2. Would like to trade rather than sell Am seeking a Black Ric or a US precision deluxe, or a Gibson 4 string LP bass Tx
3. Hi Matt - fairly interested but I am in South Essex - around 150 miles away, though I do go into London every day so logistically it is a challenge to see it in the flesh.... What is the story it has to tell, btw and did u retain the bridge cover?
4. I have a black Aerodyne Jazz bass a possibilty? I prefer P necks as opposed to J necks so I am considering moving it on Superb condition - pics available Serial # S049899 which makes it 1994/5
5. [sub]@Matty K - looks quite 'well used' which isn't a bad thing![/sub] [sub]What is the serial # and w[/sub][sub]here are you located[/sub]
6. [sub]Hi guys - sorry been away - [/sub] [sub] [/sub] [sub]@loweringthetonethe weight? Not sure - around 4 . 5 kg. Ver comfortable to play as well[/sub] [sub] [/sub] [sub]@Matty K - maybe interested - do us have pix & details?[/sub]
7. Thanks for the bump - I would say this guitar is more a work of art than just a bass!
8. Reluctant sale, but I just don't play it enough to warrant it gathering dust in the 'music room'.... A really beautiful, eye catching 1996 Gibson les paul special 5 string bass - sunburst, ebony fretboard, mother of pearl trapezoid fret inlay and detail, active barts in 9.5/10 condition with original hardshell case (still with plastic blocker on the catch). This is a rarity, as I am certain you know - especially in this condition - Serial # 90866715 Nashville Plant, TN, USA March 27th, 1996 Production Number: 415 New strings and in excellent condition. One tiny ding at bottom of the lower horn (?) OIRO £1100 Would consider px for USA deluxe precision bass - 4 bloody strings!!
9.
I have thought about that but I've got quite small hands so the 6 string might just push me over the edge of where I'm comfortable, as it is I'll probably be looking for a 5 string with a narrower neck.
Gibson Les Paul 5 string bass has a pretty narrow neck for a 5 string... which is why I am struggling with it! Anyone interested in one of these - 1994 vintage sunburst. Beautiful looking active bartolini pups etc?
10. Hi Welcome to the forum - I am a self confessed Budgie nut and have been watching since 1974. Met Burke a few times and thanked him personally for teaching me bass - He was a bit confused by this till I stated that I learnt from all the albums. I progressed to Geddy lee, John wetton and Chris Squire later.. I am now in a covers band and try to slip Budgie stuff in wherever I can. Stuff like their versions of Nutbush and Baby Please Don't Go... also Breadfan of course I can get away with - wish I could do more Budgie stuff but they are a bit obscure nowadays.... I am also on Bandolier! You must know Sacko, I take it? He pulled together some handy tabs I recall that Simon Lees and Burke did not gel too well.... according to a guitaring mutual acquaintance of mine....... You need a battered P Bass though - A Rickie aint right. Trace Elliot is okay though! Hope Burke recovers soon from his heart related problems.. P
11. Bought a MIM Sunburst P Bass. No problems at all, excellent communication and packaged very well indeed... The bass was actually far better than I had expected so I am well pleased - many thanks! P
12.
Is he open to trades?
Are these now sold?
13.
Cheers for the info.
I have had a natural wood P Bass with a Jazz neck since around 1980 - I bought it second hand in Wapping Bass Centre all those years ago. I know nothing of it's provenance and I am certain it is not a real Fender, but a handbuilt guitar. I have to say that of all the basses i have owned, this has been the greatest servant; the action, the set up and the power is brilliant. I must do some pix and post them on here. It must date from the seventies.. though i gave it a real overhaul last year with new bridge nut / scratchplate etc and its in great nick I mention this, as I am going to sell it on for a mere £300 o.n.o. as I am getting on a bit and it is too heavy for my weak shoulders. I invested in an Aerodyne instead and now I can jump around a bit again.. P
14. And such a low offer accepted! Pity I missed out on this beauty..
15.
No, it is a Korean Epiphone, made by Un-Sung Musical Instrument Co. in their Incheon facility in April 2004, production number 3658, fact fans
Thanks for the response - any idea of the woods used and what are the tuners and how heavy is it? I am sorely tempted....
