This is NOT a "what's the best bass for metal" question!
AttitudeCastle replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Rob Trujillo from Metallica used P basses and String rays for a good while before his warwicks! -
Oh no, bloke sitting in his bedroom tapping on a singlecut, this isn't good for the stereotype! All the same, that Thumb singlecut...yuck. I can't believe it took two people to make that!
Hahahahaha And i do agree :s

Blame that guy if you don't like the Warwick thumb SC, he designed it with his friend Pretty good tone though, (even though i sense many won't care for what he plays haha) Everytime i see that ACG it looks nicer and nicer, whats the top/face wood?
-
The Warwick Thumb SC was actually designed by a contest winner (a thumb SC design contest) haha, i really don't like it though. I think single cuts are like all other bass shapes, you like it or you don't (imho) I like some single cuts and really don't like others, pretty love hate, like most of the ACGs i think look stunning, and Doods Doodle! As with everything it's subjective, and about the "need to defend" thing, somethings more people are openly judgemental about (for example ERBs, many more people would 'judge' them than someone who plays a jazz bass) so the best thing is just to live with it so every bass player can sleep at night, or (more than currently) we'd be maniacs
I don't see any problem with price considering those EMGs are cheaper HZ passive ones, top is just a thin veneer and who knows what active circuit is inside. Cheap hardware is another reason for low price. This is just a good looker for the money, nothing special...
+1
Darcy Wretzky from Smashing Pumkins! What do I win?
+1! Or Jenny Lee Lindberg from Warpaint really good bass playing there!
I don't think I agree re Jordan, I actually think the lines he puts down are usually perfect for the song, although they can stray into ridiculous at times I still feel they fit. Albums like octavarium are pretty much made what they are by him and him compliments black clouds well without going mad. Systematic chaos was a bit mad but its in the name. The guys got a Huge space he has to fill between myung and petrucci and I think he does the part justice. I also don't really see his ego, I think maybe he's a little bit mad but mostly getting into it and having a good time. Finally re mangini the guy played incredibly during his audition and it obviously meant a lot to him, seemed dream theater took it equally as serious so hopefully he's more than a fill in. He doesn't really play the same as portnoy anyway. Count me interested for the next album, anyone have any dates for release yet?
13th September (MY BIRTHDAY ) haha, Though as i said, we won't see a huge amount from Mangini (IMHO) as he hasn't written any of the drum parts, as they were written by Petrucci
Think theres 5 of us now
Just need rich and i think thats all of us
-
Mike Mangini is in just to fill in it feels like to me, i mean John Petrucci wrote all the drum parts, and In the auditions he seemed the only one who played exactly like Portnoy did... and whats wrong with that Myung clip minus where he says "There is a bass solo in a song called metropolis where i do a bass solo" though being a nervous speaker i know where he is coming from i've said worse
what i pretty much want to do is in some parts of a song have the bass alot more punchy than others if that helps? anyone got one of these pedals recomend they want to part with? inbox me
EQ pedal? Kick in more mids or what not for a certain lick/riff/technique etc?
-
Good to see another bassist from the mighty Aberdeen
-
It doesn't boost bass, like the steel leather mostly boosts the highs and the high mids. The "attack" is mostly in the top end like pick attack style the Hartke Bass Attack pedal sounds like whats you'd want though!

If your drummer can't play to a click track due to timing i'd be worried if i were you...

Amps & Cabs & Double Bass & EUB for sale forums the wrong way round
AttitudeCastle replied to Delberthot's topic in Site News
It kind of bothers me, but its hardly a huge issue would be nice to see it moves, as a change in daily routine is good for the brain -
Are going to have to get a new profile with a different user name? Is it neck through? Either way great buy, and the price is a bonus! I'm gassing for a TRB1006J / TRB 6II ! Though am on a bass buying ban and i need a new amp and i'm skint, but just looking won't hurt...
If you don't mind it being quite physically heavy, try http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/es...yor-415-nat.asp or any of the other 2010 LTD Surveyors that they're clearing cheap at present. As a local and a customer I can vouch for them being a decent shop. On a personal note, I have to say I'm surprised by the love for Ibanez BTBs - I bought a matching pair a few years ago (a 5 and a 6) and found them to be fairly rough-and-ready for the money. All the hardware started to tarnish quite badly after a couple of months, and the stock pickups/EQ were quite lacklustre. Have they improved the range substantially since I got rid?
Yes! I love my BTB676 though the neck isn't perfect (a few sanding issues over looked same on the back of the body, though its minute) and its sounds awesome to my ears! Ibanez SR may be worth a look, or the Yamahas! (Love both companies!) do you have any preference to what type of stuff you like? -
-
*Theater! And Octavarium and Awake are awesome albums. Released on my birthday too
-
Tell me if you find anything about the bridge, as the same thing happened to me on my BTB!
-
Maybe some Chic? A few great basslines there! Funky, soul, and you can show off yoru talent too!
-
Never force speed, it comes naturally and will be there when you need that little bit more if you play scales etc at various tempos! ChTBoner, try playing semi quavers at 440 on trombone! I feel too many people "jump" to three fingers, but thats my personal opinion! I can play Semi quavers at 185 Bpm (Not for a huge about of time though!) or 200 something with 3 fingers (not much over 220 on a good day with a solid warm up) but getting the 3 fingers up to that fludidity took some time just practise and have a solid foundation for your technique and it will all come to you!
It'd be a GK clinic for a local shop that I helped sort a GK dealership for, so would have to include the amps I guess, though I'd still be doing something fairly general. It's not 100% yet so if I were to get a looper I'd have time to learn it and I've spent a lot of time using soft loopers, it'd be a case of learning what the buttons do rather than how to use loops. I'm not so much thinking of a workshop style one, so it'd more be showing what the amps are capable of than teaching. I'm not even sure who I'd be playing to, it'd be in the shop so there's no garuanteeing it'd even be bassists so it'd need to be something interesting to anyone. I'll look up Wooten and Sheehand's clinics though and see if I can get any kind of direction from them. Thanks.
I think a looper would be good! (a really simple one, stomp to add a loop) as you could change the settings between each loop to show how versatile the amp is! (i'd enjoy that!)
