Anyways Alan, what you gonna do now? Buy another unit from someone else?
Not sure really Paul - just weighing up my options. I'd still like a BB, have to do some googling.

Well, I took it back yesterday and probably surprised the hell out of them when I walked in to the shop in Reading and handed the box to the manager (I live 200+ miles away in Preston) - I was actually on my way to Southampton and did a slight detour. They tried to talk me out of it saying that it was a good price blah blah and it had only been in the window etc - he couldn't answer when I asked him to explain why there were scratches on the casing / feet and around the jack socket or the fact the the leads had been unravelled. Anyway, they gave me my money back with a shrug of the shoulders and I carried on my journey to the south coast. I have to say they were nice people and it looked like a very nice shop and that I do sympathise with them to some degree in that they have to demo stuff and take it out the box to show people but this looked like someone had been using it for some time. I probably am a bit anal about my gear, someone else may have been perfectly happy with it.
How did you get on with that boxed in stage sound-wise...? huge boom potential, I'd suggest.
It was absolutely awful, I couldn't get a decent sound. I DI'd and apparently it sounded ok out front but I don't mind telling you I did a lot of knob twiddling that night.

Pretty unanimous methinks Thanks fellas - I've put it back in it's box and I'll be calling them in the morning.

I've just got home and found the Phil Jones Bass Buddy that I ordered last week waiting for me. First impressions weren't good, it was in its case, which was dusty, that was inside the original box, which was a bit bashed and that was in another cardboard box - clearly not original and packed out with bits of polystyrene. The inside lining of the case was a bit of a mess and the casing of the BB itself had some small scratches on it indicating to me it was either used or ex-demo. Further evidence of my suspicions were provided by the lead which had been unravelled and was just shoved in the case. I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm seriously considering sending it back cos these things aren't cheap. Is that a bit anal? What would you do?

Had a really enjoyable gig last night at Bollington Arts Centre near Macclesfield - a small but very nice theatre in a lovely village. It was really well organised and the room was full and set out cafe-style. We had a local support band called The Visitors who played their own stuff which was very good. I doubt if we made any money on it but what the hell, we don't do it for the money. As long as we cover expenses we're happy. It was my first gig on a 6er and I don't mind telling you a dropped a couple but I suspect only musos noticed Really pleased to see my good mate and fellow BCer russjm turn up to watch - thanks for coming Russ Here's a pic I took while we were setting up...

This was my back up bass, I've hardly used it and it's in excellent condition and comes in a functional hard case. I really like this bass but I've got something inbound so it has to go. £200 - no offers. Prefer to meet within a reasonable distance but will ship at your cost/risk. The only trades I may consider would be for a nice 1x10 or 1x12, or maybe a small combo in vgc with cash from me if necessary. Pics

Headphones - are better ones any better?

Hi Dave, they look promising mate - I found a review here.
I like my Sony MDR-XB700 headphones. Amazing bass response.
-
I like it, wonder how much?

I couldn't decide which small combo to buy for home practice so I just ordered a PJ Bass Buddy which'll also serve as a back up DI and recording tool. My headphones are pretty cheap but not nasty AKG K512s which I think I paid about £30 for. My question is, shall I use the £100 I've saved by not buying a combo on some better cans? Will I notice any difference?

I couldn't make my mind up what to buy for the house so today, I bought myself a PJ Bass Buddy. I can also use it is as a back up DI and for recording.

Thanks for that but it's more than I really wanted to pay - I was hoping to find one for about £100 but I know nothing about mixers at all. In fact, if I do buy one, someone will have to come and wire the thing up and show me how to work it
A little mackie would be perfect You'd be lookign for 3 stereo channels though, and a couple of monos, or 8 monos (you can figure out panning for yourself I'm sure). Somthing like this (clicky linky) Even has USB in from the 'puter - which is handy!
I run on GAS. My GAS goes in cycles - I've been GASsing for a nice 6 stringer for a long time and now I've got one, I'm GASsing for something passive with 4 strings. I also want a nice combo for practising in my den, some better headphones and a Phil Jones Bass Buddy. There is no end to it, just when you think you're GAS free, it comes back and bites you on the bum.
