1. Such lovely toys!!
2. Yeh I've heard that some of them are but I have to go on what Ishi told me in their blurb and that was that they were Jap Hot Rods. How one set is determined from the other, I dunno.
3. The first bass I ever had, albeit in red. And it had the checking on it, too, on the neck and parts of the body. The Selmer case had red velvet lining and the beautiful smell that came outta that case when you opened it. I ran it with Trubass strings for years and eventually punted it to a hock-shop as a skint teen and it disappeared. HAve a bump for the memory.
4. I had this model as a kid and, IMO, what lets these basses down are the pups whcich, as I think Bassassin has stated, were probably leftovers from Japcrap EB3 copies. I'd rip those right out and get Rick pups put in there. Obviously a bit of routing required on the rear but definitely would be a neccessary upgrade to what is already a fine piece of wood.
5. Bought this fella about a year or so back from Ishibashi. Most of you will know what lovely gems can be found on that site and this is one of them. Crafted in Japan non-export Fender Jazz, based on an amalgamation of early to mid '60s Jazzes. This bass exhibits the dot and bound necks seen in the 1965 models yet still retains the brass grounding strip to the bridge. I decided to make the hardware black (bar the jack socket nut) and put on a set of lightweight Hipshot lollipop tuners and a black Wilkinson bridge. The 3-ply amber plate is also non-original and there are also aftermarket holes for other plates underneath. Pups are Japanese hot rods. No case but I will throw in a gig bag. No issues bar a few belt scars on the back but nothing through the finish. A nice, light Jazz with a rarely seen neck which sports a matching headstock. Looking for £470 inc shipping within mainland UK.
6. The controls on that thing are just overkill; there's no need to build a bass with such complex switching. I mean, look what Warwick did, all those years ago: you need to go passive? Simple, just pull up the volume pot.
7. Are they worth £950 though?
8. I must admit they look great but I just can't gte my head around the Mexi tag! Hi, Alan! I decided to come back.
9. I had an oly white JB Stacker that John built for me around 7 years back. Let it go last year and shouldn't have. He's not doing commissions but is open to contact.
10. No, not Deek's old bass. I think Barend was destined to have a Mk1 back in his hands. It's always the case when you let something go that you shouldn't have and you hunt high and low to get them back again. Nice meet another Basschatter in the flesh, too.
11. SOLD! Thanks, Barend. Enjoy the bass.
12. I'm truly surprised myself. Pix will be up on Monday afternoon, in any case.
13. On provisonal hold.
14. I have just heard back from the guy selling this and the brown Wal case has been lost in the mists of time!
15. That said, I may do straight swop on a 4003 75th Anniversary. If I can then hide it from the missus as the coin from this 4001 is meant to be going back into the savings!!
16. I'm sure he'll be looking for a minimum of £2.4K. If that seems unreasonable - and I don't think it is - have a look at the new price list. Pix will follow next week.
17. This bass belongs to a Scottish pro musician and he's asked me to act as an itermediary in the forthcoming sale of his late '80s Wal Custom. AFAIK. it's a shedua-faced bass and is around 9/10 condition, only being used for one tour before being superceded by Stringrays. There may also be the Wal moulded case but the existence of this and verification of the bass' attributes will be made when I see it next week. I don't really want to put this anywhere near ebay if I have to so it'll go on bass and Wal fora for now. I'm abroad all next week and will bring the bass back with me and then I'll post some pix. Any Qs, anyone interested, or knows anyone who may be, drop me a PM.
18. I would consider a sensible offer on this if interested parties can't make the asking price. No, trades on this one, though.
19. Sorry, but this bass has been sold elsewhere.
20.
ric novice! whats the diff between a 4001 and a 4003?
Truss-rod system still twin but more contemporary on the 4003; you also don't have to 'shift' the neck manually ona 4003 before you tweak the rods like you have to do on a 4001. Diff pups on the 4001: the fron toaster on this one is, to me, a lot warmer than the Hi-Gain. The toaster makes the the old 4001 sound, really. My bass has the rare adjustable pole-pieces on the rear pup and for thos of you who know about weak Es and Gs on Ricks, you'll know how beneficial this is. Cheq binding, wavy Grovers. That's it.
21.
Last of the checkerboard binding years Could do with some pics to show how nice this looks
Ok, here's one up; PM me if you are interested and I'll supply more pix.
22. This one's still around, guys. No trades, thanx. Blurb is as before:- Reluctant yet necessary sale of this rarely seen bass.It has picked up a few scratches over the decades but it was worn well. Here's how it goes:- Wavy Grover keys Non-full-width inlays Cheq binding Toaster front pup Rear pup has adjustable pole-pieces Original black RIC case Bit of buckle-rash and a few scratches, given its age 4mm tail-lift All original bar one pickguard screw No neck/rod issues whatsoever The backs of the wavy Grovers are secure and not prone to popping off. There is a split from the bottom of the toaster down to the edge of the scratchplate; this is not uncommon on Ricks from that era. Strung with .040-.095 Warwick Reds since I've had her. Instrument dates to May 1973. Comes with original black RIC case. More pix available on request.Would prefer local pick-up and that buyer arranges own courier service and appropriate insurance. May also meet halfway, within reason. Failing that, actual freight will be arranged after auction end and must include insurance. Would prefer cash/cheque/bank draft/bank transfer. Asking £1600-ish on this site. Any Qs, fire away.
23. I'll back up Dragan (and give the bass a bump) on how good these are. They're amazing basses with a good, slim Jazz neck and , yeh, the trim pot inside allows versatility on tweaking your boost setting. Good luck with the sale.
24. You could also try www.ishibashi.jp but that's only for 2nd-hand kit.
25. I dunno about the tuners but Wilkinson does a lot of good stuff. I've got their compensated Tele bridge with brass saddles and it's less than half the cost of the Gotoh and does the same job!
