Low End Bee

Our regular studio is booked out for some bigwig this week with a lot of our gear left in it (drum shells and guitar amps) Any recommendations? We need a bash on Thursday if possible.

The mid 60s Epiphone Rivoli I had for a few weeks in 1979. I paid £105 and thought it looked cool but sounded horribly muddy. Part exchanged it against a Gibson Marauder which was actually a very nice guitar. I'm guessing there worth more than £105 now?

I've joined by mistake. Where are the toilets?

Used mine last night in full band mode. It's a snarly little beggar. I was very impressed with the sound in the mix. I'm thinking of using it next gig now. Top value for money. The red strings were great. Hated by the guitarist. Loved by the drummer.

They're very good aren't they? I dropped the pickups into the body a bit as they were so LOUD. I'm giving it a debut at full band rehearsal tonight. Can't wait to hear how it sounds in the mix.

Interesting. If you take Robbie Shakespeare as a pointer. After all he's played on hundreds of tracks that have had versions. I've seen him play a Jazz, Hofner violin and a Steinberger to name but a few. It's more in the amp and settings with him I'm sure. Doesn't help does it?

The song comes first and I just throw my two or three very similar sounds at it and hope one of them sticks.

I sound like a Precision through an Orange Terror Bass. There's not much you can do no matter how much you twiddle the knobs with these two. Thankfully I like the sound.

I'd have to speak to the drummer from the London Deadbeats and I haven't done that since 1982 I'd love to get hold of the old tapes.

J.[/quote] A brief review as I haven't had it long. Finish is really excellent. Hardware is good quality. Neck is like a very slightly shallower Precision. Fretwork is good. The frets are low and thin vintage stylee. Weight is about 8 1/2 lbs. It's very easy to play. Pickups have a lot of output. Lots of growl and a nice snarly rasp too if you get my drift. Really pushes an amp without being boomy. The neck took a while to settle but it had been travelling in different temperatures for a while before I got it. Thanks Parcelfarce for the additional 3 days in an unheated depot. Slight niggles. Vol & Tone do nothing much until they hit zero. I'll replace these. Side dots on the neck are tiny and done in MOP so I can barely see them. I'll get stickers. Fingerboard was dry as a bone. Gave it a bit of oil. Apart from that it's great. I'll probably swap the pickups as I can never resist doing this even when I don't need to. A bargain at £249.

You'll have to excuse me I was being facetious and trying to convert you to the Transit Van (P-bass) of the bass world. They all look like good choices. I'm sure once you've played them one will stick out as the best for you. It's very hard to give more advice than that.

Definitely the Precision.
