1. Here's some questions I'd be asking myself. Am I enjoying playing this music? Am I still there because my big brother is in the band? Would I be musically happier elsewhere? In the interests of maintaining a healthy relationship with your brother I think you should move on! I've played in loud bands and just got on with it when I was much younger. Nowadays as a freelancer I make my feelings clear from the first tune. I'm not really bothered if I come across as 'difficult'. If the band doesn't like it they won't ask me back. If you have FOH amplification then the onstage volume should be as 'musical' as you can make it. If your sound is unmusical what's the point of playing. I'd rather stay at home and have a bottle of good vino.
2. Lovely playing from all concerned. Great musical balance and a remarkably good recording. Congrats
3.
Ever since I bought my second DB, my Eminence EUB hasn't been to a single practice - good as it is, it just doesn't compare to the big wooden box. The hassle of lugging it around is worth it from the first note.
+1
4. Hey Sorry for repeating myself but I'd still urge you to get the best laminate bass you can afford. You say you want to get technique down first. The physical/technical demands of a DB as opposed to an EB or EUB are very different. Why would you want to waste time with a halfway house solution if you see yourself as wanting to play DB.
5. HI ChunkyMunky If you want to learn to play double bass get a double bass. Best of luck
6. I've only experience with Shadow, Rev Solo and Full Circle. The full circle produces the most consistent DB sound IMO .

8.
Thanks Peter/MS I contacted Nuno at Velvet this morning and he said he would send a new G to me (he mentioned there had been a bad batch and that they had to trash the production of them - sounds like I got one that escaped destruction). Hopefully all's well that ends well
Result!!!
9. Given your criteria I'd say buy with confidence!
10. sorry to hear that Clarky. I had a similar experience albeit with a new set. Nuno at Velvet sent me a replacement G . It just came apart ...it is a recurring problem but I think that Velvet are aware and replace where necessary. Maybe it's a quality control issue...either way it's a very expensive experiment for us bass players . Hopefully you'll get satisfaction from Velvet. They are great strings though ...
11. Congrats it looks great! Skilled Luthier you have....
12. Great little amp. I disagree with Clarky in that when paired with the right cab (cxl112) it produces a warm sound on EB as well as being a top notch bass for DB. Mind you I don't play much EB these days so maybe i'm not the best judge. I use it as a back up to my Focus 2r. As I had to get my Focus repaired recently I was using the micro a lot . I got a really pleasing warm sound on DB. The only downside is the price imo.
13. Just I thought I'd update you on the amp repair. After a lot of wrangling with customs I finally got my amp back from Fed ex. The amp is working like new and I noticed that Rick at Acoustic Image upgraded several other parts for free. I checked the original purchase date 2005 . Amazing customer service.
14. Enjoy and post pics when the baby arrives!
15.
They have excellent wattage but lack the bigger size speakers to move air and produce bass IMO.
The smaller Ai contra and coda have pretty limited volume indeed but the Ten2 or Ten 2 ex with an amp has loads of volume.
16. Used various amps and speakers but settled on AI Focus into Ten2 ex as my preferred set up. Back up is EA doubler into wizzy 10 or EACXL 112 if its a very loud gig. The Ten 2 copes with most everything though. Where possible I'll avoid heavy lifting. Had a GK 112 . Great amp but a little coloured IMO
17. Yes Clarky it's a favourite album of mine. Check out his duo with Jarret . The album, s called Jasmine . Steal away with Hank Jones too
18. Just got word back from Rick at Acoustic Image. Amp repaired ... Result !!!!
19. When I had a shadow I used a sax players discarded reeds as a shim. They're tapered and do the job well.
20. Congratulations on your series of lessons . Thought ful and brimming with clarity. You manage to get to the 'good stuff' in such a short time. Looking forward to checking them all out.
21. ... The amplified sound which is what most of us rely on won't pick up the subtle nuances of an expensive bass. In many cases a cheaper ply or hybrid will amplify better than a very resonant carved which may have feedback issues ...
