Because the amount of time and skill involved in making them and the quality of the materials used .
sorry but there is lots of skill involved in and rare materials used in lots of high end bass makers... alot of instrument manufacturers rely on there brand name and what famous players use there instruments.. fodera are the most obvious example... they seem to think they can charge twice as much as luthiers like Martin Peterson, Nordstrand, sadowsky... imo its a bit of a piss take.. A Sei or Nordstrand bass is easily as well made as an alembic, alleva, or fodera.. but strangely they seem to inflate there prices... lets face it the market for electric basses is so over engineered its silly, what with zero frets, through body stringing etc...... its nothing to with how the audience will appreciate the sound, its more to do with the bassist that plays it.. dont get me wrong i love playing a well made instrument, but there is a limit (imo) to what you can pay, to get very well made instrument that will give you optimum performance.. when you get to prices like 4/5000 its just over priced.. but i guess you pays your money you take your choice i would still love an Alembic Rouge 5 though.. incredible instrument

obviously not the original bass line (not sure who played the original) but Sharay is smokin on this.. his fills, note choices and timing are just off the wall.. he plays it perfectly...

imo..you wont find another MIJ 75 ri jazz bass like this, unless you know something i dont know.. its a very rare bass guitar......im still after a five string Lakland 55-02 deluxe, or another 5 string jazz bass... this bass is a non export 75 reissue... there are very few of these basses around as it has 70's pickup spacing. ive not seen another with this option.... it has an ash body with a really nice grain.. the tone of this bass is amazing.. its the best jazz bass tone ive ever heard, pure 70's jazz bass, very marcus miller.... very thin neck at the nut.. there are no dings that i can see on this bass.. ive played this bass alot so the neck has lost its gloss, which i like myself..... im not just after a 55, a nice JO5 would be good.. this is as close to real 75 jazz as you can get imo... sorry but pics to follow as im trying to work out my new camera.. i wont be long with them.. sorry have mentioned i will ONLY trade... please dont ask me for a sale price unless its a thousand pounds...

im posting for two reasons.. the frickin awsome bass playing on these tracks, and the tracks i dont yet know that im hoping you dudes are gonna post.. this is possibly the some of the best bass playing ive ever heard, willie weeks is on fire on this track.. no flash though, just total groove.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE my second bassline favorite is so embedded into my brain.. imo, its a perfect bass line.. he plays it so so well.......... like alot of bass lines i love, bar the first and third and forth of my posts, there is not alot going on.. but its played with so much good taste.. i think marcus miller is master at this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNj9bXKGOiI this bass playing by ernie mckone is just incredible.. ive seen him play and he has a really lazy technique, god knows how he does what he does... his note choices and groove are epic.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZbAauYiNoc just incredible bass lines to compliment the chords.. jamerson was just the master at doing this style of playing.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiLxbGJ84Co
McCartney was very much influenced by Jamerson. He introduces the songs on the CD that acompanies the tribute book about Jamerson, called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown".
the dvd is great.. meshel ndegeocello is on it as well as the greats that made up that killer band..

i was just listening to this tune with a drummer friend of mine... he has no idea who donny hathaway is or willie weeks is.... but he stopped me and asked me who the bass player was.. of course i said it was willie weeks on donny hathaways classic.. he was amazed by the bass line, as ive always been... anyways, its a phenominal bass line... imo.. one of the best ive ever heard.... too be honest donny's voice is the best voice ive ever heard.. pure gospel power and control... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE
