1. Thanks for the review! Very interesting. I wouldn't mind hearing the MicrobassII through the Alien Compact into a Barefaced Compact.
 2.
I don't know about anybody else, but I think think black american burr walnut is the most beautiful of woods...
Preach, brother, preach!
 3. I'd go for a mahogany body, walnut top, birdseye maple neck, rosewood fingerboard - but Alder/Maple/Ebony would also sound great, especially with the Nordies and P90s. How do you think an ebony 'board will sound with P90s? That's the only question I'd ask about your combination. Well, apart from the question of how much cooller it would all look with a walnut top/matching headstock...
 4. I'd recommend seeing a good osteopath. I prefer osteopathy to physiotherapy.
 5.
Strangely enough, I was learning that this morning and decided it was going to be my new showoff piece. Of course, if anyone asks me to play it I'll immediately forget how it goes
Just keep going up in semitones until you get to C - it'll all come back to you.
 6. Don't sell it! You'll miss it. Just get enough gigs to justify it to yourself.
 7.
I play an A
At first I read that as "I play in A" and I thought "ooh, brave - I'll stick to E". An A - isn't that a song by Tenacious D? "Next song!".

 9. Improvisation in E minor, ie. silly noodling.
 10. Cancel the gig - explain to them that your drummer is a c*** and he's now your ex-drummer. Ask to reschedule for a date in two months' time.
 11.
If he doesn't have much foundation in harmony yet I'd advise him to leave the Levine book for a bit.
I disagree with that. If he's new to harmony, he should just stick to the first few chapters.
 12.
All you r gonna get is loads of posts of people recommending what they use. [...] Without having any clue of your requirements other than watts and price I am not going to recommend anything.

Depends entirely on what sort of sound you are looking for.
Agreed.
 13.
Anyone done it? Anyone have any input or ideas?
Check out information about the tenor guitar, a 4-stringed member of the guitar family tuned in 5ths. The scale length is usually a lot shorter than bass guitar though: around 23"-ish.
 14. Stop posting pictures of your singer. Everytime you post in a thread I forget what I was going to write when I see the pic of your singer in your signature. (Cool photos btw).
 15.
Mark Levine's 'The Jazz Theory Book'. It's all in there. 16. I've seen (and heard) people gig with the Line 6 combo. It's a pretty nifty little amp. For out and out practice amps, I like the little Warwick combos.
 17. Play a gig in London and I'll come to watch just because of your singer being so hot.
 18.
I would cost me about £70 and a day of my time to travel there and back :-(
Same here. But I have friends in Swindon who I might be visiting soon. It's not too far from there.
 19.
BTW those of you who know me will know that I bought an Aguilar Agro to play with. I'm not looking to improve on the sound I have with the 680, I couldn't. But I was interested to see if the Agro could open my eyes to *another* new world. It didn't. I'm not a distortion kinda guy so I may be the wrong person to judge... HOWEVER, this last weekend, I rehearsed (we rehearse silently through a desk with cans and a TD20 kit) ...with the through-output of the 680 plugged into the input of the agro. I had the 680 DI into one channel on the desk as usual, but I set up another channel on the desk for the output of the agro. The mixed sound was very interesting. I had a very small amount of the Agro to augment the 680, and when the whole band struck up it almost vanished, but not quite. It will still take some experimentation to get the balance right but I'm convinced there's a place for it in my sound. Somewhere. I imagine I'll have more to say on this subject in a few weeks.
On the subject of valve overdrive/distortion sounds, I have a DHA valve effects pedal which I sometimes run in front of the DB680. The output of the first valve drives the second valve on the pedal, all of which then goes into the DB680. (There's a Master type control which means I can run the effect into the DB680 without overdriving it). It sounds better than an Ampeg to my ears. It sounds a bit like an old valve Marshall stack on the verge of explosion.
 20. Ooooooh! It's that song...
 21. Could I try it next time I'm in Brizzle? If it works for me, I'll take it off your hands.
 22. Just gave Rock Steady a listen (after a long while). Don't bother playing the bass part on the D chord exactly as it is on the record - it's not about that really. The bass can cut loose a bit on that section, get busier and syncopate a lot. There's nothing wrong with playing a simplified approximation - just so long as it's funky! (It's basically a D7 chord from the sounds of things - don't have a bass on me and my ear's not great - so just do the whole 60s R&B "Root-Minor 7th-Octave-Major 3rd-4th-#4-5" thing).
 23. I like the sound of it. I just need to check with the band members to see if there are any ethical objections from the band members (eg. any rabid Tottenham or Chelsea fans among them).
 24.
Sorry to sound cynical but it just seems like they're after some music for free.

So a fullish stadium full of people getting to hear your music, and they know who it is from the matchday show (whatever that is) and you don't have to pay anything? Sounds like a damn fine deal to me, specially if you are in London or the town of the team they are playing.
I agree with you both and I don't think that's a self-contradictory position for me to take. What do they get out of it? Free music. What do you get out of it? Free publicity. Win-win, unlike the actual football matches.
 25.
I'd like to point out that this is not the floating thumb technique. That is, for lack of a better definition, a movable anchor, and presents a great difficulty of shifting up and down strings over true floating thumb or total anchor. Floating thumb means NO anchoring, i.e. the side of your thumb slides across the strings and doesn't actually anchor to any of them. Search for Gary Willis or Todd Johnson on Youtube for a better illustration.
Thanks for the clarification. I want to go home and check what I do now.
