That's all true JT. We've kind of paid our dues though. We're an originals (possibly slightly plagiaristic) band. We don't play 'difficult' music and have some catchy tunes. We get decent numbers in who buy beer. We've played with some of the big boys and held our own and we put on a good show. Trouble is our regular haunts are booked up or want us to do the full 'get the bands together, promote it and do the logistics' nights which you can only do so many times a year on top of normal life. Our home patch is very sparse for venues these days too as Clarky will vouch for. We're not just competing with local bands for slots as any part of London attracts them from all over. We like getting paid which thankfully happens 95% of the time but we take each gig on merit and need to keep our match fitness up at the moment.
The only thing I can suggest is arranging your own gigs. Find a function room with a bar to hire, promote it yourself and sell the tickets.
I did this for the last one and arrange two or three a year like this. It's a lot of work and I haven't got the time and energy to arrange one for the every 3-4 weeks we'd like to play though.

We book all ours too. The 'promoter' managed to get us one three men and a dog disaster and we parted company just before they folded. To be fair the drummers been away on work a lot and we had to turn three down in Feb & March but he's free now and we're kicking our heels.

The gigs have dried up. We signed up with a promo company last Decemmber who exploded in a collision of incompetence and empty promises that's put us behind a bit. Despite having a cracking last couple of gigs with healthy turn outs we can't seem to get anything in the diary. We've got a couple to finalise in October and November but that feels a long way off. Nothing available at our regular haunts until autumn either. If you want the Jetsonics to support/share a gig with your band or have any ideas who would have a loveable power pop punk trio let me know. It's a bit frustrating when we're on good form.

Another lovely cable. Delivered with minimal fuss. All 8 metres of it. By the way it's not Dave's fault I managed to lasso my left ankle after an excursion off stage and back on it's first outing

I find if we're having trouble finishing a song it's probably because it's not good enough and it's time to move on to the next one. If there are good parts I will keep them in the song bank. Many songs in the current set have choruses/verses/lyrics from previously junked projects. I'm sure it doesn't work for all bands and songwriters but ruthless and brutal are the way to go for us.

DR Black Beautie Strings - never again....
Low End Bee replied to intime-nick's topic in Accessories and Misc
I used to love them. Once they changed the coating and 'improved' the formula I had a run of dead G strings and they lost their zing really quickly. The last straw was an A string breaking on a sound check. I use D'Addario's now at less than half price and they are lasting a lot longer than my last sets of DR's were. It's a real shame as they look so good on a bass. -

the Jetsonics - The Grey Horse, Kingston Friday 10th May

That. Was fun! Nice to have 4 BCers at a gig. I fear Mr Bridgers strat will need more than a set up.... -
I've started looking around for flock wallpaper offcuts but this is still for sale or trade at the moment. Trades I'm interested in are something oddball and/or shortscale or fretless with 4 strings. Maybe a small combo as my 15 year old has just joined a band on low end duties! I had a little play on it last night. That variable coil tap gets some really nice varied sounds out.

How Long on Stage Before You Get Your Mojo on?
Low End Bee replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I don't get the top premier cru mojo at every single gig. If I do it's right from the off. The drummer takes a couple of songs to get in his groove and the singer/guitarist used to go off the boil at the end until we sorted out what the problem was. So it used to be best to catch the middle of our sets. When you know you're all firing on all cylinders it's the best feeling ever. -
I fear Mr Bridger may need a name change.
They are now the Jimmy Saville Experience... -
Well I just listened to the Joni Mitchell Des Moines track that someone recommended. The bass was quite good. As were the drums, the horns, the singing, all good. I didn't get worked up about it either way. So, er, I'm on the fence.
Fair play. I retract my fence statement. If he doesn't emphatically divide opinions there's nothing for me to like.

Pastorius is great in that he divides opinion. At least you won't sit on the fence after hearing him.

Richmond is a pissabolity.

Is he still out on bail?
Ad, thanks ever so much for being there mate, see you at the Grey Horse in a couple of weeks man!
My pleasure. I really enjoyed it. Kit and the band were on top form and you're like the mad professor of bass. All those sounds add to the songs though and aren't there for no reason. I doff my cap. It's not every gig I go home with the bass players missus either
-
I'm pretty pleased with myself for managing to get two bands I want to watch on the same bill. We've got Chatham's Mr Bridger with their massively entertaining rock n roll bonkers front man and the debut gig from Hour of the Dog with Basschat's very own Discreet on bass. Should be a corker.

My white curly Bullet lead I've had about 18 months went kaput second song at Friday's gig in Croydon. Luckily I had an OBBM spare in the dressing room or I would have been fecked. Shame it looked the part. Function over for form from now on.
-
We've previously used the theme tune to Where Eagles Dare or the dogfight theme from Battle of Britain. We just settle for 15 seconds of feedback as the intro to the first song these days. Jupiter from the Planets opening Mott the Hoople shows is my favourite.

I thought it was in our contracts. Bass and general duties.
I think this must be made from the same wood as the old bench that commemorates the 1914-18 war by the duck pond near where i live. It's certainly got the same weather beaten look about it.
