This always confused me. Mr Wyn ( he makes some incredible instruments) dropping pieces of wood on the floor to demonstrate how they sound. ? They are all different shapes and sizes.erm, they are going to sound different. Im sure different wood have different tonal vibrational qualities but surely his method does not really add up.? . Then you add different structural methods/pickups, etc etc. To add to this complexity guys like Mr Wyn add even more woods to mix with other woods. Skip to 4.20 .

It will always be the sum of the parts. Way too many variables to nail any conclusions down.

When I see some Custom Shop Fenders go for well over £3000 I'm a little miffed. Then I see a Lakland 5594 deluxe go for a little over half the price. I know what instrument I would choose.I really don't get the high end Fender basses market. Im not even sure how the Fender brand is so well regarded in the high end market.. .Especially at the Custom shop pricing. Ive played and owned quite a few custom shop Fenders and I still dont get it. Compared to the basses I've owned like Sadowsky, Suhr, Sei, Shuker, Fender dont come close . I would hold up a £1500 Maruszczyk to any CS Fender. IMO. They do the sub £1000/£2000 market well. But 0ver £4000/£5000 even £7000 for a new custom shop fender. in my mind the brand doesn't carry that much worth. only my opinion of course

Too be honest, they were brilliant song writers. They created some of the greatest dance records.

Im wondering what other peoples experiences are with these two types of pickups. Im talking of Jazz type pickups of course. Every time I have a split (hum cancelling) set in a jazz bass they seem to sound a little dull. Im aware of why but my ears may be different to others. I had an MIJ Fender jazz with a pair of single coils and it sounded amazing. Im not sure I like the hum cancelling sound of hum free Jazz pickups, they seem to lack something like the sparkle, blah blah. Im literally about to pull the trigger on some Aguilar AG 4J 70s pickups. Everything Aguilar I've owned ive loved. Any experience/thoughts would be welcome on these pickups or general. Any other pickups I should consider.? BTW. The bass is a Jazz bass with pickups in the 70's position..

Sorry ive only just noticed what i asked for was wrong. I meant the wire that connects the pickups to the preamp.?. Yes im an idiot.
