1. Seriously tempted by one of these anyway, what are they like in real life? I only played the one in the OP and a EURO 5 string. The euro was fantastic, but costs three times more... Also, how would it compare to a warwick corvette of similar price?
 2.
more like Tar O Par !
That sounds like a form of medieval torture...
 3.
Being Northern Irish there are certain words which I just cant pronounce but the thing thats causing me the most problems is saying Tower of Power - I really want to do a cover of" what is hip " but as soon as I say their name the rest of my band start laughing before I can finish the sentence
Slightly worse than the local version "Tooer of Pooer"
 4. Last Saturday I used the CMI Ned Callan, 1971 vintage. One pickup, one vol, one tone, a ton of mahogany (body AND neck!) and a few steel bits. Nothing that could go wrong, so no backup or anything. If you're talking about fear of it getting nicked, well you've got a point. gotta be double careful and don't leave anything lying around...
 5.
FBT are more Pro Audio these days - http://www.fbt.it/
Yeah, FBT now market the Cicognani stuff, which apparently is the "must have" italian boutique guitar amp make. Never used or seen their bass stuff. I had a small and solid FBT bass combo around 1988, left it as payment for practice room fees when I moved to the UK
 6.
But I digress... "caña"... a small beer. My friend is learning Spanish, but still veyr much a beginner. We are in a small local bar with a bunch of my friends, and she wants another beer. She wanted to practice what she was learning, so she asked the waiter in a very loud voice whether he'd refill her "coño". We stopped talking. The waiter, very calmly and naturally replied "I'd be happy to, I finish in two hours". Then the bar erupted in laughter. While "caña" is a small beer, "coño" is slang for female genitalia. She was embarrased at first, but she always drank for free there after that
Classic Also: When Italians talk about the italian amp maker (yellow coned speakers, you know the one), they talk about Mark Bahss, like the delicious (if a little expensive) fish...The potayto-potahto game is truly international, and works both ways.
 7. I wasn't playing in the 70's, but I still own and use a HH vs bassamp (around 1976) and a peavey mark III 400 (1978-9). Both sound interesting and somewhat different, but they really need modern cabs. My earliest memories of kit are full of old italian names, none of which would anything to anyone. Davoli? FBT?
 8.
I quite like not being a biker anymore sometimes so I don't have to hear people trying to say Doo-ka-tee like they're a mafia don. What's wrong with a bit of anglicising? Joocatty's fine for me.
so you won't mind when italian bikers say triumph like tree-oomph
 9.
So how should I say Adidas? In the '70s it was simply ADDY-das, and then sometime (in the '90s? the decades started blurring then) it seemed to become a-DEE-das. And then (in the '00s?) Wikipedia said that it was short for Adi Dasler, so it should be Addy-DAS. Or have I got that all wrong? And, in any case, should I just go and buy Puma instead?
Buy some Asics instead, or Onitsuka Tiger, and let the debate continue Ah seecs? Eysix?
 10.
The one that gets me is Takamine, it is actually pronounced (by the employees themselves!) Tak a me nee. Very odd.
Isn't Takamine a japanese make? I thought that's how you would pronounce the name if it was japanese (I love my languages, me)
 11.
Now, as to les coulis du chien ...
What wrong with my dog's @rse?
 12.
I still say Ah-ghee-lar either way lol Moot point!
I love a good debate, and I also say agheelar. Unless I am trying to buy from someone who pronounces it differently...
 13.
You get the 'yah' with double LL or if the 'L' is followed by an 'A', which is not the case in your examples (Barcelona, Valencia, albondigas, oloroso, etc) It's Ah-ghee-yah
Still unconvinced. when you say "hi" you say "hola", which is not pronounced "hoyah". also, Aguilar looks quite close to aguila, meaning eagle, which is pronounced ah-ghee-lah (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%A1guila) .
 14.
In spanish, it would be Ah-ghee-yah... Like David Villa is pronounced Vee-yah because the 'la' is a 'yah' sound.
I thought that only the double L group ("ll") is pronounced "yah". Single L is pronounced just L, like in Barcelona, Valencia, albondigas, oloroso, etc. I still think it's Ah ghee lar
 15. I thought Aguilar is pronounced Ah-ghee-lar, like it would be in spanish
 16. Found a new example: http://www.guitarvillage.co.uk/productdetail.aspx?pid=12134&product=Spector+Bass+Legend+4+Classic+SL4CLBB%2C+New%2C+Bubinga Looks like £349 is a little too steep...
 17. I've seen this in a shop and it tempts me, but i'm not sure if the price is too steep. It's a Korean Spector Legened 4, bubinga body, BO neck, 2 SSD humbuckers with 2 band active eq. The bass has been "well gigged", it's got a lot of dings and wear, but the neck and frets looks fine and it plays well. I seem to recall that the serial number is 4392, written on the back of the headstock. Any idea what a fair S/H retail price would be for it? It's currently priced at £349
 18. and a really long one, with us improvising a lot to stretch out the set (DJ had a heart attack on the day and couldn't come) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZQyXaL1BKk&feature=youtu.be T40 all the way!
 19. I only have videos of me playing with the band... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqZ4TEzbXVY&feature=share http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUCtJW8CmK8&feature=endscreen&NR=1
 20.
Just wondering why a 'rehearsal studio' would need a 100 watt guitar amp. The loudest guitarist in my band has a 30 watt combo for stage use and the other one uses a 16 watt tiny terror - both plenty loud enough for any pub gig so way over the top for a studio. That said, until recently I've been lugging my stage rig to rehearsals at our normal studio but I've just invested in an Eden E210C - 350watts 2X10 . If you want an idea of what not to put in a rehearsal room, check out the sub station in rosyth. Loads of tired second or third hand crap in there to avoid.
Been unlucky enough to use the substation a few times. I have a soft spot for HH VS Bassamps and 2x15 monoliths though... If I were to pick a bass amp for a practice room, i'd get a hartke ha3500 and a matching 4x10 cab, or even one of their newer lh500 or whatever they're called
 21. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/yamaha-bass-bb-1600/96996965 £200, not mine and can't afford anything just now. I thought these were the older japanese ones, should play a treat if you like the sound!
 22. Cheers nomis, looking forward to playing there! Not looking forward to the 6 hours roundtrip

 24.
Apparently it all goes downhill from 25 - I just tried noiseaddicts and could hear 14khz but not 15khz. I'm 47. http://www.noiseaddi...s-hearing-test/
could hear 15k, 16k was barely audible with a little effort, actually more felt than heard. Nothing on 17k. No echo location for me then
 25. I put some of your recomendations into practice last night, and it was quite a success! Cutting the lows and boosting the mids on the vocals makes a huge difference, to the mix, and we were able to keep the volume higher on them. Also, bass and guitar volumes was strictly monitored, and the drummer used plastic tipped sticks, which also make a difference. All in all, better clarity in the mix, and the singer could hear herself in the quieter and lower bits. Thanks folks, saved us throwing money at the problem!
