I picked this up the other day: It's a 2008 Fender "thin skin" AVRI Jaguar. I've wanted a Jag for ages, but somehow kept buying Jazzmasters instead. Anyway, I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket and then this turned up locally. The thin skins are pretty rare. I've read in a couple of places that only 25 of each colour were made. This particular Jag has a Staytrem bridge added, which is very nicely made and works very well. I suspect I will end up replacing the bridges on my Jazzmasters with them too. The scratchplate is by Spitfire and is just stunning in the flesh. The guy at Spitfire is the only one IMO who manages to do tortoiseshell as good as the vintage stuff. Why the Fender Custom Shop doesn't use his work is beyond me. It's interesting that the Jag that came up was in Daphne Blue, as my think skin Jazzmaster is also Daphne Blue! Well, that's one more Fender offset crossed off the list. What I'd like next is a Custom/Maverick, but the chance of finding one are pretty remote, especially at a reasonable price. I did happen to chance upon one in Peterborough, back in either '91 or '92 and it was £495. I'd just bought two Rickenbackers and was totally skint. I really wanted it and have regretted not selling any family members for medical experiments ever since!
Lovely! Love my Jazzmaster.

That is a lovely colour!
My view?... I think you'd be mad to buy a bass you think won't suit you, just because of the year you were born. Just my thought. Others will no doubt, disagree. Frank.
I agree completely. I have never understood this year of birth bass thing.

Unbelievable. One of the greatest live performers I've ever seen.

Nice colour. It's a refinish though.

Ganglion, Tendonitis, North London Bass Teachers

You'd be better off going to an Alexander Technique practitioner for this than a bass teacher IMO. -
I think they're rusty. They can be replaced with stainless steel ones.
I think yellow staples indicates that the wood the cab is made of is diseased.
they look yellow to me?
Look yellow to me too.

That grill cloth is a bit tatty around the edges, it could do with a trim.
It's a good job there are some good originals bands out there otherwise cover bands would have nothing to play

What I look for in a band is other people who aren't bell-ends.
Unfortunately a large percentage of musicians are bell-ends.

First bass I ever had was a secondhand, shorter-than-short-scale Japanese thing that said "Raver" on the headstock. Got rid of it.

I would have thought the reason there are so many Fender bass copies is because the Jazz & Precision are the most popular basses in the world. What would be the point of copying something nobody wants?

If any thread deserves to be resurrected it's this one.
Over here in the States, conservatives do not believe in helping anyone. They think you should just crawl in a gutter and die. Blue
Our countries have one thing in common at least then.

I've always thought he was a massively over-rated gurning bellend & this does nothing to alter that opinion.

It's played on a keyboard on the original.

Yes it does matter to me. There are some that I think look like sh*t that I have used though, Markbass stuff for instance which, although looking like they're made by Fischer Price, are actually really good. To be honest I've never had much interest in amps & cabs, I've only owned five amps in the 37 years I've been playing.
Is anyone else here really glad that YouTube didn't exist when you were young?
I don't really use YouTube & I really don't understand the appeal of it so I probably wouldn't have used it even if it was available when I was young. Having said that, you have no control over other people posting stuff you're in so I am very glad it didn't exist when I was young. -
I'm very similar to yourself but I've not given up yet. I've found the reward when you find the right people more than worth the heartache of when you don't. The problem is it's a long and arduous project
I still don't know if I've "given up" as such, it's more like an indefinite sabbatical. I love fiddling about with basses & guitars still, and can see me buying a bass for tinkering or even investment (i.e. can sell it for more than it costs me) reasons again at some point. One of the problems (for want of a better word) I've faced with bass playing over the years is that when I started, and for the first 15 years or so, I was into quite technically demanding music and so I always had lots of stuff to drive me onwards with my playing. As I got older my musical tastes began to change drastically, to the point where 90% of the music I listen to doesn't even have any bass on it, or if it does it's very basic stuff. My taste in instruments also mirrored this direction, going from quite a few flashy, high end basses to ending up with only a secondhand CIJ Precision, which was a great bass but it just didn't excite me like my Zons did. -

The bass player should seriously think about putting his shirt on. -
