I did a P&O ferry for five weeks, a great starting point and we were here in blighty every second day so you're not too far from home to some extent. It's great fun, accommodation is sorted, you get fed, you get your clothes washed and all the tea you can drink! Fortunately for us it wasnt a sight reading gig and cruise ships doesnt necessarily mean sight reading, though I would imagine there's more work available as a sight reader. Try starnow.com, they advertise a lot of cruise ships and hotel jobs. Dubai, Indonesia, china etc. Dan

Sandberg make excellent basses and are worth hunting out. Maybe even make a trip to Germany for a weekend and take a look at some. Alternatively theres bound to be a bass hatter near you with one. Dan
Have a great gig! I hope you're getting a fortune for it!
Not as much as we'd like but still a reasonable amount. The place we're playing is notoriously tight when it comes to paying bands. They wont even replace dodgy cables in the house PA! But it's full of students and the wedding we played last night we got from playing this particular venue. Have a great new year everyone. Dan

That makes sense. The aim is to have something small, medium and big. I did a fire works opening and the 410 sounded amazing but I did have to crank it and an extra cab would have been beneficial. To have a 210 would be excellent for smaller things or where just some stage monitoring is enough from something small. Plus Im playing tonight in an insanely busy club and dont fancy lugging a 410 through the crowd. Im borrowing a 210 off a fellow BCer. Thanks every one! Dan

Thanks Chris, I emailed MB the same question last week and no reply yet. That doesn't mean they're bad, just more likely busy with it being Xmas. That was my thinking but wasn't sure how it all works. Thank you Lawrence also. Id like to hear other peoples input. Dan

Thank you for a quite frankly, fast reply! This is what I don't get, the Markbass website says the Standard 410 HR, which I have, will work with the 115 HR or the 210 HF. If the load isn't going to be even then how come 410's work with 115's? Im not saying you're wrong but Iv read and heard so many conflicting answers. Dan

Hey, I have a confusing issue. I have a MB STD410 cab, and want to add a 210 of the same range. The amp is an Aguilar AG 500 SC. So the set up with proposed extra cab is; AG 500 head- 250 watts 8ohms, 500 at 4. 410 cab at 800 watts (8 ohms) 210 cab at 400 watts (8ohms) The answer I have problems finding is what happens to the 210 in the full set up? will the 400 watt cab take the 500 watts, Im guessing the 500 head watts will be shared to each cab? And will the 210 be working harder than the 410 and be more prone to 'farting'? Or will the two cabs be working as they would on their own but alongside the other? Will the watts from the cabs in a stack set up more relate to headroom rather than just power/volume? I don't know and I have googled, wiki'd and searched on here with nothing close to answering my query. Thank you for any light that can be shed. Dan

Couldn't agree more. Cycling is great for lower back and leg muscles, swimming is brilliant as its a great all over work out and excellent for injury recovery. And as iv said many times; climbing! Great all over work out especially the core muscles. I tend to stand with a bias on my heels, this makes a difference over the night. Good move posting this, a problem probably often over looked. Well done! Its a great feeling when you just nail a challenge and everything falls into place. Whats the next challenge? Dan p.s Happy Christmas every one! xx
4. Do not sleep and drink plenty of coffee!
Haha! Brilliant. I have a friend who is a professional session drummer, he got the a phone call to play for Van Morrison. Morrison doesn't have sets apparently and expects his band to know which song and what version he wants as he calls them. This meant iPod, a lot of floor space, a lot of manuscript paper and learning 40 years of Van Morrison back catalogue live and recorded! By comparison we have it easy! He didn't get the job and Morrison sacked his entire team soon after 'cos he wanted a 'new one'. Dan -
Only the intro. Long term view is a couple of weeks once all parts are completely nailed to the floor. PS I am a huge fan of Prog Dave
Haha! I could never get into prog stuff. My dad loved Yes, said they were the best band in the world! Dan -

Gt your head down, listen, sing the bass lines to your self, and go through them repeatedly. I had to learn 30 songs and I only had a day and a half! I used a lot of heat sheets! Dan -
I am an Aguilar AG500 SC user, I also looked at the TH. It's good very good infact but it just lacks ever so slightly to the AG500. To my ears anyway. It is however the best, fattest sounding head for that size! Try it out, you may or may not like it. Dan

One is my full set up and the other is my rig with a mates 410. Dan

I agree, moulded is the way to go. Perfect seal, excellent comfort and the ability to hear. Yes they cost more and there are cheaper alternatives but stretching to getting moulds done will be worth it. Like I say, cheaper ones arent bad, but theres better, and they're worth it. Loreal. Dan
When something awful happened to me, (my Dad passing, he was my best ever friend as well as me Dad) music stopped as well cos it felt "stupid and trivial". a lot of the stuff we both enjoyed used to simply upset me (ho Hum) but and as they say I got to live with those feelings given time. But it took a lot of time and still some music chokes me still after two bars but, I got on the provebial bike. and often think he'd say "dont be so soft!" took up playing again around the time I joined BC and allthough I'll never be the "Pino P" I wanted to be in 1983, playing bass makes me smile again, gets me out earns some cash, and gives me sommat else to think about other tha the day job,...so thats good innit? god what a morose sentimental twat
This in every possible way. My Dad passed away in July, and unfortunately things have turned for the far more sour, the wife he left behind has 'suddenly' chose to keep the entire estate for herself leaving me and my two siblings with no inheritance so things are fairly low at the moment. I have a wonderful girlfriend and unlike this woman, I have a family still. The downside to these feelings is that I don't feel motivated to play or do anything really, add to the fact that its now my job really concerns me at times. But I keep playing because I can hear my Dad saying "just get on with it! Just do it!" So I do, its difficult and I feel I don't a direction to go at times but it keeps me occupied. Dan

I've left my cab in the car before when I've been really lazy! 99% of the time I'll double park, unload then park the car where I can. Your gear is safe and there's less risk of your car being broken into. Dan

I did a wedding, and a well payed one at that to. The first track, 2 bars of guitar then the band all come in on the 1 with tremendous punch and oomph! Only to suddenly realise that there was no sound coming out of my amp, I forgot to turn the volume up on the bass! Did that, still no sound. I also forgot to turn the mute off on the amp. Doh! Still, no one notices the bass do they?! Dan
-
I found with my MB cab that natural sounding comes out as the sound of my bass. Im running a Aguilar AG500 SC, the cab to my ears and playing has lovely growly bottom end and tight, punchy, meaty mids. If you can get hold of one to try, give it a shot! If you live in the North East you're welcome to try my 410. Dan

I remember that stage well! Still feel lm in it at times and iv been playing 12 years. There's plenty of good suggestions here, practice by which I mean play and enjoy it, and find a band to join. It's all very well learning but if you can't play in a band then it's near worthless knowledge. Ultimately enjoy yourself. We all get to the point where we hear something and think "damn I wish I could play that!". Basschat is a wonderful source of first hand knowledge with plenty of people to ask! Keep playing!!! Dan
