how interesting that a slight difference in depth can make a neck feel different. when I was in the phase of getting the exact bass paul Jackson used (cringe at myself) I was only looking at a late 70’s fender. I found an early 70’s but didn’t want it as it wasn’t the same specs. 🙈😩. Rather embarrassing tbh lol

Yes 73. His a AMAZING player. Pino, Freddie and paul Jackson are my fav players. All p bass players. I love the tone of paul and Freddie. A large part of it I presume is due to the Bartolini pickups. Love Bart pickups

cheers for the info. I always wondered what the difference was other than late 70’s mostly being ash bodies. I’ll have to give one a try some day. At the misses in east London. She plays piano and we jamming to Sweet love by Anita baker. Freddie Washington played bass which was an early 70’s fender p.

i've a question for the fender experts. what neck profile was the early 70's fender p basses? I know the late 70's p bass neck profile had thinner nut of around 40mm and more chunky dept.

I read that it can be fiddly. One person on YouTube used a very thin flat head screw driver which did the job. good luck

Congrats. next time consider @KiOgon as he makes solderless harnesses for half the price but as good quality. He can make you what you like within reason.

Oh music nomad who have great videos on YouTube suggest depressing at 12th fret. A gentleman on YouTube named Dave does 17th. Thing is all are extremely knowledgeable. Either way I’ve found my approach and I’ll stick to it so that I make life easy while learning.

You place a capo on first fret to get the nut out of the equation. Fender states depressing the last fret and then measuring the distance between 8th fret and string. I’m finding my way. Just like learning bass you just have to “do” and everything will fall into place.

cheers for heads up. on crewdson I’ve watched the doc many times it’s amazing. I shoot film and his style is very much inspired in what I do tbh. I went to his exhibition in London at the photographers gallery cathedral of the pines. Dream house is my favourite project.

Thanks for links. I actually watched a lot of Dave’s videos. He depresses at the 17th fret. I just find it confusing many people have different views. Maybe the more I do this the do this the clearer the patterns will show themselves. I restrung my 78 p bass with heavy gauge flats. At first the neck didn’t move (chunky neck) but I’ve had to do adjustment reliefs now. Waiting for it to settle. Also nice profile picture. Gregory crewdson is one of my favourite photographers. On the fender website regarding setting up your bass it advises that you place a capo on first fret and depress last fret. Use feeler gauge at 8th fret. I have seen and read other companies suggesting depressing at 17th and also 12th. my question is how does depressing a fret at a different location affect setup and playability? I get completely different feeler gauge readings at 12th,17th and last fret. My neck is a 9.5” radius so set a 0.30mm as relief as indicated on fender website. just rather confused with many different approaches. cheers

Bought a set of D’addario chromes from etienne. His communication was top draw. The Royal Mail was slacking by placing wrong post code and in turn delaying delivery. Etienne was extremely helpful and offered a refund if they don’t show up. Genuine person. Again his communication was exemplary, fast postage and strings are as described.
