1. My dream bass. Looking at your sig Arnold, you're obviously loaded so you could afford to sell this to me for peanuts. Waddya say? Good luck with the sale sir.
2. I've had a few custom Fender copies - Shuker, Sandberg etc and they were nice basses but a good Fender P or J is like putting on your favourite underpants...warm, comforting and so right aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
3. Yeh - it's a 3020 I've had for about 30 years. Still sounds great.
4. I've seen Simon a couple of times with Free Parking - he's an amazing player.
5. I've had a few P5s - a MIA Fender which was very nice, I've also had 3 Lakland Jo Osborns and 2 Sandbergs. They were all good but the best for me was the Lakland Jo5 I had with a John East Preamp - 35" scale mind.
6. Here's mine, it's a Yamaha MG102C mixer going through a pair of M-Audio BX8a's. It's great, I can play along to music on my pc, or Youtube / Spotify etc and it sounds great. 7. Me too Dave, I've even thought of blowing a substantial wad on something exotic when my gigging days are over. For now, a MIA P bass and my Clover do the job very well.
8. Ah the law of diminishing returns eh I think CS guitars and basses are aimed at people with a lot of money to spare. Going off piste a little bit, I was talking to one of our Directors only last week on a similar subject. We have a Harley Davidson dealership which he is reponsible for. He told me that a fair number of top end Harleys are sold to people who don't even have a licence.
9. I've owned quite a few Ps in my time, my current one is a 2012 with CS pups and I love it. I got the chance to play OHM's Pino (unplugged) and I found it extremely hard to put it down. It just felt right, played beautifully and I instinctively knew it would sound great plugged in. Is it worth £3,000 new? IMHO no. It's not £2,000 better than my P or a RW I also played recently. However, if one came up at the right price and I'm thinking in terms of £1500-£1700 and I was in my market for a P, I wouldn't hesitate.
10.
Also, pobrien_ie and yepmop are really making me want to get a set of covers for my Precision. A bridge cover at the very least.
I'm agonising whether or not to put covers on mine. I like the look of them, I like the fact that the pup cover allows me to play a bit closer to the bridge but it's the idea of drilling holes that puts me off.
11.
Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision I think that should cover all potential requirements.
Beat me to it Spike
12.
The usual advice from me: a 500 watt amp and a 212 or 2 112 cabs. Modern gear sounds so much better.
What Chris said, I use a LMIII and a Genz Benz NX2, it's nice and warm, very light and could part the hair on an elephant's arse at 100 metres.
13. My favourite band, never tire of listening to their music
14. Boogie stuff is amazing - I'd love a WA Scout, they sound amazing but they're silly money. You seem to be in a good place gearwise
15. Very nice DD sir - had one myself once, great basses.
16. Get back up t'North Steve and let me here it with the '66
17.
I'd forgotten just how lovely a white/white/rosewood Fender can be. I used to have a Stratocaster in the same colour scheme. Very nice indeed
Cheers Nick.
18. I've played Old Horse Murphy's and it was a revelation. It just felt and played right as soon as I picked it up - more than any other P I've played. I think when my gigging days finally come to an end and I sell up, I'd definitely be tempted to blow the lot on a Pino.
