1.
I watched a few videos on You Tube with guys gurning their way through various Rush tracks and feel that stuff like the one below might be the holy grail of tone. That said, the none of the basses I've pushed through the unit give anywhere like the tone this guy has. I don't own a Jazz Bass either...anyone in my vicinity who does, it welcome to give it a whirl!
That does sound pretty fantastic. I want one. Funny he should go to all that effort to capture the 'Camera Eye' tone with a Jazz when he's got a Rick there too
 2.
There was no issue whatsoever with either low end loss, or disappearing in the mix.
Amazing!
 3.
Just make sure you know what you want, exactly, because THAT is what you'll get.
I want that baby blue one with the Thunderbird pickups.
 4. If I ever went for a Limelight, it would look just like this. GLWTS
 5.
I'm a fan of Rickenbackers, but this is just hideous!
That is a monstrosity... What were they thinking?!
 6.
Saw them at Sonisphere in 2014, I was waiting for The Winery Dogs, and Chas and Dave were playing before them. Great fun and really got the crowd going, and yes, great Bass lines.
The crowd footage from that gig is the stuff of legend!
 7. If that's the concert I'm thinking of it was from the 'Yes Symphonic' tour. The orchestra didn't play on Roundabout so instead they came out front to 'boogie'. It's quite... awkward. The rest of the concert, however, is magnificent!
 8. I bought one last year when Gibson were having a massive sale - £649 I think it was. It sounded amazing, very 'grand piano', but was without a doubt the heaviest bass I've ever played. I knew instantly it wasn't going to last a gig so I returned it.
 9. I don't really buy into this theory... How does the string know how far away it is from the neck? I mean, a string with lower action surely 'moves' as much as one set up a bit lower? Also with adjustable pickups you should be able to keep the optimun height regardless of action. Happy to be proved wrong of course but it's never really made sense to me.
 10. Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I had the good fortune to see Chas and Dave last ight and Dave's bass playing had me dumbstruck all night. He's seriously good. I mean, I always had a lot of time for his playing but seeing him do it live was quite something. Nicely showy too, lots of harmonics and drop D switching going on. One of the tightest live acts I've ever seen - absolute demons the pair of 'em. Good drummer too A nice unexpected bonus was seeing Jackie Lynton supporting.
 11.
I'm totally with you on the who thing. A few great songs, and four awesome soloists. It works, but I just don't get all the hype tbh
I do worry about you sometimes...
 12. I've never really got on with Cream but I love Jack Bruce. Luckily he made some wonderful solo albums!
 13.
??? One of your more surreal posts, my dear.
Apologies! The texture/pattern of the casing makes it look a bit wet. But undeniably attractive of course.
 14. Just bought Rick's EHX Switchblade pedal. As before, a pleasure to deal with - and it arrived the day after I paid for it!
 15. I used one for a while but could only ever use it on low-gain settings as I found it lost some low end as the gain was cranked. Sold it when I picked up a Bass Soul Food as it had a blend control. Still, the Glove's drive tone was lovely and would be perfect in a loop.
 16. I'm happy with Rotosound Roto Bass. I played the SS Swing Bass set for years but after a dalliance I realised I preferred the feel of nickel version. Roto bass are just unsilked nickel Swing Bass, but a lot cheaper. I didn't notice any major differences tonally if I'm honest.
 17.
John Entwistle comes to me in my dreams. Contrary to the serious, aloof character he portrayed on stage he is actually quite the prankster as he taught my how to play 'The Real Me' wrong.
18.
Also, the bass player from the Steve Gibbons Band once bought me a pint. Nice bloke but I can't remember his name. Trevor Burton?
19.
It sounds brilliant. Ray spacing and neck, with Precision sound. While I enjoyed the EMGs I had in it (and the abuse for installing them) the Aguilar 60s pickup is lovely. Unexpected benefit- with the EMGs it weighed 9.2lb. Those are very heavy pickups. Now it's only 8.4lb !!
Now that I could get on with! Well done. I'd love to hear it!
 20.
1959
I think that even beats Bill Wyman!
 21. I could never get on with the modern Thunderbirds for that reason. The old-style Thunderbirds have brighter pickups so popping in some Thunderbuckers is an option. Bit pricey though! I'm really looking forward to getting my hands one the new Epiphone Thunderbird - if they've nailed the pickups it will be a monster.
 22.
I'd say check these out, they'll give you ideas of what the bass can do. Don't copy, be influenced and inspired.
Why is your list more influential/inspiring than one comprised of Lemmy, Paul McCartney and Duff McKagan?
 23.
Here's my three...
Two basses and a guitar neck...
