Why doesn't anyone make a vertically aligned 3x10?
Low End Bee replied to Wil's topic in Amps and Cabs
I use a TC RS210 sat on top of an RS112 -
I'm using those DR Black Beauty thingies. Very smooth and last about 4 times as long as my old cheesegrater Rotosounds. That eases the blow of them costing 32 quid a pop. They look damn cool too.

I've always locked in on the hubcaps. I don't consciouslessy ever listen out for the kick drum.

If you don't like Grolsch like me you can get them on home beer brewing websites in by the dozen apparently.

Fender Precisions - they're fantastic
I don't know if it's the amp i'm using, (Ashdown EVO II 500 C210 with 115 extension cab) but I just can't get the sound that I want. My old Epi T-Bird and Peavey TNT150 seems to do the job better for me but I want to upgrade.
You're amp is definitely the problem. If you buy my Trace combo it'll be solved and make you more attractive to women too Seriously though. Don't underestimate the affect different strings can have on your sound. Maybe a different brand or a set of flats if you're using rounds. -
Don't give 'em names. My songwriting guitar is known as the "mankocaster" though. It's a [s]manky[/s] 'lovingly reliced/mojo'd' strat.
I'm selling a Rickenbacker 4003 to get a P Bass. I haven't had chance to play one yet, but from what I've heard, they are the mutts nuts. The Rickenbacker doesn't quite get the sound that I want. I'm after a really low driving sound that you can feel, rather than the signature Ricky sound. Do you think a P is the right way to go?
It was for Paul Simenon. They fit the bill for low and driving in my opinion. I'd still suggest having a go on one first though. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder and all that. -

Try a Digitech Bad Monkey. Not too over the top and give a nice grindy edge. You can pick them up for under £30 too.

Boss TU2 - to keep in tune Digitech Bad Monkey - A bit more grit on a couple of songs Ashdown dual band compressor - on for a couple of songs that need to sound tighter EHX Bass Big Muff - For two songs again Digitech Bass Synth Wah - Just used for a single note synthy intro to a song DOD FX64 Icebox chorus - on one song that has some slow bass chord stuff If there were more in the band than just the three of us I'd probably just have the BBM and the tuner! As I'm happy with my un-effected sound. As there is a fair amount of just bass, drums and vocals when the guitarist stops playing (on purpose) during the set though I feel it makes it more listenable and dynamic to pad out the bass sound a bit.

Recently I've tried: SD SPB1 vintage - Nice even, old school P bass tone. Very good general purpose tone. Dimarzio model P. An original 70s one - Very hot. Lots of bass and low mids. has to go in active inputs. Dimarzio model P newish - Not as hot same sort of tone. Fender S1 std - Very nice and similar to the SD. Wizard Thumper - A bit like a darker SPB1 with a little more output. My favourite. I don't need variety and this suits my band mix well.

Guitar/Bass tech West London area
Low End Bee replied to Low End Bee's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks you two. These two are on my list now. A couple of hours, lots of hex keys and much swearing has resulted in a very acceptable setting of the action. I do hate doing it though. I need red wine now. -

Bargain programmable Sansamp - gone
Low End Bee replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I've got one. It's brilliant. That's a bargain. -
The no. 1 Precision needs a set up. Action is too high for me. I've gradually been tweaking the truss rod and saddles but it's not as it should be. I can do a very rudimentary set up. But not like somebody who knows what they're doing. I'm thinking the change to DR strings from Rotosounds is a contributing factor. I'm sure they are a lower tension. I have a love/hate relationship with my local place. You'd have thought I wanted to relieve myself in their mums handbag when I enquired about booking it in too. Very offhand customer service. Plus £60 for a set up ex strings and another £30 'queue jump' charge to get it back in a week doesn't shout value to me. Anyone got any suggestions near Brentford/Chiswick way?

At times they both sound like a set of spanners dropped into a metal dustbin to me.

Depends which football team they support.

My S1 pot is in the junk drawer. Couldn't see any point to it on a Precision.
Hey guys - a good friend of mine has said he can get hold Orange bass heads/cabs at knock-down prices (all perfectly legit, I promise! ). I'm playing in a rock/pop/alternative 5-piece, nothing too heavy but the bass sound I'm looking forward to is a decent punchy bottome-end with nice rounded mid to high end tone. I play a Status Graphite Series I, originally through a Trace Elliott AH300-12 (sadly now defunct) and a Peavey 4 x 10 cab. I'm looking to play small to medium-sized venues for now. For those of you who know the Orange amps, would the Terror bass 500 head carry enough punch for these size venues (I presume at 500W it would be!) and is it suitable for the tone I'm looking for? Ideally I'm looking to avoid that "metallic" sound that some amps naturally produce (eg Ampeg). Any thoughts much appreciated! Dave
More than enough punch Dave. I doubt you'll ever get near halfway on the master volume. They sound very warm. 'Metallic' sound? It's 'grind' rather than 'zing' if that makes sense? It depends how much gain you whack on. Plenty of fundamental bottom and the mids and highs are nice and smooth. You don't get any sort of 'hi-fi' tone which is fine by me. As I say the bloke with the Sei sounded great and he said my precision did too. I'm sure a lot depends on the cab/s too. Try one if you can. Ad
Good to hear that these can be versatile too then. These are rapidly climbing my Gas list!
He was playing 70s/80s style funk (and was a really good player too) so it suited it really well. You should get commission HJ. The pity was he was interested in the Trace combo I'm selling until he used the Orange.

Really pleased with how the OTB & TC cabs sounded on Saturday. It was a difficult room to control the sound. Lots of natural reverb. They really cut through well though. Lots of oomph and they sounded great with a bit of Bass Big Muff too. I let the bass player from the other band use it as his 1970s Acoustic head went fftttt on soundhcheck. He was using a headless, active Sei bass and was playing funky slappy stuff. So chalk and cheese from me and the Precision thump. He sounded great. Very warm and punchy but with definition too. He is now going to get himself an Orange Terror too. He couldn't believe how good it sounded. It's really hard to get a bad sound out of one of these heads. I just need to find a PA that can keep up now.
i never know might be a blessing in disguise??
You have to look at it like that. It's taken 3 years and 8 different band members to distill our band into the happy and settled trio we are now.
