1. There appears to be a theme emerging with the genres being used , this is worrying me a touch as I was thinking along the same lines and it might leave my efforts a touch 'exposed'. Still , I have a couple of days to warm my voice up while HID is away , be afraid , very afraid
2. I'm pretty happy at the moment , I dont play that well , I dont sing at all well , I don't have a great knowledge of recording and I am not a particularly good songwriter .....But I play gigs in a half decent band and publish a song most months, most importantly, I love doing it , and that is all that matters .
3. That sounds fantastic and a great write up too.
4.
Presumably his Bach is worse than his Beethoven.
Especially if pronounced in your darn sarf cockerney accent , me old trout and toolbox
5.
What is wrong with saying the guy playing bass for you all night is called Tim?
Our bands bass player isn't called Tim , so it might not work for us
6.
I can envisage "woohoo" Blur type stuff, sad songs about the death of a dog, free jazz epics celebrating the randomness of snow drifts, struttin' disco grooves about "having a good time, all the time" (copyright Spinal Tap!), or acoustic ballads about being scared stupid!
On seeing that video my thoughts turned to the theme of your latest one , however , taking it a step further and sh****g ones self good and proper !
7. Well done Lenny dude , a great track , really enjoyable , well done to everyone else as well .
8. Many thanks Douglas , it's a bit like you were in my head with that synopsis !!
9.
If there was payment agreed, I'd be Demanding payment. They booked a band & never gave adequate notice. I'd email both the landlord & copy in the brewers. If they fob you off, then as a BC collective, we could book every weekend as different bands to cover the next several months & then give notice the day before to them that the band can't make it. See the boot on the other foot.
Or order a humongous round of drinks and quietly walk out
10. Great gig last night in Buckley there were a bunch of girls dancing on the tables from the first song, it was a real party. As a bonus I collected about 30 empty bottles which is enough to sort out my next batch of homebrew
11.
I love the Internet Check this out: http://www.sfxmachine.com/tppro/ PS: I am in no way affiliated with this product.
Quality, I think I will get that on Friday when I get my expenses through !
12. I fear there is a link there Paul ....my computer has stopped showing embeded ones , I think I shall wait till my dinner settles before I work out whether to try and sort the issue
13. This has come around quick this month ! Brilliant stuff again everyone , I would like to come second this month please as I already have the Supercharger , it is my go to plug in for applying the turd polish and glitter:) I am pretty sure if someone created a plug in called 'Turd Polisher' it would get used every month by me
14. I think mine is as good as it will get from me now , so along with sleeve notes I will offer up https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/aunty-cyclone Hope you enjoy
15. I can turn all the auto tune off mine now , the warbler has done a job on it !! I'll try and mix it later and see what I have got to put up
16. Well , having played my tune to the bands warbler, he said he would be happy to do a vocal for me , though it does mean I ought to treat the lyric with a little more respect now , I can probably add a little more gravitas if a proper singist does it, rather than the pisstake that I would normally write to distract the ear from my tonal mugging
17. well after some noodling this afternoon , I have made a good start , the basic track is recorded , rough mixed and ready for the vocal , I am trying to secure the service of the bands warbler for this , Lurksalittle has had a stab , but it needs a bit of learning so I dont want to push her on this one. If it has to be me , it will be, and the glitter will have to make an appearance to roll the whole thing in .
18. I have a customer who runs the Airbus overseas repairs department , apparently this sort of thing happens quite a lot, vehicles driving into planes, plane wings clipping thing they shouldn't , they actually have permanent departments in some of the bigger airports around the world because it is so common !
19. We had a good night last night, a 50th party which we offered at a discount as rhythm guitar broke his wrist and when we booked it wasnt sure if he would be able to play it. Lead guitar has stepped up for a few gigs and we have coped but the sound is not quite the same. As it happens , rhythm guitar was back in action , but lead didn't exactly give him the (sonic) room I was hoping he would, as he has got the taste of playing a few more chords than he used to ! Still, the party went well , everyone was happy and to cap it off the bloke who booked us gave us the full fee even though we didnt ask him for it , so Result all round
20.
Perhaps with all this serious, dangerous storm stuff I should defintely re-think my flatulence angle... And just as I'd made it into a cautionary tale á la Struwwelpeter!
I think the dangerous storm stuff and the back story has made it a bit dark for me , so I took a left turn with the thinking to lighten it up a bit , so while not quite a flatulence wind issue , it will have found an angle I can move forward with
21. I am really slow this month , I have had an odd start to this month and I have started a new build kitchen extension , so finding a couple of hours for inspiration has not proved enough , I normally faff around on the piano and guitars until something clicks , but nothing yet , never say never though
22. We played a regular haunt for us and were a bit surprised when we got there to find only the bar staff there on Saturday, they informed us that the night before had seen a bit of a brawl with a round 20 youngsters kicking off big time and that they suspected that many of the locals would be giving the place a miss for a while. Having been assured the gig was still a payer and that if it was just for the bar staff they would love it, we set up. the first people to come in were the wife and the sister in law at 9.15 , and then a few more and by 9.30 we had around 30 turn up , mostly regulars who new we were on. Any way , we had a party , we were all on fire and played well , had some great craic with those that turned up and everyone went home happy , even the landlord, though he couldn't have covered our cost , he was happy to not have had a completely empty pub!
23. When I was 15 I had a bet with a mate at school for a tenner that I would play Knebworth before I turned 50 , we met up a couple of years ago and are now playing double or quits up to my 60th , with a side bet on him getting an exhibition at the Tate , so I ain't giving up yet
24. Well done Skol a great work amongst a fair few great works this month
Chomping at the bit, eh..?
I am always keen to get my thinking head on , so yes I am chomping away now
25.
The trombone solo in 'Beds Are Burning' is done by our singer, for instance, with no trombone, just vocalising. We don't have a string section or keys, either, so we adapt. No-one gets hurt, normally, and folks enjoy the result, so... There is even scope sometimes (often..?) for doing better than the original, in the context of one's own band.
We do 'beds are burning' currently most gigs , I didnt realise we were missing a trombone
