion, Warwick goofed a little with the design of the just-a-nut 2 by using a plastic cradle to keep the nut in position when all the strings are removed. The little plastic prongs on the cradle's break. I broke the 2 prongs on my (now sold) Thumb 5 when changing strings, so I already knew about their fragile nature and I still managed to break one of the prongs off this cradle as I was wiping the bass down with a soft cloth. The craddles only function is to hold the nut in place when there are no strings on the bass. As soon as a string is on, the string tension holds the nut into its location points. - Please feel free to comment if you have experience of the adult-a-nut 2 and its feeble prongs, as I don't think I what I've written makes much sense. Anyhoo This is the only thing to note about the bass, otherwise it is completely awesome. 9. Hello Having a clear out : MIJ 57Ri Precision 1995 50th Anniversary Serial Number U023246 - £450 + postage No trades thanks PB57-DGF Japanese Fender Precision. Creamy white with maple fingerboard (of course) Great thumping Precision sound - currently strung with flats. This bass originally had a black scratch plate, but has been swapped for a Gold anodised look replacement from WD. The pickgurad is a USA Precision shape, so 1 of the holes didn't line up so a new one has been made, and just by the Jack socket, if you look hard enough, there is a shadow form the control cavity. The original scratch plate is being used, but if you prefer a black one, I'm happy to swap it back, although I'll have to keep the gold one. Other additions are the ashtray and pickup cover, and ebony thumb rest from Guy Lewis to complete the '57 look. There is a bit of play wear on the top corner of the body and a chip near the neck pocket. Weights in at 9lbs. Here are the pics : 50th Anniversary Badge Serial Number Playing wear Shadow by Jack Socket Paint Chip Heel of Neck Thanks for having a look, please ask any questions.
Ha Ha - Some kind of hard wood? I'm guessing at Ash..... Hopefully someone will be along shortly to put me straight (oo'er)
I had this same serial number issue on a jazz I've just bought.
Thanks for your input into the Serial Numbers - Terrific. So am I correct in saying this is 1989? What year was yours - if you don't mind me asking?
When you say '1898' in the original post do you mean 1989, or is the year unknown due to the serial number oddity?
Duh! 11. USA Fender Jazz 1989 Serial Number E92136 - £525 + postage No trades thanks Refinished Body - Shiny like new with white pick guard. Super slim profile neck with rosewood board extra frets, and micro-tilt system. TBX Tone circuit. Modern tuners as standard. The bass is in great condition. =========================== OK - I have a lot to say about this bass. At times Fender have deviated from their tried and tested basses with varying levels of success. This model is one of these examples and it had some great differences, and some not so. For a few years in the late 80's / early 90's this 'Longhorn' or 'Boner' bass was the standard Jazz bass Fender made. It had a couple of extra frets and a different body shape with a biigger cutaway to accommodate the extra frets and a longer top horn which gave a more comfortable balance when wearing the bass. Here is my experience of the differences TBX Circuit This model jazz has slightly different electronics Fender called their TBX circuit. This is a twin stacked tone pot that effected the tone slightly differently that the standard Jazz tone pot. Please have a google about this circuit. There is some conflicting info out there, but here is my experience. The original volume pots were 250k and if they were flat out, the TBX circuit worked fine, however with the pots not all the way up, the TBX circuit would also effect the volume - which wasn't great. I was advised to swap out the 250k volume pots for 500k's and disco - way better. When rolling the tone off, if feels to me that a little of the treble is allowed to leech through giving a slightly 'scouped' sound as apposed to the normal expected cut in treble. The difference is only subtle, but IMO the circuit sounds great with the 500k pots. The Xtra Frets The extra frets are a helpful addition should you feel inclined to use them. The neck is noticeably thinner than the USA standard basses made now. It feels light and agile and is a dream to play. What is lost in girth is gained in length - you decide. Body Shape The extra long top horn makes this bass a dream to play. It is the most well balanced Fender I've played. Its very comfortable to wear, and balances great when playing sitting down. The extra leverage the longer top