2. Glad you're still with us, man! f***ing hell! Can we have an RCD sticky in EVERY sub-forum please?
  3.
Oof... I really do like aguilar gear...
Buy the 680 - that's a bargain! I paid more for mine, which was a secondhand ebay bargain from America.
  4.
judging from what I saw, he was just sleazy.
The rumours about him taking women back to his place, putting some Simply Red on the stereo and asking them to drop to their knees and service him are enough to conjure up unpleasant feelings everytime his name is mentioned or if you have the misfortune of seeing his face.
  5.
Don't lie, you just don't want him to find out about the secret yet simple technique that you use to help you play quickly in next to no time at all...
Play 3 sets a night, two nights in a row every now and then. You won't be able to play at all on the third day but after that your top speed will have almost doubled. But if you don't practice, practice, practice, your wrists will never be the same again. Be warned!
  6. Watch the video for Something Got Me Started above. It's a combination of the way he looks (the bits he can't help and the bits he can help) and the way he moves. He can sing and did write some decent tunes / lead a good band at one point though.
  7.
So, basically is there a technique for training your fingers to work at speed and in rhythm or do I just practice, practice, practice?
The technique for training your fingers to work at speed and in rhythm IS to just practice, practice, practice.
  8.
well im sure i mean it in the sense of what it means in my head
I'm just being a knob. I think you meant tactful.
  9.
i've got some appoligising to do with the drummer as he is still not speaking to me and we were good mates.
How did this happen?
  10.
we start off being tactile but pretty much immediately he gets sh*tty
You sure you mean tactile? When I'm about to tell someone they're a sh*t musician, I normally don't touch them first - and try to stay out of belting distance.

    Peavey VB-2

Never heard of it before but it looks like it has a load of great features.
  13. There might be a fair amount of ambiguity as to whether it's actually G7 or Gm7. It can be fun to mess around with that by putting in some bluesy minor 3rd - Major 3rd slides.
  14. I had to miss it in the end. If I'd found out any earlier I would have cancelled my plans and tried to organise something properly on here. Glad BC was represented though!
  15. Raindance Film Festival Right, Les Claypool's in town tonight for the screening of his new film at the CineWorld on Shaftesbury Avenue (in the Trocadero). He's doing a Q&A session afterwards. I know a few of us basschatters work in Central London. Who wants to come with and see this? I only heard about it 10 minutes ago. A friend of mine spotted him out and about a few minutes ago.
  16. And The Beat Goes On sounds like a Musciman Stingray with dead strings DId into the desk. So I'd suggest getting a Stingray 4 (2EQ), a great DI (Avalon or something) and a very, very clean & transparent cab (eg. Acme).
  17. In the seconds before he smashed the strat, he played the most guitar I've ever heard him play. Then he just seemed really into the moment and smashed up his Strat. I thought it was cool to see a man in his 60s smash up his guitar - seeing as he was the first guy to do it. And it was always a stage gimmick.
  18.
To cut a long story short I've just had the fortune to come into a little cash[...]
19. When we headline places we're usually a bit preoccupied but we still usually try to at least make conversation with the other bands and catch parts of their sets. We're always on time, never run over, never ask to borrow anyone else's equipment and always bring the biggest crowd. My attitude is that most musicians are w***ers and so whenever they do anything helpful or professional, I'm genuinely grateful. The thing that would piss me off is them not bringing the drumkit when they said they would - and I'd let them know there and then. Them keeping to themselves doesn't affect your set so just ignore it.
  20. The ART should be fine to start with. I think it has a nice little valve in there too.
  21.
This one is sadder
Don't know - I quite enjoyed that, actually.
  22. If you want to travel light - and like the sound of your bass DId - get a good DI like the Avalon. If you want to travel light and want a degree of tone shaping, your options are the Sansamp, EBS MicroBass II, and the Radial Bassbone. If travelling light isn't really an issue, get a valve preamp like the Aguilar DB680, Ampeg SVP-CL, Alembic FX1, Demeter or the Warwick Quadruplet, depending on what sound you're after. I think they're almost all discontinued.
  23.
You said it not me dude ... Back of to watch Shaft...
Hah, to quote Richard Rountree, "is that black enough fo' ya?"
