1. It is; met him at the Bulldog Bash last year, top bloke!
2.
It would have been rude of me to ignore that, especially as I had to drop a few drums off in Coventry where it was...
Excellent
3.
Ahh cool thanks how does it play and sound, would you be able to post it at all? I will happily pay for the p+p if your willing?
PM'd!
4. Tanglewood, Vintage, Yamaha and Crafter are usually safe bets secondhand; don't go Fender, Encore or Stagg. File under 'variable' (some are great, some not so): Ozark. You'd be able to score one of those for less than a hundred quid (or, should it take your fancy, I've got an Aria electro-acoustic I'd be willing to let go for forty quid if you could pick it up from South Birmingham)... 5. Hey man; I might have to hang fire on tonight, I'm gonna be pushed for time, but possibly tomorrow - sorry to be a bit flakey, but I've got a hella busy week and not gonna have time to make two trips to Walsall so need to combine them!
6. Walsall, West Mids? I think I got in touch with you via Gumtree last night about coming 'round to have a look at this, my tenant still hasn't got back to me about whether I can pop into the house though :s
7. I've already got a flightcase which one've these would fit in, which is pretty roadworn and spray-painted but solid as hell hence why I'm after just a combo! You're a touch more local than me by the look of things... Ooooooohhhhh, edit: just to check, I've just noticed that this is the smaller-badge, dual-input version (Evo i?) - any chance you could shoot me the dimensions of this just to be certain please Lloyd?
8. Don't suppose you'd consider selling this sans flightcase would you?
9. I too would be intrigued by this information
10. I wouldn't be surprised if we were to see a bit of a resurgence of them over the next few years actually, in view of 'good'/legally-sourced tonewoods becoming more scarce; as Myke says, they don't (usually) pretend to sound like a real acoustic, the shallower body is actually an advantage for an amplified electro in terms of reducing feedback and with leaps forward in transducer and emulator technology can actually get a lot closer to the natural sound we often want than they've ever been able to before.
11.
As for the lawsuit, I understand there was something similar with Drawmer about the original line of Gates and Compressors..
They were also sued (or at least threatened with legal action) by Boss when they first started doing compact effects pedals; IIRC they changed the colours away from the Bosses which they were 'inspired by'
12. Good spot, would that I could justify it!
13. My current other half's actually really good with this, she sort of raised her eyebrows when she thought I'd bought two guitars in a week (bid on one on eBay but didn't 'win' it, then bought a different one) but as far as she's concerned as long as I can afford it without putting myself in financial dire straits all's good Might change if we end up living together
14. Baaaaaarrrrrr-gain....http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/music-centre/1002230569#gallery-item-full-2
15.
IMO..........cheap tat but if you can get it repaired cheaply then it may do the job for you over a period of time.
Therein lies the problem; Behringer gear (like much of the Far Eastern mass-produced electronics stuff now) is practically impossible to repair if it goes wrong. Sadly it's almost always a 'chuck it in the bin and buy a new one' job, since the surface-mount components are incredibly difficult to solder by hand and the construction of much of the hardware means you'll probably break it trying to dismantle it.
16.
I always enjoyed the time said magazine lauded a very reputable brands £1000 DVD player as a wonderful machine etc etc. while it was later revealed to be nothing but a three year old supermarket own brand cheapo that they had previously derided inside the casing! Being sold for £1000. Oh the stories I could tell Mission speakers, now there's a story
As an ex-audio industry professional, it's quite gratifying to hear this as I'd been saying exactly the same thing for years! The number of times I had to talk someone I was spec-ing a system for out of buying whatever was *insert magazine name here*'s flavour of the month and into buying something that was exactly the same for a fraction of the cost...
17.
That's 45mpg, which isn't too bad for a 2.8!
Now you've done that surprising conversion, I had to check it; discovered the speedo's in MPH but the odo's in KM! Full-on 'doh' moment; guess we're doing 25-30mpg then
18. Colour me interested if you might be around Nottingham for me to collect on the way back down to Birmingham Sunday; what's footswitchable on the version you're selling? They seemed to vary quite a lot on the Mk IIs IIRC...
19. Another +1 for NAD, had a 310 for years which was fantastic.
20. Colour me interested if dodgnovski doesn't have it!
21.
How do they feel about rear-view mirrors in France Jacques?
If it's anything like over here, as long as your wing mirrors are unobstructed you don't need to be able to see out of the rear view (as of course most vans are). I've got one of these: Fits four band members plus full kit comfortably (with the option of two more passengers if you fold the rear seats back down again), blacked-out rear windows as standard, insured as a car rather than as a van which (for me) worked out considerably cheaper. Downsides are that they're heavy on juice (think 10miles/litre tops, but for an old 2.8 diesel it could be worse) and are comparatively rare so parts might be hard to come by (although as I understand they share a lot of bits with the Mitzi Pajero which are a lot more common).
22. Politely bumping this to see if anyone else has any opinions, as I'm seriously considering one of these at the silly prices they're going for at the minute!
23.
The boost in the lows that you get from having your cab on the floor doesn't vanish as soon as you lift your cab - all that happens is that instead of getting that boost from the low-mids downwards, the boost starts just working on the upper-bass down, then the mid-bass down and then the low-bass only, as the cab gets higher off the ground. With your cab on a typical chair or small combo, you'll still be getting the reinforcement on your mid and low bass (100Hz down), which is where you're most likely to need it. All this stuff is acoustic coupling and is usually a good thing.
I've actually been trying to get my head 'round this, as I have the option of putting my cab in a flightcase lid to put it about a meter from the ground; I've noticed this does subjectively 'tighten up' the sound, as well as providing a volume boost just from having the cab closer to my ears. Is the boost due to reinforcment between the direct waves from the cab and the reflections from the floor or am I barking up the wrong tree?
