1. I think the quest for the best rig to suit you is not a daft one. After a years of planning, saving, buying, selling I think I have got very close to my perfect rig. And I'm not in a rush to change it - only enlarge it.
2. I think Oscar Wilde once said "the only way to get rid of GAS is to yield to it".
3.
Erm who is Rob Trujillo?
Well, clearly for some people a little more needs to be said. He's Metallica's current bassist. As well as all his metal gigs, he's also a very funky bass player.
4. Are there other bands on the bill that night? Get in touch with them in advance and see if you can use one of theirs on the night. Otherwise, the second cab idea is a good one.
5. Rob Trujillo. What more needs to be said?
6. Tony Williams was only 19 on that record, wasn't he?
7. it's a funky side table with space for your remote controls
8. A Kind Of Blue - possibly the finest jazz record ever made. Bitches Brew - if you want your head f***ed in more ways than Jenna Jameson.
9. If you do it right, you'll be surprised by the reaction you get. We had more applause at that gig than our "loud" gigs. In fact, this thread has inspired me to book another acoustic gig for us...
10.
Yeh I have done acoustic sets of re-arranged electric songs before, but I wouldn't try to just play an electric set as usual without a drummer. Program a laptop or arrange your songs for an acoustic style IMHO.
Agreed.
11. With some preamps, you can get a pretty decent effects loop with a wet/dry mix ratio control knob. That means you could in theory blend two preamps that way - and if you have a footswitchable effects loop, switch from clean to dirty to back again without any difficulty.
12. I'd go further than Tom and actually only record it MIDI - then run it through every conceivable drum sample and soft synth you have access to, just to find the best possible snare, kick, hats and toms.
13. We've gigged without our drummer once. We had to do different arrangements of the tunes - and we had to rely more heavily on our wussier tunes. It can be done but it requires a bit of thought in advance.
14.
Grilf - nice one. Do you mind if I borrow that word for my new DVD? Confessions of a Grilfer.
If it stars Robin Askwith and the father-in-law of our last Prime Minister, then you can certainly borrow it. In return I'd expect a complimentary copy.
15. Only advice you need is this: don't get lost. Don't get lost on your way to the venue. Don't get lost on your way from the dressing room to the stage (a la Spinal Tap). Don't get lost in the middle of a song. Don't get lost before you've taken your money, mingled with your crowd and thanked the promoter/staff. Don't get lost on your way back home.
16. I prefer the term "Grilf" to "Gilf". It has more of a ring to it.
17. I don't know what this says about me but I read the title as Old Breasts - and then ventured inside for a peek.
18.
In college we had a teacher who had us clap to the metronome. If you're on, you don't hear the click at all. It's harder than it sounds. Try it once!
It is hard at first but eventually you learn how to use a click properly and not have it get in your way. The hardest part of playing to a click is actually setting the right tempo in the first place. That might sound dumb but it's true.
19. The Fralins and Aguilar pre would be worth a couple of hundred quid on their own. The 2nd Jazz looks good.
20. To answer the original question, any more than Los Lobos and you've got a real problem.
21. The GK Backline range is GK's budget range. I can't comment on whether it sounds any good or is good value for money as I don't know anything else about it.
22.
At the moment I play in two bands, and technically, neither of them push me whatsoever.
Time to join a more challenging band or start your own band as leader / composer / arranger.
23. Damn. I was hoping this was a Wanted ad!
24. Thunderthumb's 1991 5-string Warwick Thumb NT.
25. Don't change the basslines you have so far. Just sort out the timing. The ideas are good and they'll sound great with a good drummer.
