1.
There is a Barefaced Big Twin 2 in the Classifieds. All the cab a rock bass player needs to dominate the world.
+1! I can't believe it hasn't sold yet. They are amazing cabs, you simply can't believe the amount of oomph they deliver. You definitely wouldn't be lacking with one of these. I'm not a BF fanboi, they might not be to your taste, it works brilliantly for me but you should try as many as you can. There's some real good 2x12's on the market at the moment, I love the look of the Berg CN212, berg's always look classy.
2. Another yes here! Went from Warwick 1x15 with either a 4x10 or 2x10 depending on gig, to my current rig of either a GB Shuttle 9.2 or my TC RH750 paired with a Barefaced Big Twin 2. I'm currently playing in a rock band with 3 guitars and have absolutely no issues with being heard!! 😊
3.
Bogling
Excellent choice! 😀
4. Had a bass Pod XT Live from Hector. Top guy to deal with, pod arrived in original box and very well packed.
5. I've never worn jewellery of any kind so wearing a ring took a bit of getting used to. I started off leaving it at home when gigging, the first gig with it on was when I forgot to take it off, and then I only noticed I still had it on when I was driving home! It'll feel normal in no time for you. Congratulations.
6. Small pub gig last night, strange sort of split level layout of the place means it's hard to gauge how busy it is from the 'stage' area, but as the night went on more people crammed into the upper level where we were playing and it turned out well. Combination of Bongo, Shuttle and BT2 sounded huge, but still struggling to adjust and find a comfortable spot to rest my thumb, I end up resting it on the corner of the humbucker which leaves a lovely sore dent in my thumb! Was chatting to a bass playing friend about it after the gig and came to the conclusion I'm gonna have to get a thumb rest fixed to the scratchplate or possibly have a scratchplate made with a dummy pickup attached just in front of the humbucker slot. I'm so used to having a P pup in that central position on my streamer that it's a bit alien to me. Funny I don't feel the same problem with my stingray though!
7. There is no shame in using cheat sheets, particularly when you have a lot of tracks to learn quickly. I don't want to open up the whole music stand debate again but you have to do what works best for you, I've never used one personally but I have had a pad on the floor, or on a monitor, or a sheet taped to back of a PA speaker with pointers on for anything I'm unsure of. I'm sure the other band members would rather you use cheat sheets and nail the songs. Once you've gigged them a few times you won't need the sheets, and to be honest you're the bass player so no-ones gonna be looking at you anyway! 😄
8.
Thats sounds good. my input is - valve amp + input gain up like this http://youtu.be/b2qb2UTUtrI
What a great sound!
9. Pretty much as all the above for me. Playlist on ipod, 9 hour nightshift, headphones on, hit shuffle, jobs a good 'un! Once you get the structure of the song in your head it becomes way easier to blag it.
10.
Superb piece, wish id seen it earlier.....
You and me both! Genuinely gutted that I missed out on this one! 😩
11. What's the neck profile like on the 98 model? My '09 LX is like jazz bass neck compared to some.
12. Oh b*****ks, I did not need to see this morning!!
13. Incredible cabs. My BT2 is by far the best money I've ever spent on music gear. Good luck with the sale.
14.
It sure is Used to belong to Kev. Absolutely amazing bass, and it no longer bothers my shoulder All it needs is a Hipshot on the E (apparently it's a tricky fit so I'll have to do some tweaks!), and it'll be the perfect bass It turns heads everywhere I take it... very much like the Wal it replaced!
Congrats man, it is absolutely beautiful! I know Warwick get some grief on here for their pricing etc but to me that is as nice as any boutique bass I've seen, and if the build quality, fit and finish of other German Warwick's I've played are anything to go by then it will no doubt be a superb instrument.
15. I recently came across these whilst looking for something else, they are great to practice with. I'm finding them useful as I've recently got involved in a 3 piece originals project and these jam tracks are great for getting your creative side going and getting into the habit of building bass lines from scratch.
16.
The Precision may not be the right bass, but it sounds like your guitarists don't really know what they're doing. Their combined tones sound like a nightmare lol Si
Don't get me started about those two Si! 😡
17.
Ern, you could always chuck an Entwistle P pickup into your Squire. I did that with my jazz and it sounds awesome now. I haven't gigged it yet so can't say if it'll cut through more. By the way, a Bongo HS Stealth is pretty much my droooooooool bass
I did think about the possibility of a pup change. I do think the tone and looks of a P bass would sit well in my new project so I haven't written it off completely just yet. The Bongo is a beast, 18v pre with 4 band eq, Neo pickups, typical MM build quality, the looks might not be to some peoples taste but as an instrument they are incredible!
18.
Nothing new really, but gave the SSI a fretpolish, oiled the 'board and gave the body a quick clean / polish. Looks good! It is quite possibly the best looking Streamer I've ever seen, absolutely stunning!
19. I'm on the other side of the fence, I used to own a USA P bass and recently bought a VM P as I was getting P bass GAS again. I took it to one rehearsal and it's been in its case ever since! I don't know what it is, I just couldn't get on with it. It may well have been the two guitards and their Marshalls, one has a mid heavy sound, the other quite scooped and bassy so finding sonic space can be a pain, hence reverting back to my Bongo mid way through the rehearsal. I'm working with a 3 piece originals project doing funky blues/rock now so may give it another whirl with that. Also to add that I always used my USA with a drive pedal which seemed to really bring it alive so in the interest of fairness I'll give the Squier a crack through a drive pedal at next rehearsal!
20. My previous two cab set ups have been an 8x10 and then a 1x15 paired with either a 4x10 or 2x10, haven't used a 2x15 since my old Peavey rig about 25 years ago. I now use a Barefaced Big Twin 2 paired with either a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 or a TC RH750 and certainly don't miss any of my old big rigs. Don't get me wrong, if I had a roadie and someone else transporting stuff for me, I'd happily have a row of SVT 8x10's or Mesa Powerhouse cabs behind me but I don't have that luxury! I love the sound of the Barefaced, I think I'm one of the few who like the look of it, and when I'm loading into my house at 2am and not scraping my knuckles on the door frame its a godsend! There's some great 2x12's out there now, best thing is to try some out. The TKS's are getting a lot of love at the moment, and if the Berg NV I once had a play through was anything to go by the CN cabs will be beautifully made.
21. Our covers band got offered a pub gig at a fairly local place where we've done a couple of good gigs. Wasn't a great payer so drummer and guitarist decided it wasn't enough to sweeten up their respective partners and declined it. I would've done it, it was about 75% on top of what they'd normally pay us and more than I'm gonna earn sat at home with the in laws and my sister in law and her bloke! I can understand band members wanting to do the family thing on NYE but what I struggle with is the whole "my missus will go mad unless it's worth £X amount", my wife would rather I was home with her but she'd never stop me doing a gig, even if it wasn't a great earner.
22. Out: TC RH450 Sansamp PBDDI In: TC RH750 Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 MusicMan Stingray 2eq Squier VMP What I've learnt: That my patience is almost at breaking point with the 2 guitarists in my rock covers band. That buying a Squier VM P bass was never going to quell the GAS, having owned a USA P previously ( The VM has been used once and been in its case ever since!) That doing originals can be fun and doesn't have to be the endless slog I remember. That doing originals is much better for my playing and means I have to get creative instead of just learning somebody else's lines. That after years of saying I don't like beer, only lager and cider, that beers such as Bath brewery Gem and Bristol Brewing Co Seven are actually fantastic and I should've tried them sooner!
