  3. Not Hamer - apparently Burns! Well, not a 12-string in the modern sense, but still. A random pic of The Hollies popped up on Facebook the other day, and I was surprised to see Eric Haydock playing what looked like a Burns Double Six instead of his usual Fender VI. On closer inspection, those strings do look a bit thick... so I did a bit of digging and yes, Burns made a 12-string bass in the 60s. It was even on their now-archived website so potentially was still available as a custom order in recent years - the Double Six Apache model. It seems that all the featured players of the Apache Double Six played it as a standard 12-string guitar, however the glamour shots on the Burns site are all clearly strung as a bass: And, it seems it was used for recording as well! Jump to 1:10 for a slightly hesitant bass solo. Begins well but then he seems to regret starting it at all.
  4. I'm Going To Spain - Steve Bent
  5. Tubeampology, I believe. The design of which was later stolen by Rickenbacker who now sell their own inferior version. The funny thing is, RIC always defended their traditionally wonky pickups by claiming they were covered so aren't supposed to be seen, then they go ahead and sell an item designed to replace the cover.
  6. Are you going to shave the horns down? 😁
  7. Hand Of Doom - Black Sabbath
  8. That's not Muffy at all - I think Paul used a Vox Tonebender, or Fuzz Face possibly?
  9. Distortion/overdrive is a very personal thing and there's so many different flavours - are there any particular players or songs you like the sound of?
  10. I'd say, try a different pedal. The ODB-3 has its place but bass distortion has moved on in leaps and bounds since. It's a very fizzy pedal so might not play well with an already bright and aggressive bass. I'm a massive Spector fan, always have been, and I've always thought they sounded best distorted. I certainly never play mine without some overdrive! There's no reason for an active bass to not play well with a distortion pedal, unless the output is particularly high - thinking about it, if your Rebop has the original non-adjustable Tonepump preamp it could be overloading the pedal...
  11. If you're after something Muff-flavoured the EHX Green Russian is fantastic - HUGE bottom end and not very expensive. As always with these threads though I would say, please post a song with the kind of distortion you're after, it makes it easier to make suggestions 😁
  12. Is that bass at the start of Cannonball a mistake, really?
  13. I Love My Dog - Cat Stevens
  14. It's not a Bass Balls, they gurgle. If you listen at :30 you can hear a uniform phase or flange effect - a Bass Balls would respond to each note.
  15. Lily of the Valley - Queen
  16. Candlelight - Wishbone Ash
  17. Just checked - £569 😖
  18. Semi-Detached Suburban Mr James - Manfred Mann
