Got the notes, got the speed, got the groove. Just can't seem to keep it going for what feels like 20 minutes. Ha ha.
Just from interest, Leschirons, im sure you know, but are you using the open string notes on Colibri? if not tis tricky otherwise..By the way, anyone who likes this stuff should check out a band called...'The Rebirth.'. aband from NYC..believe me these guys are good.. One of those albums that there is not bad song on...
2. I agree, Bass Collection are better basses, great pickups..
3.
Being an Anthony Jackson fanboy, I'd recommend checking out all the albums he did with Chaka Khan (Chaka, What 'Cha Gonna Do For Me, Naughty). Naughty in particular has some incredible lines on most of the tracks, which is probably due to the fact that Jackson spent a number of months composing his bass lines after the other parts had already been tracked. Regarding the Ain't Nobody part, it took me many hours of trying to get those octaves consistent in terms of volume, attack and note length before the part sounded remotely correct in a band context. It's a deceptively easy sounding tune, but trying to recreate parts produced by machines takes a lot of work - especially for drummers!
+1000..Naughty is her best.. and everything on it..Marcus, Anthony, Stevens, my fave.. W,Weeks,.. albums like this dont come around very often, and probably never will again,,.. with likes of the Brecker Bros too.!!!.Move Me no Mountain..WOW..!! Bar Innervisions,.and 'TheNight Fiy' this is as good as it gets IMHO.. Jackson was a real perfectionist of his craft, sometimes to paranoia. ..his playing is incredible!!! but im not sure if he caused himself more stress than he needed to...maybe thats just his personality, and the way he worked?? Fantastic though..like i said i cant imagine music like this coming around in the near future!?
4. I do apologise, i meant to reply to Oscars post but ive been a tit and dont know how to delete. Please Admins!!??
5. i only read the bits of this post Oscar (ok just the best bits) but it seems to me that the bass is only another small part in the evolution of music....every instrument gets 'its moment' in the bigger picture..for some reason in our modern times, (which i happen to think is the lack of appreciation of the lower register of sound in popular music) happens to be the Electric Bass).. I have always been a fan of the unsung hero of music from Willie Weeks, to Poogie Bell. Soloing is great.!!! in the right context...but i love the fact that the Electric Bass is there in the back, holding everthing together.. In my opinion, thats what makes us special.!!!.the fact that we think about the whole picture... while the guitarist is thinking about himself..(excuse my pigeons) Lets face it, in this multiple choice we call music, anything is possible..maybe what we choose is leftfield, or of the masses, but its all about the music. like Grace Jones said..im a slave to the music
6. I know tihis is opinion of course, and im prob ignorant of a few, but Pino is thought of by many as the best session's bass player, playing today..ermm Anthony Jackson said so..and i think so too... I can listen to his fretless playing all day long..he shows his true layed back form on Dangelo and Roy Hargrove playing..there are a few who will back me up on this forum for sure.. for his bass mind,. i dont think there are any better in the world. But i will say that Julian Crampton and Randy 'Hope' Taylor dont get enough respect,, these guys are in another world..
7.
Out of them all, I think Incognito rein supreme. Fantastic band live and they always deliver every time I see them (which has been quite a few times). Their last album (Tales from the Beach) is a cracker. A couple of spin offs worthy of a listen are the Satya Project album 'Shine a Light' and the Inner Shade album '4 Corners'. Cheers, Jim
Jim im glad u said Inner Shade,, tis great album..Yeah Tales from the beach is a cracker, Julian Crampton's bass work on the title track is great..Dont know if u know, but bluey has an album out with Tony Remy called First Protocal, Also u may want to listen to the All Star Collective and Real People, who i think he produced... check it out..He seems to do alot of spin off bands like that..Havent heard of Satya Project, will check it out thankyou... And yes the best band ive ever seen live, Bluey a very nice man too..
8. Hey...just having an evening of ninties jazz funk and soul..(with a few friends) after loosing Young Disiples, "road to freedom" ages ago, i bought this great album once again, what a fantastic album.. also artists i love, such as Urban Species, Omar, Galliano, Vibraphonic, Carleen Anderson, Brand New Heavies, Di influence, Raw Stylus. Cant forget the master, Bluey,.. and his band of Incognito musicians!! Anyone dig any of these??
9.
I believe Alleva-Coppolo basses are made to order, are expensive and take over a year to make. Second hand, they are rare but few do come up on their web site. TB has a thread about them and the only one I've seen in the UK is owned by Paul Turner. Are they worth the hype??
would love to play one!! the electronics should be something special to beat a Sadowsky metro at AC prices.. I honestly dont think they can be that far superior to an RV5 in the build quality stakes..
10. Hey Chris,, what 5 you got ur eye on?..there is a beautifull NYC standard in stock at Sadowsky..number 5193..WOW..if i could i would!!
11. Yes Josh, but i like to play before i buy..i dont know anywhere in the uk that i could try one out..allways wondered why there so expensive..they cant be that much better than an RV5, maybe im wrong..
12. Hey people..has anyone played an Alleva Coppolo, i would like to try out a 5 string, but have never come across one..they are very expensive!! and was wondering if they are that much better than my Sadowsky. I also love the look of Low End jazzes...Has anyone noticed that the Logo on the headstock of Lowend basses is taken from the Average White band logo?! Never seen an AC on here.. Any experiences???
13. Oh my word....very very nice....how does the GB compare with the jazz??
14.
That's a really nice looking instrument! I looked up the company when you mentioned you'd bought it yesterday, but couldn't find anything on the maker at all. Rich.
Yeah me too Rich..couldnt find a sausage..I may ring the Gallery and and ask there, maybe they know more? Its allways nice to know the history of your instrument..
15. See porn..
16. Recieved this today, and i must say it has a KILLER tone!!!! Its an Ostinato Jazz, Alder body, Tulipwood top, birdseye maple neck and headstock,Rosewood board.. Shaller tuners...Emg Pick ups, Aguilar pre amp..18v power.. Bloody love it... The tone is very very punchy, with loads,.. and i mean loads of growl.(much more than my 75 RI) and bright, but can be very different with a bit of tweaking.. This is the best jazz ive played..Period!!