16. Is this a Chinese epi excluding the mods of course, which are very nice!! I am using a '91 gibson LP 5 string active bass and am considering a 4 string version too
17. I very recently made the partial transition to a 5 string after playing for decades and also a middle period where I was a lead guitarist. It is an undoubted challenge as sometimes I am wont to daydream on the more mundane tunes that we do... I use my 4 string Aerodyne for gigging, but I am now going to make a gradual transition on some songs we do with my Gibson LP 5. It is going to be a bit of a gamble as I often find my mind wandering and using B instead of E, so full concentration is going to be required, but i think it will be worth it as opposed to using sub octavers etc, which are too processed - even the Ashdown.. And it is a too beautiful a guitar not to use.. However, the big plus for me was that when switching back to 4 strings mid gig, i have an amazing feeling of liberation and can really let fly, as i don't have to think about it over much and that also frees me up to do more vocals?! - then again maybe that's a bad thing......
18. I actively gig with a beautiful black aerodyne which I got cheap via eBay (£400 inc shipping and hard case + strap) - I got lucky Positives Nice light weight, excellent neck, beautiful to look at (see negatives), very flexible soundwise ranging from a cutting J to a heavy P bass. These are stock pups. Negatives Hated the bridge so I swapped it to a more blocky chrome / locking saddles - much better than the 'classic' bent metal version J-pickup buzzes a bit on full treble and is a bit weak - recommend replacement, but not crucial to do so. Once again, so beautiful to look at that you'll be scared to let yourself go.. My bass was also a bit out of line and needed to be radically adjusted. Nut is cheap... Despite the negatives, most of which I have now addressed, this is the best bass i have for playability and is my gigging weapon of choice
19.
A recent F/S thread has has reignited my GAS for one of these beasts. Anyone have experience of them within a fairly 'heavy' psych/rock band set up? I guess my main question is how 'vintage' do they sound? I love me Sandberg as my main gigging bass and I can get a good P sound out of it which works live (perhaps less so in the studio), but obviously it doesn't have that late 60s vibe that I'm thinking about. So, I'm hankering after something that gets me that late 60s birth-of-rock edge. Anyone with experience of the Decade think it will cut it? Or indeed any other recommendations? Remembering of course that don't have the funds for a late 60s J or P! Thanks everyone Ian
There's one here. looks interesting......... 20. Hi ASHDOWN MAG 300 C210T BASS AMP 2X10 300W COMBI EVO II status, the amplifier also includes a built-in compressor with precision sonic control. I have owned this bass amp new since September 2009 and used it for just 3 gigs - its last outing was for a Help For Heroes benefit gig and I plan to donate 30% the proceeds of this sale to this worthy cause... Gigs were all done with me doing my own load-in and load-out and I don't throw my amps around! It is an excellent and loud bass amp with great frequency response and tonal definition - ideally suited to rock and funk playing, equally suited to someone in a function band. With 300 watts at your disposal, you are unlikely to ever need anything louder than this for stage monitoring and it will easily fill a 250+ capacity venue.. It is carpet covered and in excellent condition This amp is EVO II status, and includes a built-in compressor with precision sonic control. I am selling as i have migrated to Ashdown ABM gear now! Amp is still with box / packaging Pix available on request Asking Price is £260.00 OVNO I am located in Grays, Essex and would prefer collection At a push I can deliver as far east as Southend, South to Kent / Surrey, West to Graeter London - (East / South / North) if u pick up the diesel mileage! Tx P
21. Hi I recently became the proud owner of a '96 Gibson LP 5 string bass with Bartolini pups However, I do need to change out the strings as they have been on the guitar for a while and i need a more punchy cutting tone than that which I have now! Not sure what the strings are at present, but they are pretty dead... I play in a Rock Covers band and a Prog rock Band so my style will need to replicate the likes of Chis Squire or Geddy Lee on one extreme and Andy Fraser or the Aerosmith bloke on the other! I have been looking at the following: D'ADDARIO EXL220-5 D'Addario EPS170-5 Ernie Ball 2836 Regular Slinky 5-Str ERNIE BALL SUPER SLINKY ERNIE BALL POWER SLINKY Rotosound RB40-5 Roundwound ROTOSOUND 5 STRING 665LD ROUNDWOUND Olympia strings Castle Strings PATRICK BRAND - 5 String Electric Any ideas from you experts out there?? Many tx! P
