1. Ha Ha, I was gigging last night and we played You been gone too long and turning my heartbeat up -which is out set closer. Happy Jack, its a mostly live recording with overdubs - just done by ourselves and a mac and firewire. Lojo, what do you want to know, we're an 8 piece out of Paisley, all bar one are old Mods and scooterists so we know our northern onions! Mick hucknalls song is a disgrace and I reckon he's ripped off Double cookin' on the piano line.
2. I Play in a Northern Soul Covers Band. Favorite basslines? For playing my favourites would be Just can't Get enough of you by The Apollas, If Thats What You Wanted by Frank Bellamy and the Butlers. Trickiest is Music to my Heart by Patti Austin (im not that keen on funky stuff), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7J1TQejOOg heres a classic done by us, a few years ago now - we're getting some new stuff done.
3. Sorry, I just Realised I never answered the Question VtypeV4, I just took one of those out my WEM last week in favour of a new Jensen. The G15M was old and done, I get an extra couple of notches on the volume before it starts breaking up now! The idea was to make the WEM more useable for smaller pub gigs etc.
4. I've got a new celestion that I was going to put in the cab, but I'm so far impressed with the Jensen that Flynn put in my WEM. I think what I'll do is what Flynn suggested, they do a wee modification in the WEM that disconnects the speaker from the amp and allows an external amp to power it. It means that I can bypass the amp if it pops during use and still run the speaker. It also means that I can see how the Jensen sounds with the Selmer before I fork out for it.
5. Thanks very much gents, it's nice to know the old Selmer still has a place in peoples hearts. For the record it sounds great, nice rounded tone with plenty of power. It was in Flynn Amps in Glasgow who are a top outfit - please look them up, they rate both my valve amps. Stevie Flynn said that the Selmer is an often overlooked gem, and that Selmer were doing dual rectification 30 years before Mesa - whatever that means, I nodded and said "really" - He put a Jensen speaker in my Wem Dominator as the old g15m was pretty well done. He reckoned the WEM 18w amp is a piece of work too, almost identical to a contemporary Marshall.

7. Just for arguments sake I did this to my eastwood classic 4 today. before after. I also decalled the pickguard and fitted G arrow knobs. Just for my own pleasure I like fiddling with stuff (see my Selmer amp in the amps sections) All easily reversible and cost about £35 for the bits and bobs.
8. Thats it done and working! I just need to get on and get the speaker cab done now - expect further news in couple of months! before after front after rear
9. it is two El34s and 4 ECC83s, I cant get a shot just now as Its in at Flynn amps in Glasgow getting a kettle socket fitted - rather than having the lead trailing out the back - and the standby switch wired up properly. I cant wait to get it back so I can get it back in the case. Finished pictures as soon as i have them!
10. Hi There, Just thought I'd share my resto work on an old selmer T&B that I got for £85. As it came, in full working order and a brand new set of JJ valves. I got it from an old guy who fixed amps and no one had claimed it for over a year. He gave me it for the cost of the new parts! My mate is a metalworker who made me a new front panel and rear grille. I got a local signwriter called TAG signs to make me new decals - to my own size request. Decals on New Knobs and Switches The rear grille with some fancy metalwork. Cocoa Tolex with black edges and new handle. My Dad is building me a new cabinet for a single 15 celestion - its nearly ready! I'm finishing it with the same tolex and corners with a vintage looking front panel in Marshall light tan basketweave. Pics for that soon!

12. I just got a Roqsolid amp cover for my old valve WEM Dominator, and I'd just like to say how happy and impressed I am with the product and service. The cover is flawless and very smart, delivered well within the 10 day estimate. In fact it was 2 working days. I hope this glowing report goes some way to remedy the 3 out of 5 rating I gave them on the shopping experience survey because their website is a bit clunky. But then again what kind of website asks you rate your shopping experience before you get the item, and then reports it as a testimonial! Honestly though its a super product, and as soon as get some spare cash im gonna invest in one for my line6 LD300.
13. Exactly the same thing happened to me with a band I had been in for 5 years. Shown the door for appearance rather than ability. It cost me a close friendship, well at least I thought he was my friend - but he was swayed by the chance of making it. I'm not talking about a small label either - this was the big boys! Anyways, my brother showd integrity and walked with me. Resultantly the others couldn't replace us without seriously altering the sound and dynamic (just the bass player eh...) and are mostly sitting on their thumbs these days. I got myself out, formed another band that is still going strong after 6 years - new LP coming soon. I also play in a soul covers band which is nice. I'm sure you'll be fine and your old band will no doubt get royally screwed somewhere along the line. Learn from the experience, and move on!
