1.
So nobody listened to Mud, Bay City Rollers or David Cassidy...
i did dude.
2.
Neither for me. I don't think either are grooving hard. I find the timing issues and the horrible bass tone in the Meshell vid too much to bear. Love Tamas' tone but the groove is not syncopated and I found it boring, but as he said it's just a sound clip. I know this is a well known vid, but if you want a wonderful thrilling groove and thrilling playing .. But it's also a nice tune with rich harmony, both the vids in the OP have neither.
how good is that !!!. his fill after 2.00 is just great. never seen groove playing quite like it, his note choices are superb… this vid should be a sticky of how groove should be played. imo one of the best bass players in the world. dare i say it , even Pino would hear him play and say WOW. THAT MAN KNOWS HIS THEORY.!!! good call Nige.
3. had a huge crush on her and her music, and imo she was/is beautiful.
4. great to read all these posts.
5. imo they really are good. i was very impressed by the Farida Jazz i played. played one back to back with a USA jazz and i was hearing a super aggressive tone, they wind there own pickups i believe. it was very well made. good luck with the sale dude Scotts playing is very cool by the way
6. very personal thing isn't it. know one really cares but you.
7.
It's largely about what one's family listened to in the house... Harry Nilsson, Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Beatles, Carpenters, various movie themes... and what one bought on vinyl as a kid at the time... TRex, Slade, Bowie, Alice Cooper... It worries me a little that today's families don't listen to music in the same way that mine did, i.e. as a communal thing, all together in one room. Now it seems to be a much more insular and remote experience, usually while staring at a screen or some type. Shame!
i totally agree. i don't like the thought that younger people are not experiencing great music, nothing to do with taste, just quality. when i was young we used to have a family roast on a sunday and had Bach, or Micheal Mcdonald on the stereo. im sure i sound like an out of touch oldie.
8. i knew as soon as i heard Donny Hathaway back in New Zealand in 1978 i loved music.back then my mum was playing Bobby Womack a lot . it was pretty much a done deal, i guess for my young brain. i think its such an important thing when you listen to music when your a nipper, to listen to good music. . not sure if being subjected to a certain type of music gives you a certain musical perspective,? but thats another thread. anyway when i was a teenager, my sister who has the best taste in music ever imo, introduced this music to me. what was your upbringing into music.?
9. i think there is a difference here. tone and style. I'm so with Big Red X. he's spot on. its about your personality, note choices, style, attitude. imo tone is tone, but you can make that certain tone do different things.
10. this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qCDgSY9G7M
11.

that is fantastic.!!
12.
And that was only at "08:54 PM"... I dread to think what you were posting at "09.54 PM"
that will be the Shakin Stevens vid.
13.
Smiths are OK, their range of magazines, books and stationery are pretty good but their stock of CDs and DVDs isn't what it used to be. I'll get my coat.
no need to get coat. i chuckled. sounded like Alan Partridge.
14.
I like the smiths after the event, but not at the time.
this. i really enjoy there music now. hated it at the time, can't think why to be honest. just hadn't grown up i guess.
15.
I bought the DVD too...still find it hard to believe that they didn't notice that Rainey was playing slap. Becker and Fagen never missed anything so I doubt that something prominent like that would pass their attention.
imo, of course they knew. they just let it go because it sounded great. Rainey's slap was not really out there. just a little more aggressive for that certain part of the song. I think Chuck was spot on.
16. blimey this is an old thread, who dug my old crap up.? do you ever look at old posts and think, i really sound like an idiot. ? thats beer for you.
17. like Luke said. just stop playing until you can find out.
18.
That is what I would describe as "sensible" crazy money, if that makes sense. Always bear in mind , if you buy really expensive hifi equipment, you also have to budget for the price of a property with a space you can use as a dedicated listening room, because unless the environment is correct you won't hear anything like the true potential of the equipment. I have had most of my own relatively modest system for several years, and none of my components are the latest thing by any means- my CD player dates back to the mid-1990's( but it is recognised classic), and the newest thing is my Exposure amp that I bought about five and a half years ago- but a good sound is a good sound , regardless of the age of the equipment, and I am very happy with the overall sound it makes. I know people who have spent a lot more money than me and ended up with systems they are far less happy with. That doesn't mean, however, that I don't recognise the superior performance and potential for enjoyment of much more costly and impressive gear than my own. If I had a more normal and settled home life I would probably have bought a much better system by now, but there seems little point when I seem to hardly get time to listen to it. .
i think a good separate system is only as good as the room your sitting in. and as your point suggests, you really don't get the true potential in most home situations. i live in a detached house, so i have some great M Audio monitors for when the girlfriend is out, and some AKG's when she's in. i have a pair or 1980's KEF speakers that are fantastic, i think there called Cantor 3. huge things
19. I think Lindsey's guitar playing and amazing voice are great on this live classic. as is Mick's drumming. fantastic stuff. an absolute class act.
20. I have always loved this series of programs. loved the one on Led Zepplin. thing i love about this programme is the depth they go to discover the band, the music, the interviews, etc its just a damn good watch, if you love a particular band. just so happens this band are a true gem of a band for me. sorry the title is The Making of AJA, but its actually Classic Albums as you will see. i have it on DVD. its on SKY next week but i beat them to it. i hope you enjoy it if you haven't seen it already. hope you guys can share others that are good. 21. you don't see many of these FMT Jazz's with maple fretboard around. great bass David. i couldn't let this one go myself
22. im not one for high mass bridges, but i had a Sei that had THE most adjustable bridge ever, was very cool. but the best was the nice and simple BBOT on my old Fender CS LT 1970 Jazz bass. threaded saddles.
23. bent bit of tin.
24. a friend of mine has Krell separates and sone fancy B & W speakers, it is incredible. possibly as good as you would want, sound wise. he spent £9000 i think. £350,000 is very silly. its like those in ear headphone's i saw fro £1900. what sort of moron would spend that.??
