But isn't that purple?
I don't care what colour it is - it's certainly a loud colour
Pink bass? No problem. One of my favourite ever Zons: Yummy!
Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! As for the original OP, I think that pic you have looks great and whilst I've never been into gold hardware I think the extra bling might just be a nice finishing touch on that particular instrument.

Dingwall Combustion - anyone got or played one?
Nah i was just curious as i hadn't seen another fanned fret bass, i just gathered Novax was Dingwall's brand.
You've probably found these yourself but just to add to this discussion, here's the novax website where they talk about the fanned fret concept http://www.novaxguitars.com/info/concept.html actually they have some interesting stuff on the site. Interesingly Sei offer a fanned fret option and I know somewhere around here there's a Shuker fanned fretted bass build being documented. Looks like Novax do license the fanned fret concept, see http://www.novaxguitars.com/licensing.html EDIT: Here's the Shuker thread - really nice looking single cut http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31247, oh and here's a fanned fret Sei http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=31247 Sorry I'll stop the information overload now -
Probably right P, but I just didnt. what can I say? Im only human and certainy no saint!! does no one here ever just get CROSS!! eh? or if they do just cant admit to it? sometimes when youre alone at night with your own thoughts dont you ever just think..... "if only I could go back to that moment I'd............. (insert here)" Oh come on, you know you have!
Good grief the number of times, after the event, that I've thought to myself "damn why did I do that" or "damn why didn't I do that" are too numerous to count. It's always easy in the cold light of day and on a web forum to say "you should have done X" but it's not always so easy when the moment/time is right to do this. Don't let it get to you witterth. If the guy's opinion is something you want to hear, then go talk to him if you get a chance - say you heard he'd said X & Y and would like an explanation. If he's someone you don't care about, then just try to forget about him, because he ain't worth it (I know, easier said than done sometimes ). EDIT: spellcheck
Everyone has their own way of dealing with such situations. Myself, I wouldn't have blanked the guy in this situation, because he probably wouldn't have made the connection - he'd just think that you were a grumpy old git, and nothing has been achieved. I'd be more likely to respond to "alright mate" with "I hear you don't think much of my tone or equipment. Shall we talk about that?"
+1 - have to agree, I'd make sure it was brought out into the open and put him in a position where he'd at least have to justify his comments or slink off tail between his legs.

About time it was returned to the family. Great news.

Simply put a good bass player plays the right notes at the right time just like any other musician. The main area where a bassist differs from any other musician (imo) is that they tend to be a link between the rhythm section/drums and the music and working with the rhythm section add a foundation for the song/music to sit on. Musical taste will dictate whether people class a good bass player as an in yer face bassist or one that sits at the back never to be noticed until they go missing, but ultimately they're doing much the same job EDIT: would help if I could spell rhythm correctly every time
And Jazz 625
Not a BBC show I admit, but bring back The Tube. apart (possibly) from the OGWT, this was the only show that would let Mark King go onstage to do a slap solo or open my mind to the superb Stanley Jordan playing Eleanor Rigby (if I recall). As for the OP - I tend to laugh at programmes which do not have a true reflectionion of the various genre's of music and musicians out there. It's obviously a shame that "Joe Public" are not seeing more than pop or rock, but obviously the programme makers feel that's where the largest audience is. Just repeat to yourself that you're special and unique and therefore your view of things are not neccesarily the same those of Joe Public et al.

I think (as others have mentioned) that a long time back (i.e. the 60's ) it may have been true that the worst guitarist in a band became the bassist. But then bassist started becoming so much more than just holding down the root notes with the likes of Jack Bruce, McCartney, Jamerson, Cassidy etc. showing the way. In terms of myself, I'm not sure I can truly say I started out playing guitar, but my father owned an acoustic 6 string (that he never played) and I did learn a little on it, but I don't think in my wildest dreams I could say I "played" guitar at this point. When it came to forming a band I sort of decided on bass by it being one of the last positions available. So I equally couldn't say I always wanted to be a bassist or anything like that. I do however think you need a very different mentality to be a bassist than a guitarist, so not all guitarists make good bassists, likewise (whilst I do now play guitar) not all bassist make good guitarists.

All this talk of delta metal reminds me that I want a delta metal Vigier bass (someday ).

A friend and guitarist defretted one of his guitars many years ago - seems there's a whole community of fretless guitar players out there - sounds like this should be fun. I look forward to seeing more on it when it arrives.
I use low budget gear only for now, who knows I'll strike a great deal here for better equipement Anyway, budget gear does not mean bad sound at all.
Welcome. Hey, if the gear you've got does what you need then it makes no difference whether it's budget or high end. Be happy . Many of us spend our playing lives looking for the supposed "perfect" sound
but you're better off getting off your arse & visiting some music shops to find your ideal £1k bass. You'll know it's your bass when you feel just right playing it & love the sound it produces.
True
Have you looked at a custom? Shuker maybe? Always an option with that amount of money.
Was thinking the same - there's been a few fabulous Shuker's for sale here lately (some still for sale). For that sort of money I personally (as others have said) would look second hand. You get a whole lot more bang for yer bucks. EDIT: But ofcourse your choice should be based upon what sort of sound etc. you want
