1. I've got came to this 'Thumb Position' issue a few nights ago.. Guess I'll need to check some Youtube tutors' stuff..
2.
The old if you've got nothing good to say don't say anything at all comes to mind a little bit here.
Sorry?
3. There are at least a couple of similar threads with wonderful advices from pros - isn't it worth to do some search, rather making another one? They're all named kinda the same..
4. Hey, Dave, I doubt, that I'll make masterclass, obviously.. but, I'm just curious - does it mean, that you're now 'oficially' playing MusicMan's, not Sei's anymore (as your main basses)?
5. Use some Aebersold material, it should make some sense. Transcription of solos should be your first goal - by the way, I've just started transcribing Miles Davis' and Sonny Rollins' solos on Oleo, from Bags Groove - not too taxing solos in terms of note quantity and rhythmic stuff, also, there are some beautiful phrases, especially from Miles.. If you won't make it, I'll share it, when I'm done, but, it'll take a week or so..
6. I haven't checked 'ordinary' forums (those, that I 'am used to check everyday) for 5-6 days, Basschat included, and, hey, I haven't missed anything, it seems so far..
7. Richard Bona - Bisso Baba.. Vocal Solo transcription.. You can find it in Theory N Technique section..
8. I know, that maybe it's not an 'ordinary' thing but.. I loved the simplicity of his singing, and his voice brightness so much, that I tried to transcribe his singing.. I'm not saying it's 100% perfect, but, hey, it's vocals, overtones and stuff like that is helluva hard to transcribe properly.. Hope, you enjoy this. There's also me rushing through my work, if it helps, on Tube:
9. Another question for transcribers/pros.. How do you internalize solo, that you have transcribed? I mean, what do you do to get most of the solo - memorizing it (playing it alone with accompaniment), learning it in other(all?) keys, etc..? I found some Dave Liebman advices on this, but, I'd like to hear yours thoughts/advices on internalizing transcription.. Cheers Faith
10. Now, could anyone tell me, what's all the fuss about?
11. Oh yea, we could count notation into this..
12. All the way for high C - I am a 'convert' from B-G thing, and I'm soo happy.. E-C is great for transcription stuff (you're nearer guitars and woods..), great for arpeggios and stuff..
13. Ok, I know, it's a bit of a rant, but I'm fed up with situation in this forum section - most of threads are far away from Theory either Tech (though, they should be, yep?..) - it has transformed into sorta 'Tabs request' thing. Mods, can't we make a separate section for 'Tab asking & sharing'? We should solve this eventually.. Faith
14. I know, that she's a DBer, but, I'm talking about electric basses.. If I'm correct, that Jazz is fretted..?
15. She somehow doesn't do the trick for me.. Anyway, singing and playing 'odd' rhythm is not a rocket science at all, I think - it's all about rhytmic coordination - just like playing drums. And, why does she look to the fingerboard so much? Does she play fretless?
16. I've put it in Theory N Technique forum, along with transcription, so if anyone's fancy a try, you could find transcription there.. and, here's the vid:
17. Thanks some fantastic info on this.. Thanks.
18. No problem, mate.. Here it is..
19. Good to hear that. I'd be grateful, if you'd rush through my Miles Davis solo and give me some feedback, it's in Theory n Technique section - that one is a bit more 'subtle'.. Thanks once again, Rob, Faith
20. Ok, there goes one for all you, readers.. It's plain F blues, 8 choruses of solo. Quite fast tempo (for me, at least).. This is my first 'jazzy' attempt, but, thanks to Miles, solo wasn't too taxing, it all went quite well. Please, keep in mind, that some phrases are really hard to notate properly, but I've done my best. I haven't found a recording on Tube (quite a rare thing), so I'm uploading it along with transcription. I strongly suggest, irst of all, listening and becoming 'familiar' with the solo, before trying to nail it on instrument.. There are quite a few simply wonderful phrases, so, I hope, you'll enjoy it, and it will enrich your soloing ideas. All suggestions and advices are all welcome, Good luck, Faith.
21. So, as I'm into transcription, I would also like to get into analyzing players, that I'm transcribing. By analyzing, I'm not about what shoes did Miles have on, when he played So What, but, I'm more about player's playing/soloing habits - phrasing manners, particular notes emphasis (I know, that Miles was well known for using #11 a lot, sort of trademark of his..) and stuff.. I know, that it is a bit, well, 'special' question, but I hope, that it makes sense in the end.. The problem, I can't find any info on this on the net - if anyone knows any, I'd appreciate it. We, of course, could discuss other players, Miles just one of the those.. Cheers Faith
22. EADG+DG? That's a mad tuning.. I don't see it working very well somehow..
23.
N Got a call this weekend for a quintet with guitar, drums, sax/clarinet, violin and double bass (original jazz/tango/flamenco stuff) so word is out that I am looking for work.
That's nice.. Keep it going, Rob.
24. Nice one, Rob. Sorry for the OT, but, judging from your avatar, you've yet been gigging with double bass?
25. There it goes..
