Play of the Day, Basschat Composition Challenge, February...
lurksalot replied to Dad3353's topic in General Discussion
Ah yes , but if you start spilling the beans about which reverb you used on the bagpipes and banjos , you can imagine how crestfallen I would be when my own piece was also about to be a bagpipe and banjofest , and you would do it a million times better , so I would have to completely rethink my ideas especially if Dad is colouring me into a hippy at the same time -
Play of the Day, Basschat Composition Challenge, February...

My thoughts would be that I wouldn't want to read anybody elses inspiration and ideas before I had been having a good go at my own , the likes of Douglas have a completed product before I have got my idea together , and I wouldn't want to be have any of my thoughts coloured IYSWIM . that sounds terribly precious but its not meant to be -

Great idea Dad , I am not sure which way to go on this , but maybe on the challenge thread would be best , and without any real rules but maybe post during the voting period and put another link to the composition in the 'process' posting for ease of access ? -
I got up early to give them all a good listening , and I am again astonished at the quality of the entries , the compositions themselves are all brilliant , I have been forced to set up a scoring system, as a general appreciation of how much I like them just doesn't provide enough differentiation , the production on many is outstanding, and while I don't include a score for that , it certainly sets more levels to aspire to . ed to add Ive voted , a great way to start a sunday , brilliant

Wow , I humbled by your kind words Douglas , many thanks. I will add to the others that find your reviews to be so insightful, perceptive and a darn good read -
It's a great all-round mic
I've got one aswell , it is superb , but if your missus is stirring the tea in the kitchen , you will probably pick it up on the mic

It depends on how much and how quick you want to proceed , the keyboard is for MIDI work , the monitors are ok , but not necessarily essential. If it is instruments and singing ( maybe virtual drum samples) then the 2i2 is a great little bit of kit and you will need a mic or two. A MIDI keyboard will be great for virtual plug in instruments , pianos , synths and orchestra parts , but you will need to get these aswell , some are free loads can be bought . If you are wanting to dive in and do the lot then the bundle is probably decent value. My own route was to start very basically with the interface and a mic , then added the MIDI and finally the monitors , but even then my room is not really sound treated to make the best use of the monitors , so its mainly headphones .

A great gig in the Olde Kings Head in Chester. Our Rhythm guitar broke his wrist in January so we were light handed , lead guitar played a blinder covering and I found a few patches to stomp on for his solos to fill out a bit more. By all counts it was a really good night , Rhythm guitar fronts the band so he still did, but had had a few beers unlike when he plays and his banter was fantastic, 2 more dates back there and 2 parties booked on the night, I didnt overly cock too much up, so a result all round.

How The Beatles still grip Liverpool ...
Maybe my perspective is just dated and pointless.Maybe I live in the past like my kids tell me. " Dad,it's not 1965 " And I like you guys and I hate being a dick bag. Humor an old guy, maybe that's the answer. Blue
Dude let it go , you tell us you are not old , but age is not in the body , its in the attitude. A guy once told me, that if someone tells you that they know best about something because they have been experienced in it for 50 years, the chances are that it was one years experience that is 50 years old. Grow young again and let other stuff have a chance to influence you the same as that experience did. -
Hey Dude is on my favourites playlist , just superb

I have a few cheap basses that look quite good hung on the wall , SWMBO likes the look of them so thats OK , but my regular gigging basses are Spector and they serve me well and they pay for themselves . TC electronic amp and cabs now , lightweight , great sound and I gig them and they pay for themselves That does me I think ....for now

I first came here when I found a cab advertised that I was after , and now I cant get away ... ed for loads of stuff I was posting in the wrong thread !! -
I can see why some of you chose this stay home option. It's less work. I say if you don't like gigging your really not in this. Blue
Got to be honest Blue , but your posts come across like you are actually trying to convince yourself that you need to keep gigging dude

I think it's great , music production is very new to me , and soundcloud suits it . It does surprise me that while originally I had a certain amount of 'time' to use , it does seem to have increased the allowance without asking for the subscription that it suggested was necessary
-
Ok I'm in , a bit of a cheat on the production and playing , but thanks to Lenny and Dr J for their input , It shouldn't scare you too much . I got some friends and colleagues to do some shouting aswell https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/acacapulco
-
we have a few genres grouped together , so we have some punk stuff , modernish rock , clasic rock , dance , a couple of anthem styles , and some slower ones , we try to revolve them a bit and have 5 or 6 that can be used in each 'genre' , all the while trying hard not to play summer of 69 !
Is there a plugin to get 100 synchronised swimmers in your mix?
well if they are very good synchronised swimmers , they will only sound like one big swimmer
-
mines close now , I put a call out for some shouty bits and got some , great sports on here its all in pretend music mode using midi/sequencers and drum machines but some big voicy shouty bits that give the theme , I have a few more shouts to add and the effect will be complete and ready to post, then I will listen in to the others
-
I reckon your style will carry it dude , no problem. If its a touchy feely thing with the guitar , then talking to him would soon get the answer you need , I'm guessing he would be cool with it our next few gig are without our rhythm guitarist , well he has broken his wrist quite badly , so his input will be down to BV's and dancing around like a fat Bezz , he's cool with that as well
-
In fact I have even had another idea , if anyone passing through this thread wants to contribute to mine , send me a PM and I'll drop an idea past you , no singing involved , just recording a few shouty words

Lol

I can hear the high pitch cat scarers that some people put across their gardens , I don't know what frequency or volume it is , but considering most of the people who put them there can't hear them I was pretty pleased with that !!
-
I have found an angle for this one now , not toooo many lyrics , but I am hoping that I will get an ensemble , so anyone who even walks past the house too near to the door is going to get a microphone up close and personal like
My Mom passed at 84 years of age. She knew more about Rock and Roll than me. She never got old. Old is a state of mind. I would bet there are 30 something's here older than me by my definition. Blue

Guys, I'm not old, I'm merely older. I'll never be old. Blue

Not for some of us 4 Sting. Rock & Roll ,playing bass and gigging is it for me.I have zero interest in anything else. I've always been this way. Blue
The way you describe this is almost the definition of old , to me keeping young is all about an open mind, a willingness to do different things , enjoy a load of challenging experiences, jump out of your comfort zone , feel alive doing something else once in a while , you might even surprise yourself
