Thanks for the replies people! I got a few helpful guys in the area with some ideas as well, and they were happy to borrow me their modded RAT, Marshall Guv'nor (also modded), Fuzzface (germanium) and Fulltone Mosfet Bass Drive. I'll be testing these. Very exciting.

Apart from the everlasting GAS for this, to match my '66 Jazz in the same colour: And the best fretless bass I've ever played: I'm currently heavily GASsing for a good and dirty tube amp. A Bassman, preferably.

I got it a few days ago, and really liking it so far. Paul sounds excellent, the only thing maybe is that the style is a bit undefinable. There's Jamiroquai-esque disco, a very cool 6/8 soul song, Brazilian, soulpop and a dance-ish tune with a lot of synth bass sounds on it. But it has some really nice bass lines on it and the guest musicians are great. I especially like Battlefield and Can You Feel What's Going On.