14. Now I can see your pic better on the PC rather than the phone, your neck rout is way deeper than mine! I'm going to give it to a luthier and see if it can be done. But I'll start looking at plan B! Thanks
15. I was given the bare guitar, no hardware aside the strap buttons and the cmi trc. I had a bridge pickup with a really ratty surround. To balance cost vs appearance I decided to get a chrome look perspex bridge plate from pickguardian andt their extended pickguard- goes right back to the bridge plate. This is coming uncut in the neck pickup position. I got the artec sidewinder pickup, new and unfitted from a mate who didn't finish a build of his own. so that's how its going to go. The neck rout will not take the pickup, its very chunky. It does fit in the electrical cavity without protruding over edge. I'm just not sure about routing the neck itself as deep as that!
16. Hi folks, just to see if anyone here has attempted, or heard tale of, fitting the EB-0 sidewinder ( or mudbucker as I've seen it called ) in the neck position of a 4001 bass. This one is a 70's CMI copy. Just to see if there were any problems inherent. It will have a genuine ric bridge pickup, all new mono electrics, and some fancy plastics from pickguardian. It just seems that an awful lot of wood will have to come out the cavity to get the big pickup in! Anyone done it?
17. planet waves pedal - excellent on every level, you wont be dissapointed!
18. never heard of Billups, so I searched him - he's using those too!!
19.
Anyone here use a thumb pick? I can't grip a regular pick due to cramping (focal dystonia sort of thing). I've read about Andy Billups from the Hamsters but can't find any pics of his modified thumb pick.
I've used thumbpicks all my playing life. Dunlop M is my preference. Dead easy to play with!!
20. I got one of the those, It's just fine with the standard bridge - in fact it's wonderful!
21. Aye, heres a pic I took from my facebook, i hope its big enough to see!
22. Eastwood Classic 4 I bought it 2nd hand for £300, I had bad GAS for one (whatever that actually means). I had seen some good reviews and a couple of vids on youtube and as a big semi acoustic fan I reckoned that this was to be the next purchase. It is a seriously good looking instrument. The previous owner "never got on with it". It's the MK111 version - no I didn't know either - the first had a floating bridge like my old Hofner Verithin, the second has the same bridge but fixed, the third has a metal fixed bridge and a slight neck taper towards the headstock and wider spacing at the bridge. All of Eastwood's own promo still states a floating bridge. Points off for slackness straight away. So, is it a good 'un? As with most Chinese manufactured instruments some things can be hit or miss and this guitar is no exception. Build Quality and finish - It's spot on actually, the person who made the guitar did a fine job, there are no ragged cuts, the neck is glued and invisibly jointed, the binding is good quality and expertly fitted - even round the F-holes. The frets are above average for a cheap guitar and the fretboard inlays are well fitted and good quality. The finish is a reddy brown clear walnut base with laquer. The colouring and grain are excellent but It seems to finely scratch quite easily. Hardware - The chromework on the bridge and tailpiece are pretty good, but not top notch - all down to the price I guess. The machine heads were dung, seriously, it would not stay in tune. I changed them for a set of Grovers of the same design so they were a straight 20 minute fitting job - huge improvement at a cost of £50. Heres an important tip though, I bought the Grovers as I wanted to get a trusted brand name to solve my problem. When I went to fit them i compared them to a loose Stagg one I had in my spares tin. They were identical save the Grover name etched into the grease cap. All the other manufacturing stamps and other indicators were exactly the same. So unless the innards are manufactured to a different standard, the Stagg ones are £20 cheaper. The jack is secure as are the strap buttons. Electrics - Oh dear. I couldn't make head nor tail of the 3 knob 1 switch arrangement. I gave it to George my local guitar guy and he pulled it apart and re wired the set up into what it should have been in the first place, and put the switch the correct way up. No wonder the last owner had issues with it wired completely wrong. The pickups are good though, no crackles or interference issues. In general the guitar is comfortable to wear and play, the body may be a bit big for some. It says that its a short scale but I would say its pretty much normal scale in every sense except getting a set of flatwounds that actually fitted. I don't like wrapping the speaking length of the string around the post so that ruled out my usual Rotosound 77s. I went for a set of Rotosound rs77m's, which fitted perfectly but they were 40-90s rather than the 45-105 I was used to. Didn't like them at all!! Far to small for my big fat fingers. So I was after flatwounds, with a speaking length no longer than 35" no shorter than 32" about 45-105. After a bit of research and a few phone calls I plumped for D'Addario ECB81M XL Chrome at 34" - 45- 100. They fit well and sound great. Also, I got an Eastwood hard case for it. It says on the eastwood.co.uk site that you can only order a case when you order a guitar, and there is no option to just to buy a case online. I called them up and ordered and paid for one no problem. So all in all its good value. An attractive, well constructed guitar thats been let down by dodgy tuners and a bad wiring job - but i'm willing to concede that the wiring issue may have been a one off error. If you think it may be the one for you, then go for it. Just remember the machine head replacement in most cases, and the Chromes if you're a flats kind of guy. Bax
23. I just used Paisley Freight to shift a bass. Available on ebay for £13.99. I just searched guitar courier to see what came up. it was actually TNT that came to pick it up and it was delivered from Glasgow to Brighton by 9.30am the next day. I couldn't fault the price or service.
24. Its semi hollow with a sustain block Gust0o. its quites sturdy.
