1.
Bash newbies, feel free to click on my bass blog link in my signature, and you'll see what really happens at a bash.
Uh Oh , I am not sure it is going to be as organised as some of them look Sylvia One day we may attract some superstars of the Bass playing world but, as an inaugural event , we do have the uber-talented, multple BC composition winning , recordist extraordinaire and song writing impressario that is ........ SKOL So there
2. WE have the room from 12 till 6 I would imagine that 6 hours might be a tad over the top for the gathering so I would suggest from 1.00 till you've had enough. Myself and Funkgod can get there a touch earlier to make sure all is good , then all may arrive as they wish. The room has very close parking round the back for a couple at a time or a short walk through the club corridor , I'll bring a sack truck to let people use if they find the need, Dont forget an extension cable and a tenner , and all will be good , I have lanyards and name tags done , I have written your BC name on them and left room for you to put your real name if you wish , though I have done Les , Josie, Owen and Vinny quite big , so there might not be enough room for their real names

5.
Well done to Lurksalot, well done me, well done everyone else!! I thought my effort was a bit rubbish this time, all felt a bit half hearted when I did it!. I genuinely was not expecting this one to be so well liked, so thanks to everyone who voted ! I officially nominate, and will be more than happy for Lurksalot to choose the next pic, as I am much better at being inspired than trying to inspire others to be fair! Cheers, James
many thanks and well done James , I will find a picture tout-suite , you can ignore the PM I sent earlier asking if you wanted to choose a pic
6. Many thanks all for taking part and for the voters , a splendid performance on both counts . As wt midnight , close of play , I am humbled to announce that joint winners with a very close run challenge , are myself and Bleat . We shall confer on a photo and I will post February's thread this evening
7. Welcome to the forums Pat the gig is a get together with kit , so it will probably be a bash Its under the NW bass Bash , pinned at the top of the events forum
8. Just to add , 28 voters in total at time of posting is fantastic, thanks for all your support , I really hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoy making it
9. Each month I see the picture and want to write and record the best rock song in the world ,ever, then I actually start work on it and sods law means it takes a different direction. Being fairly unimaginative , I tend to find lyrics help me to describe a scene , but being a God awful singer means that sometimes I have to draw quite deeply on my ability to say 'WTF' Equipment is sparse , focusrite 2i2, microphone, bass, guitar and/or a digital piano that gives me some different sounds or midi. EZ drummer and a few plug ins. One of the drivers for me is the excuse to actually do it, I have always believed I can write the best song in the world , it's just that I now realise that it is going to take a bit of practice , and the monthly deadlines means that the focus all brings the day that I will At some point have the ability, to tell the story in my own words and music that I need to tell . I only ever first used a DAW to join in with this challenge after a month or two of it starting , and now I have recorded nearly 50 tracks , incredible really , I love it
10. Ok , we'll call it a tenner , this does have at least one advantage... I haven't got to bring 25 £2 coins with me
11. Brilliant work again gentlemen , a great listen through
12. A quick heads for you all with regards the cost of the event . After Chris's negotiations we can confirm that with drinks (tea and coffees) and a light sandwich buffet included the cost will be £8.00 a head which is payable on the day in coin of the realm please This should cover contingencies and might leave a little left for a donation or to help fund future events . There is a bar if anyone wishes to order any other drinks or meals as required. We would suggest everyone bring their own needs in the way of sockets and an extension lead , we may need to do a bit of daisy chaining around the hall. Any other ideas , suggestions or questions just fire them out and we will have a look at them , though as an initial meetup we are hoping to keep this as simple as possible but take some feedback after the event to get a feel of how it goes . Many thanks Lurks

