1. Thanks Guys, they seem to be Rola Alnicos. I think I'll use them for side fills on our small PA.
2. hi folks, can anyone identify these speakers for me. They're from a 4x10 wem column. theres no manufacturers badges. ta much
3. the valves in both amps all seem to be working fine. is it a bad idea just to swap the valves over Mr Foxen?
4. Im selling an old roost combo guitar amp. Now its got two working mullard el34s in it. Do I keep these and swap them with the electro harmonix ones in my Selmer tnb before it goes. Obviously Ive not advertised the roost as having these valves in it.
5. My band The Laynes only do 2 covers in our current set, Fathers Name is Dad by Fire and Open My Eyes by The Nazz. One of Todds finer moments
6. yep, cheapest roto 77s on the net and next day delivery!
7.
I once tried to turn Cabaret into RockNRoll 'Willkommen, Bienvenue, it's been a long time since I rocked and rolled, Welcome!' The punters liked it but the drummer thought it was a 'travesty'. Left the band, got depressed and threw himself under a 125.
intercity or yamaha?
8. i fancied starting one that played jimi hendrix songs in a scottish ceilidh style. to be called the Jimmy Shandrix Experience,,,,
9. subaru legacy estate, takes everything the bands throw at it.
10. and gimme some lovin, by them too in the city by the Jam
11. Nothing special, a BL15-150. I had replaced the crappy busted blue speaker in my ashdown with a Bl15-300 a few years back, and I found it to be an excellent driver for the price. It sounded better and didn't choke on its own vomit after a couple of years!
12. That's the new rig finished at last. 8 months in the making. All my own work except for fabricating the metalwork on the amp and cutting the baffle plate for the cab. I'm very pleased with it. So I hooked it up for the first time tonight after I Soldered the new celestion into it. Got a smashing vintage tone. I've enjoyed the experience so much I've bought an empty WEM dominator case to cover with the rest of my tolex. This lot is getting gigged on Sat night. Throwing caution to the wind!!
13. I'm not sure, it might be laser. I'll need to find out
14. I got a WEM badge on a cabinet I bought. I've seem these things going for silly money on ebay, sometimes over 50 bucks. Anyway Its not going to suit what I have in mind for a refurb on the cabinet so I'm going to use it as a template for a stainless steel version. My metalworking bandmate reckons that I would be as well to get a small run made because its expensive to set up for one and he might as well use up a sheet of steel. Do you think it would be worth getting a couple of dozen run off?
15. Not sure exactly what that means Musky, but I'll go with your opinion that its good sealed - Thanks
16. Hi Mr Foxen, Its a brand new Jensen c15n 50w at 8ohms
17. Hi Folks, Having got the refinish bug while doing up an old Selmer amp and having a fair bit of tolex left, I thought about having a go with my old WEM Dominator MK1 bass amp. I managed to pick up a spare amp cabinet off ebay so I can work on it without without crippling my amp. I'm missing the rear upper amp cover but can easily fabricate a new one - BUT - I suppose I could then just completely close the back and line the interior with foam. I suppose I may have to consider some porting but thats not a big problem for me. I'm just looking for some opinion on the closed/open back idea. its the 18w 15" speaker version.
18.
Why do you choose to do that Baxter?
Can't say to be sure, its just ended up that way. I just tend to cover the note with a finger rather than let it ring, unless I want to let it sustain. I play mostly kind of 60s vibe stuff on semis with flatwounds so theres always that kind of blunt attack to the basslines. When I play with the soul band, because we have a brass section the songs are all in flat keys to suit them. Sometimes I keep a bass tuned down handy if the set includes songs like Nowhere To Run so I can actually use the low open E (rather than E flat on the A string) because that song really needs it.
19. I use open strings as little as possible - With the exception of low E
20. I've got one of these, and it is a great guitar, and quite smart too. Like the man says you can get a real 60s McCartney/Lane thump with flats on. Have a bump on me.
21.
That is amazing. Judging by the photos I (briefly) saw on the first Gumtree ad, your bass has a gap in the binding behind the bridge. Ricks have that but I have not seen as faker with that.
Yep, My Faker has the binding gap - but is single truss on a straight through neck.
22. Aye, I'm a badge whore. My Verithin, 51RI Prescision and my ibanez ASB140 are all Legit. My ibanez 4001 professes to be real thing and my eastwood is doing a passable gretsch impersonation. I just bought a epi EB-0 for a score that some fool had tried to rout a second pickup hole then changed their mind and filled it badly then covered the body and headstock in primer. The guy that does my guitar work is shaving down the headstock into a gibson shape and making a "kalamazoo bass" pickguard to hide the damage. I'll decide what colour to do it when he gets the paint off to see the colour of the wood itself - I fancy honey blonde if the wood isnt too red.
23. Heres another clip, live gig this time, Also remarkable as I'm playing my Ibanez asb140, imported by myself from the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H0OlQtL2xY
24.
Ah - you mean SOUL MUSIC a la Tamla Motown, Stax etc.......... like wot we used listen to, dance to and play in the mid 1960s.
It is, yet it isn't.........
