1.
I like some of it but get a bit confused as to where the boundaries are between hip hop and rap etc, but I suppose if you like something, then its good, right?
i don't think there are any boundaries. in my experience Rap is Hip Hiop, just a different word for the same genre.
2. When i was very young i loved hip hop. still do. its part of myself. i recognised that most of it didn't have the musical arrangements of the other soul music i was listening to. like comparing Stevie Wonder to Public Enemy. but i still had a thing for Hip Hop. and i don't know why although this is subjective, like anything creative, i was drawn to a certain type of HipHop. the funky kind. Usually it was west coast, with early NWA, but then with New York GangStarr, who to this day for me are the finest hiphop act to ever record this genre. but then i hear the X Clan. Mos Def, Jurassic 5, The Herbaliser just great smoker's hip hop..The Pharcyde The Roots are just epic. anyway, when the chips are down, and i want to listen to some proper stuff. this is the sh*t. imo. DO YOU LOVE HIP HOP.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGpvI9vN9qU
3. oh come on Chuck D would be admiring this.
4. WOW. i remember Marcus Mlller playing a 57 live on a vid, and it sounded so cool.
5. that is gorgeous.!
6. im not a P Bass man, but that is a cracker.!
7. i find them hard to set up a bass with out a high action, because low tension string's have round cores instead of hex core. a bit too floppy for me. DR low rider's are my choice, although i do like there steel Marcus Miller's. It depends on your playing style i guess too. Low tension aren't my taste for a aggressive playing style. chokes up the note too much.
8. Try the Sony XB range. i have the XB300's and there are great, and Bass bias. not foam cups but there very very comfortable. and there cheap.
9. Try the Seymor Duncan antiquities or Wizard 74's. a lot cheaper than others
10.
Have you read his book?
no but i wanna.
11.
'Nard & Nile were a class act alright; in fact Nile is reason I've started playing guitar seriously. In my foolishness I have formed a Disco band just so I can play guitar with lots of Chic stuff......little did I realise how tricky it is to play many of Nile's parts. Many of my mates have said.....'you're mad to try and start playing guitar in a Disco band as first six-string role; try some punk or rock first'......it's taken some time to get the parts licked; but worth every frustrating & rewarding moment.
good on you Bassnut. i love the thought of music inspiring people. i think your mates are/were wrong. Nile Rodger's is one of the greats. a great interview with the master can be seen here. i get so much from what he says. i like him because he's a great thinker. 12.
Nicet Live Concert from the Java Jazz Festival last year. At 29:30 the Bass player shares melody duties with the Sax player, very nicely played as well. https://www.youtube....h?v=qLu_FOa1S_c
this is great ive got to 8.20.

14. the groove of Chic are my bread and butter. but when i hear music like this, it just blows me away. my sister was playing it this morning and his guitar playing never gets boring. i just think his playing is something very special. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUNXI9HDCD4
15. a great band that I've been really getting into lately. always was aware of them but never really listened. i just think the musicians are fabulous. fusion funk that absolutely smokes. there was no alcohol used or abused in the posting of this record.
16. Walter Becker at his best. imo.. from the album 11 track's of Whack haven't heard this in a while. this is just…!!. the lyrics are just great. much better live version, from the Alive in America album.
17.
You'll all laugh but, Moon river (due to the Galaxy advert) What a perfect example of perfect songwriting. Of course, it's of a bygone era but if you look past that, in my opinion, there is nothing you could do to improve this song.
i like that record too. i can't remember the last time i laughed at someones choice in music.and i doubt most people who dig music would. what you like, is what you like. i think this is great, heard it on radio 2 the other day. brings back memories.
