  1. Were they making Thunderbirds in 1984? What pickups does it have?
  2. I've just ordered a white one... Gear 4 Music says delivery Tuesday or Thursday... we'll see 🙄
  3. Just sold my Slab precision to Bill. It's a very special bass and I think it has a worthy custodian. May it bring you much happiness Bill!
  4. Bought Phil's Tritonlab FET Overdrive. Very easy chap to deal with, pedal arrived quickly and nicely packed. Well played!
  5. The seller's gone a bit OTT with the description. Always best to keep to the point.
  6. Mine too. In fact it's my favourite album ever! As for the link in the first post, I think it's a fair review. I don't agree with it all, but it's far from a mindless slagging. And Sid Smith is far from a plonker!
  7. It's the Jaguar Stratocaster thing lurking on the left that make me doubt Fender's sanity somewhat...
  8. Really? The bass carries the whole thing!
  9. They look like a version of the 4003s which has neither.
  10. I know, hence my subtle dig at the string spacing 😉
  11. They finally got round to it then. I wonder if it will be a 'proper' fiver and not just 5 strings squeezed onto a 4 string body.
  12. Excellent condition, just a couple of very small chips to the finish on the sides. A couple of the sticky feet have gone missing, no idea where! Comes with original box/literature and 2 x patch cables. Price includes postage to mainland UK.
  13. The Leeds will do that. Really not much drive going on there though, that's the Thunderbird 😁 What we're hearing here though is a very degraded isolated track. A lot of the distortion is a result of that rather than the original bass track itself.
  14. If you are specifically after JE's Quadrophenia tone, I would avoid too much drive - he was using a very clean, warm tone at this time as a reaction to his years of treble. I would suggest a valve amp or simulator but to be honest I don't even think that is strictly necessary - JE might have been using solid-state Sunns at the time. I use my Leeds as it's always on, but I turn down the drive and treble quite a bit. I would avoid the VT Bass for JE-type tones, it has a very different character. I use the Leeds as a preamp, have done for years. I don't think the demo video above does it justice at all - at least not for JE-type tones (using a Jazz bass for the demo didn't help either!). I'm guessing they're using the sample 'Leeds' setting from the manual which is a bit OTT. It really doesn't need loads of drive to achieve the Leeds sound - when dialled in correctly it does it remarkably well. I'm very pleased with it! I wish I had some idea of how to upload a video!
  15. I saw him play with Mountain a few times.
  16. Sold my Yamaha BB424X to Udo who cheerfully collected in person and also insisted on paying in advance. An honest and trustworthy chap. Enjoy the bass Udo!
  17. A very reluctant sale, this. We have here a rather stunning replica of the fabled Fender '66 Slab Precision bass. Put together expertly and aged with immense care and attention to detail by BCer Rick's Fine 52. It's a stunning piece if work, clearly a labour of love. The maple-cap neck is from a Fender Roger Waters Precision and has been aged, amber tinted and has a rolled fingerboard. Period correct decal. Reverse tuners. The alder slab body was custom made to the specs of an original Slab. Nitro finish. The pickup is a Seymour Duncan Steve Harris which I originally intended to swap for something else but it sounds spot on so I left it in. I removed the signature though for aesthetics. It comes with pickup and bridge covers too. Tonally, it's what you would expect - a very bright and growly Precision. It definitely has that extra something thanks to the maple cap neck. Raunch. Viewings welcome!
  18. Not the best quality but you can see the glittery Epiphone here. Full glimpse at the end.
