1. Consults old list for two word band names that may fit... Beat City the Heart Keys Dirty Work the Up Sides Walking Distance Whisky Tango the Low Downs Perfect Strangers All better than anything I saw on the function band site I just looked at.
2. He's got very good taste in his choice of football club.
3.
That cheeky Specials number "Nite Klub", October 4th 2008, Room 1, The Tunnels, Aberdeen. I would have been 32 at the time. I don't remember much of being on stage first hand, too much adrenaline/nerves. A video was taken though, so there are some memories, even if they are second hand.
A bass solo in your first ever live number! Fair play Mr Heid.
4. Early 1979. After school gig. Gates were closed early and police were called as another local school turned up mob handed and wanted to get in and 'steam' us. First song was I think was a cover of Borstal Breakout by Sham 69. Played on my new acquired black Shergold Marathon through a borrowed Ampeg SVT with an 8x10. It was nice working part time in a music shop . The guitarist had borrowed a Gibson Les Paul and full Marshall stack for the night too. No drummer or vocals were heard. We had two singers for some reason I've forgotten.
5. I should have mentioned he's not scary at all and it's incredibly funny when you're at the match and it's in context. Anyway. I can't see how I could hold a plectrum with gloves on.
6. Gloves! I couldn't. 'Mad Jock' who sits a few rows behind me at Brentford might turn up at a gig. Whenever he sees an opposing player with gloves on it's usually like this..... "Hey you with the gloves. Yer big ****ing ****. Yeah you. Get those gloves off. It's a mans game yer big **** ******* yer nay doing yer ******* mam's washing up yer *****. Yeah and you as well yer *****" etc. For that reason Nigel. I'm out.
7. Dimarzio Model One? The Gibson EB replacement. Woof.
8.
Heard this on the radio this morning and the Bass really sounded great, distorted Precision/Ampeg/Marshall at a guess, could be totally wrong.
That's rubbish........it sounds just like mine.
9.
I have the same bass in original Ned Callan livery ... but after a long, traumatic life which has left it a mere shadow of the bass it once was. Oh cruel, cruel world.
I like you're Ned Callan Jack. It's 'road worn'. That road being the Old Kent Road full of navvies on a particularly feisty Saturday night.
10.
However, I meant this thread to be about how you consider yourself. I should have said something like "are you a mechanic or a composer?" but folks would take that ill
I play my own compositions mechanically.
11.
Bbrraaa-tishh!! (drummer thing)
You were late (rest of the band thing)
12. In seriousness when people ask I say I am a bass player. I don't consider myself a musician or worry that I'm not. I just like being in a band.
13.
I'm soo glad you asked! Here's the door my friend. It's up to you to walk through...
I understood all that! Thanks.
14. Neat Neat Neat - the Damned. Must sneak this into the set.
15. Have you tried contacting the shop? They may have some info still. Peter Cooks Guitar World I'd go in there and ask for you but I can't risk the GAS I get when I go in.
16.
Ive snogged Barbra Windsor !!!!!
Fair play...... .....I think. Are you Sid James?
17. More tenuous claims part 2. My Nan was Tommy Steels cleaner. Mrs LEB has snogged Ron Wood! Damaged goods but I'll let her off. I was once 'going out with' a woman who was also 'going out with' George Best at the same time. Not a Miss World sadly but tasty none the less. Luckily no trips to the clinic were required either.
18. Avon EB0 copy. Gave tin and firewood a bad name. Awful thing. Probably worth £150 as a 'Lawsuit' now.
19. A Radio Birdman compilation. My newest old band discovery. I can't stop playing 'Aloha Steve and Danno' Great stuff. How had I never heard of this lot until now?
20. I came very, very late to the Beatles party. I'd no interest for years and ended up deliberatly avoiding them because people told me I should listen to them and I'm perverse like that. I only bought my first Beatles product when the remasters came out last September. I got myself Abbey Road and the White Album. I love his playing and that big, creamy almost dubby sound is lovely. There is the odd gem post Beatles too. There is no excuse for C Moon or the chestnut rinse though.
21. I just looked at the circle of fifths on wikipedia. My brain is hurting already. Maybe I'll dig out the bass scales book I bought 6 years ago and looked at once before making a 'pfft' noise and stashing it away on the book shelf.
22. The notes on the neck is the one thing I do know Bilbo. I'll look up the circle of fifths Purpleblob. Thanks.
23. So where's a good, non boring, place for a non reading, no theory, never had a lesson, self taught chap to start? I'm sure I must know some rules as I know when a note sounds 'wrong'. I'm interested to see what a bit of knowledge could do to my playing even at my advanced age.
24. I'm excited to see this. Is there going to be a fish on it?
