1. I use LOTS of effects - This has been discussed so many times that I'm sure it will end up being the same discussion again. It really depends on what you look for in a sound - one man loves a certain fuzz sound and another man may hate it. The sounds you think are nasty may be sounds we love. But also it depends on the music you play. Many bassists don't need them and the music has little space for them. I don't use a clean bass sound anywhere in my set... horses for courses.
Why does no-one make a tap-tempo chorus? Surely that'd get rid of the nasty out-of-time wobbles.
Moog Cluster Flux
2. I mentioned to them that they coul really do with some audio and they seemed to think that was a mammoth task. I suggested I'd do a review/demo and they seemed quite excited about it. I'm sure the octave up stuff will sound great - the octave down will be the telling point!
3. There are no samples at the mo. I'll do some when it arrives.
4. They all go on eBay at £55 each - but they offered me them at $60 each if I ordered 4 plus $36 shipping. Worked out at £44 each inc postage. Me and Ant had 2 each.
5.
That Mooer looks really interesting, I wonder if they could do me a momentary version so I can pitch up an octave, like the Boss T-Bar/S-Bend feature. Hmmm Si
I'm sure Max could mod that pretty easy!
6.
ah i see! i had a look at them this morning, didnt have time to check out the samples!looking at so much stuff at the minute! did you have to order them from the states? andy
Mooer are Chinese - I emailed and ordered direct from them.
7. It's pretty big. The Eventide won't be a perminant feature though - just for this gig and only for whammy style stuff. I'm going to add a Mooer Pitch Box which is tiny for the 2 octave up stuff...
8. There's a seller on eBay that is the Chinese stockest but having spoke with their sales manager is seems they currently only have 3 stockists and none in Europe... So either eBay or buy direct if you are buying 4 or so of them... I'll let you know how they are when they arrive.
9. My drummer is away all week and we got asked to open for a friends band - so I suggested I did an improv leve Dubstep/wobble set with their drummer and a few MC's. They went for it! So this is my mini set up for Fridays improv show... Wobble tastic!
10.
Very cool, make sure you let us know how much it goes for! Would someone mind telling me the difference between 'latching' and 'momentary' aswell as providing a couple of examples so I can go and have a look on YouTube or something please? Cheers! Alex
Alex, Quite simply... Latching is one press to turn on and one to turn off - like pretty much every pedal you own. Non-latching or momentary is only on while you hold the switch down. Shep
11. Ant on here has an Exho baby and he raves about it. Me and Ant have just ordered a pair of these Mooer pedals each - I emailed them direct and bluntly asked for discount if we bought 4 pedals direct. They were so excited they bit my hand off!! We have a Pitch Box and a ShimVerb each on the way. Glad to hear they are quite good for what they are. There were some great bits of feedback about the Mooer stuff from NAMM this year so I'm looking forward to seein what they can do at under £50 a pedal. Shep
12. I know I dont get that either. Having played with the original... I prefer the Whammy IV! though the cut of top end from the entire Whammy range does my head in. Eventide is amazing - but again, expensive!
13. Main chain... Here - http://www.sheponbass.co.uk/blog/2012/3/30/my-signal-chain-explained.html I use it for everything I used the Whammy for, plus a shed load more. The 2 octave upsound in the vid is not clean bass, it's the chain of effects I detailed above. I just turn the Pitchfactor on or off going into an out of that section of the track.
14. Eventide Pitchfactor swelling up 2 octaves. The effects being used dint change though. Sounds pretty much identical to the +2 oct on the Whammy IV though (I A/B'd them!). It's OC2 - Geiger Counter - (Pitchfactor when I swell up) - Moog ring mod - Moog cluster flux - TC Nova delay.
15. Yeah - I've seen this discussed before. He buys them and sells them on and is allowed to use the name if I recall correctly. The Japanese stores won't ship internationally so he buys the stuff in person and then sells them on. If you google 'Human Gear Effects Germany' or similar you'll likely find discussion over it. Should be perfectly legit. Shep
16. And the rest of the vids from the night (use good speaker/headphones - it's a tad too low for most laptop speakers!)... 17.
wish i could've been there. keep 'em coming !
Cheers Si! I think we have another 4 tracks recorded from that night. I'll pop the rest in the 'Drum'N'Bass/Dubstep' thread in the effects forum so as not too offend too many people's ears! Shep
18. Video from last Friday's show... The place was so packed that people were outside watching through the window! We announced to the place that it was an 'open mic' and so the crowd of people in front of the stage basically passed a pair of mic's around and freestlyed. Thankfully we had some seriously local HipHip royalty in the house (Duke01, Jaws & Young Chris from Great Scott, Bru-C, MotorMouf… plus a dozen odd guys we had never met!). There are a few of these vid's to come...

20. Moved to the right forum (posted in effects discussion).
21. Well - I have a very supportive wife who wants me to do music. I now work part-time with her support (mentally and financially), which gives us time to do all rehearsing and practising as Our Helical Mind during the daytimes during the week. That means no rehearsals in the evenings. We tend to gig infrequently but hype and promote the shows a lot. This has worked well for us. We never play in our home town more than once every 2 months so people really want to come out again. Maybe 2 shows a month max around the UK... Often just one show. It means we concentrate on making the material amazing and never play anything that isn't bang on - also it means we spend so much time bouncing stuff off each other that when we do live improv' it just feels natural. I'd like to gig more - but this works for us. So except for the odd gig, I tend to have all my evenings free to spend with the wife/do other hobbies/write the blog etc. The Blog is taking a lot of time since the interviews have taken off and I haven't spent a whole day with my good lady in a few weeks... But as we spend most evenings together it works. While I 'work' part time, it's to make something of music so I do something every day... Either my actual job, or playing music, or writing the blog. It's full on - but in a motivating/non-pressured way.
22. The theory was to have something that I could recreate familiar tones and textures, but take to a gig with my bass on my back and pedal board in hand an use another bands rig (currently I only ever use my own rig due to the huge sub octave I run... I'd hate to damage other people's gear). This set up is without the parallel octave split too. I'm quite excited about this
23. SOLD to the man above!
24. Dude - you kill me with some of these basses. I LOVE these!!!
25.
I think I could almost understand this one. Maybe. On a good day.
Ha. This is fairly simple - actually you'll see my large board is going through a streamlining process too at the mo (though it'll take some weeks to complete).