horn gives really makes a difference and when I have to play for a extended periods, the better balance helps my left arm from getting tired having to compensate for any neck heavy bias. (does that make sense? - basically it is less neck heavy by design than other jazzes) The Bridge Fender goofed a bit here IMO. For the boners they increased the string spacing to about 21mm? Which is ok, but they left the neck the same width at the heal. This meant the strings were too close to the fretboard edge for comfort and a few bum notes as it was all to easy for the strings to slip off the edge of the fretboard when fretting on the G or E string. I have replaced the original bridge with a Gotoh hi mass number. Have a look at the difference in the pic below. I will include the original bridge in the sale, but its only good use would be as a paper weight, or maybe to sell on to MDP for a 5 to 4 string bass conversion for people who have fingers thicker than your average frankfurter. The foot print of the old bridge left some visible marks on the body either side of the new hi mass item, so I ended up having the body refinished. Enough already - have a look Serial Number - I don't think the serial numbers of Boner's appear on some of the Fender Serial Number look-up sites Modern Tuners came as standard New High Mass Bridge Check the girth - calling MDF Micro Tilt adjustment TBX circuit with 500k vol pots Measuring from the tip of the button (YES IT COUNTS!!!) the boner's horn weighs in mightily at a tad under 7 inches Oh! Monsieur JV Jazz - you only have a 5 inch horn The Boner's apt name gives rise to plenty of opportune double entendre. Please feel free to amuse in the box below, equally ask any questions.
 12. Hello Having a clear out : USA Fender Jazz 2001 Serial Number Z103 8233 - £550 + postage No trades thanks Great sounding USA Jazz with maple finger board. The body is a lively translucent orange with a white pick guard. The bass is in good condition overall with a few marks on the headstock, and the body is in great shape but has a little crack in the lacquer by the top strap button. The Bass weights [s]9 and a half [/s] [sorry] a heftier 11pounds. (not the best scales) At some point the pots have all been changed and some of the dot inlays on the neck[s]have been changed to a slightly unusual design[/s] look funny - see comments below. Here's the pics Marks on the headstock Here are the unusual fret dots - [s]only these three are different, the rest are black as standard[/s] the lacquer has separated from part of the dot - see comments below. Here is the crack in the lacquer. This doesn't go through to the wood. Here's the slide show

 14. Hello, Time for a bit of a clear out as follows : JV Squier Jazz Serial 44493 - £650 This is a great example of the legendary JV range from Japan. Wonderful sound and playability. As you can see the bass is white with a lovely vintage torty pick guard. The white is now looking nice and creamy - difficult to capture on an iphone camera - sorry! The bass is all original, but the volume pot for the neck pickup is a bit crackly. I have made do with pot cleaner, but it could probably do with being replaced. I am happy to do this if you wish. Has the odd mark as shown in the pictures, but is in good condition considering its age etc. The bass weighs 8 and a half pounds on dodgy scales - I have compared the weight to a 2001 USA jazz which comes in a 9 and a half pounds on the same scales. Here's the candy Reverse Tuners Serial Number Spiral Saddles Back The Ugly Slide Show ========================================================== I've run out of time. I'll fix the links, upload the photo's and finish the descriptions tomorrow. Sorry I didn't get this finished, and I'm unsure how to save it, so up it goes half cocked. Now - where do I pay???? J xx

Whats happening with the back to back bass / guitar combos in his other items?
 17. Bought (another) bass from Ash - smooth as silk. All 5 stars
 18. I came across this from a link on TB.com - Didn't know these even existed ...... I WANT http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/msg/3587870839.html
 19. Its in this Ebay weird and wonderful section - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/194312-squier-fretless-jazz-looks-like-a-jv/ In the JV fretless auction the seller stated something along the lines of 'selling off her late fathers instruments'.....
 20. This seller also sold this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321041925815 which appeared in a thread in this forum... So this could well be a probate case as mentioned in the above, albeit a somewhat unorthodox ebay auction?