14. I am hesitant to offer much input here because the idea hasn't grabbed me from day 1, only for the reason that I rarely find the interest in solo bass playing, whether that be some of the 'greats' showing their chops or some simple riff work or noodles, the quality of the playing is irrelevant it is just something that doesn't float my boat. I think a noodle thread for both the production and the discussion seems an obvious choice , for the input of the time and energy to collate and post the poll in regard of a challenge would need to be based on more interest and involvement. I think Twincams passion for the thing is commendable , it just needs a consistent handful to join the fold and it would generate the interest better.
15. we'll see what nexts months comp brings and if it guitars I might invest in 2nd Gen one myself
16.
You are on fire.
Many thanks , you are too kind , can I admit to having a little chuckle at that
Did I hear a bit of your own type of 'Major Tom' going on there ?
Not deliberately , but if it works I will claim subliminal impulses for the inspiration and claim otherwise
17.
Hoping to make this as fairly sure I'm around that weekend PS: don't really have any interesting gear to bring, but happy to bore the pants off people about music production or run a short "idiot's guide to home recording", given that I myself am a qualified idiot.
That sounds an excellent idea Buddy , and on a similar note , the bash isn't restricted to those bringing gear, everyone is quite welcome to come along as a meet up with your fellow BC'ers. Chris (Funkgod) has been in negotiations with the venue to provide a simple sandwich buffet and a supply of teas and coffees , we will hope to put it all together and come up with a cost per head , but it will be at most £10 , and that will probably leave a few pennies in the kitty for subsequent bashes or get togethers or a donation to a worthy cause. Ped has kindly donated BC lanyards for the event so we should be able to hang our names around our necks to identify each other, I think Skol is generally the one with the red carnation though
18.
i got something, though not what i originally intended. with kit going wrong and my room really not being cut out for mic recording i had to lean rather heavily on the keyboard and bass. so i ended up with a bit of soundtrack rather than the folky type thing i started with. i wanted to something in open C tuning, which fits the wild west idea in many ways. but mic recordings were awful and full of other noise and plugging it in has this annoying popping sound. anyway, as its soundtrack allow me to set the scene. it is supposed to fit the cowboy coming home after weeks of travelling. so as he clears the ridge in the picture he sees his homestead with his family running around. maybe a little soppy but that is what went through my mind as i was building it up and i dont think its a million miles off. it is short but hopefully has enough going on to not be too repetitive. i am just happy to get something done in the midst of moving house and things. https://soundcloud.c...o-the-homestead
I must have been through a 'cup half empty' phase as I saw the complete opposite I thought it was another day out the wilderness and he had had enough of it
19. Excellent news Dad, improvement is the main thing, It might be worth giving mine a miss then this month , it is a touch rushed It does what I wanted it to though so good luck .... https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/back-on-my-pony
20.
I Dream of Jeannie - as borrowed by DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince in Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble? https://www.youtube....h?v=IOaFh-yJk_k
I love you Mike , I dream of Jeannie perfect , I got a few of the pictures in my head about right , pretty girls well 1 at least , early colour about right , set in florida 'Cocoa Beach' which fits the coast idea . I was reasonably good with the visualisation , many thanks
21. Dean Martin , mambo italiano ish , but with no vocal , that sort of era maybe .
22. Thanks but its not whats in my head . Its particularly the chorus that reminds me of an instrumental theme which puts pictures of the south of France or the Italian coast with open top sports cars and pretty girls , I dont know why , maybe I am always thinking of that image Possibly early colour film type genre, I could be well wide of the mark but an old tune is definitely there
23. this pop tune 'after the after party' it is fairly recent, but the melody strikes me as something from a 60's or 70's tv program or film , for the life of me I cant identify it . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM33anTtEVE can anyone put me out of my misery please
24. Its not just the music though is it . If your front man and band engages the audience you can play any tune you want , you will have them onside , put on a show, throw some lights at it , look interested and make like you want to be there and you can play the same set as the next band , but its a totally different experience
25.
I was just reviewing my Soundlcoud page and realised that there are at 30 compositions on there that would not have been written were it not for these challenges. The quality is distictly variable, of course, but the learning has been invaluable. One wonders how many tunes have been written across the Basschat fraternity because of this. Whoever had the idea for this thread is a frickin' genius.

couldnt agree more, getting involved with this little challenge has given me a reason to write things. i have been messing for years for my own pleasure but it was mostly just putting ideas in the bank for possible future use. having a definitive focus is great and has pushed me to get a better understanding of my gear and to try out some different genres. as is evidenced by my entries i still have loads to learn but i am a lot happier to try. for someone who doesnt play in bands and has no wish to gig its great for my efforts to have a point beyond getting ideas out of my head only to sit gathering digital dust in some forgotten hard drive folder.
Absolutely, 46 tracks from me , that has just amazed me , before I started playing with this challenge I had never even used a DAW ! a MASSIVE thank you to everyone who has/is participating, for all the encouragement , support and even as simple as being the audience for the work that gets produced. This is an incredible journey and long may it continue to inspire people like me who start without a clue, but just getting the confidence to make music and publish it is truly fantastic.
