  1. Just sold some strings to BaconCheese on a try before you buy basis. A pleasure doing business with Johannes. Very prompt payment.
  2. These are around 500 Euro new. They are gut core with a metal wound wrap. Totally stable tuning. Very good condition. You can google reviews . They are hand made by Gerold Gennsler.
  3. I've had gut strings on now for about three years or so. There is no other string like Gut. Yes there are tuning issues but you get used to that quickly. Maintenance is not an issue. I haven't done anything with them in all the time I've had them. The sound is seductive. They are just begging you to Swing. The low tension is much easier on the hands than steels. You can bow them but I have to say that the G sounds too harsh to use in a serious ensemble. Ok to bow the lower strings for the obligatory long note at the end of a ballad etc.
  4. I've used both the EA Wizzy and the crazy 8. Both great cabs but the crazy 8 shades it and it's cheaper. Plenty loud enough for most situations.
  5. Hi I'm increasingly finding myself in the position where the DB is becoming impractical so I am thinking of pulling the trigger on a bass allegro 4 string. Will still use DB as my main . Any guys got any experience with this EUB. thanks
  6. I agree with Clarky in that it all depends on volume. It's my view that DB is no fun at high volumes . If the volume gets to the point where the DB sound is compromised so much that you'd be better off playing an EB then I think I'd play EB. I really don't see the point in playing gigs where that is the case. That being said I find the Ten 2 cab more than enough for all but the loudest of gigs and it has loads of bottom IMHO . Most situations that require more volume will have FOH reinforcement. Also use the crazy 8 cab with the EA doubler . No problems playing in bands with drummers.
  7. Wow you're giving away a quality pick up at this price. At £85 it's a real bargain for the buyer . Should you ever decide that the Full circle might be worth a revisit you might regret this.
  8. Sold Rob a speaker ...very prompt payment even though he had to wait a while for the speaker to arrive. Top Basschatter. pleasure doing business with him.
  9. Ok so update The love affair continues. The pistoy was a bit thuddy compared to the Lyon e but it's starting to open up. The E copper wound is probably the weakest on this bass . The tuning is stabilising. The feel and tone continue to inspire. Practicing some Parker Heads and trying to get some speed. There is an addictive 'chiff' to the pizz. The arco for me is unusable. I can bow the strings ok but the tone on the G string wouldn't work for me in an ensemble. I'm fortunate enough to have another bass that can do that stuff. Still I can do stuff on this gut set up that was a 'fight' on steels.
  10. Hi nameistaken The gamuts have more than enough sustain IMHO. Maybe not as much as Spiros but then sometimes that Mwah isn't always desirable.
  11. Hi Clarky Glad your enjoying the Olive G . It is indeed a stellar string. Fwiw the olive d can be very thuddy . Obviously depends on the bass. However you'd be shelling out a lot of dough for a string that may or may not work on your bass.
  12. Gig tonight with a 4 piece all original stuff. This only my second gig with this singer so couldnt afford to use her as a string experiment. Didn't have the courage to use the gut strung bass. I'd prefer a straight ahead jazz gig first to see how they blend. Just in the door but I'm thinking about practicing tomorrow. These strings are addictive.
  13. Just pulled the trigger on a set of guts from a fellow bass chatter . I do a reasonable amount of classical playing so I've always stuck to some form of steels or wound guts. . I'm lucky enough to have two basses so while my go to bass is strung with wound guts which bow and pizz great I thought I'd give the guts a try. I LOVE THESE strings. Only been on the bass two days so I have to tune frequently . I'm hoping they'll stretch in time. The low tension is so appealing. I can get round the bass so much easier. The tone is full Fat ... None of your semi skimmed stuff here. I hope this translates well in a gig. Thought I'd share my initial enthusiasm.
  14. I'll second that . My Focus 2 r was over 7 years old and AI not only repaired it but upgraded some if the components for free. A great amp from a great company.
  15. Hey Duncan I know a way you can raise a few quid! 😄😄😄

  17. EA Wizzy 10 for sale great nick. £325 Ono. P&P not included.
  18. Sonores Drago Basso Easy to bow and low tension . The downside is the price. Very pricy Spiro Weichs are pretty low too.
  19. Hi I have New Standard La Scala that I imported in 2007 . Yes it was pretty costly to import . The dollar price translates to Pounds by the time you pay shipping vat customs etc. it's a quality instrument though.
