  1. Hey bb lovers. I wanted to get people view on the bb1000. How does the sound differ to a normal p bass. Say a fender or a Yamaha lawsuit copy? is the pickups hot? Does the reverse pickups make a noticeable sonic difference? I have a late 70’s Yamaha pulser p bass and have a opportunity to grab a bb1000. thanks in advance
  2. lol I check in regularly also. I was on grays inn road today and had to talk myself in not going to the store in fear of what I might leave with!🤣 last time I went the assistant told me it’s all or mostly commission sales. Tbh you have only a handful of online sellers that go to the detail of Andy who sales vintage stuff. You are right very few bass stores in London now. PMT near old street closed down permanently in December. I was eyeing a late 70’s fender p last summer but the seller installed Wilkinson pickups even though he gave them the originals🤷🏾‍♂️. Seemed like the seller didn’t want to pay for the gallery to switch them. the bass hasn’t moved for a while. I see why.
  3. it went up right after the podcast. wasn’t a fan of the colour, wasn’t me who took it.
  4. Oh nice. from dan a bass japan direct I only know Bacchus as a Japanese instrument company. I didn’t know they had done made outside Japan. Bacchus top end models is considered on par with Atelier, moon, dragonfly and momose. I may have missed some but these are frequently spoken about

  8. i was just about to say this lol
  9. I saw a bb1000 go for 500 recently so it’s hard to gauge. It’s the third tier model. BB1200, BB100 then BB800. Also depends on condition. hope that helps.
  10. Makes sense. I knew it looked familiar. GLWTS
  11. Oh yes roots did have been the house band for that show. I forgot. I agree regarding pino. It’s very much like abraham laboriel or James jamerson. Iconic figures in the musical circle but to the wider audience, not really.
  12. This isn’t based on the current era where it’s given out for trash. His 53 now so his not in this era. How Taylor swift has 14 is beyond me. Rather makes me want to Vomit. Anyhow questlove Is an important figure in African American and also American music. He was or still is in the iconic band Roots.
  13. Nice find. That information will be hard to find. I’ve not found a dedicated forum for Yamaha like tokai. You could possibly contact Dan at Bass direct Japan. His very knowledgeable Where did you find the bass? It’s weird I do Google searches all the time for Yamaha vintage basses. Only Bassbros pop up with any from time to time. I got mine from Bassbros.
  14. Yes his iconic in the hip hop, R&B African American field. 6 time Grammy award winner and nominated 16. His a drummer
  15. His another legend. His muting technique was the stand for me. I actually have his dvd. He was a very humble guy. RIP
  16. I will have to look into them. I don’t know any Japanese shops for basses. Only dam at bass japan direct tbh. Back in 2014 i was unsure on what size to get in a pair or japan mizuno football boots. I decided to go on an Asian trip so I would get peace of mind lmao. Came back with four pairs 😂🤣😂🤣 covid shut alot of my random ideas down. lol
  17. The voodoo album was one of the key landmarks of the “neosoul” movement. D’angelo one of the prominent figures with his first album “brown sugar”. so many timeless songs on voodoo to this day. The kind of album that crafted an era. If you have the time sit and listen to the whole album from start to finish. enjoy
  18. Most definitely a small world. The website could do with a little tlc im sure it will get better over time. lets us know how the bass turns out after the honeymoon period.
  19. I have a soft spot for anything Japanese also lmao🙈. I’ve a pulser 600 coming my way. I just rang curvysounds to let them know the website was down. Had an amazing chat with his wife who basically grew up in the very close to where I did in south London.
  20. Depends what sound you want. I have a 78 pulser 400. I have dr strings, roto 66 and d’addario nickel. Wanted to go for a finger style 70-80’s funk sound. haven’t decided which string I like best yet🙈 lol
  21. Wow beautiful. Vintage Yamahas are super rare to find in uk stores. what store did you pick it up from? I’ve a Yamaha pulser 400 from 78 they are great examples of craftsmanship.
  22. LOOOOL whats interesting is he said the voodoo bass had la bellas. I thought he always used thomastik infeld flats! Either way his a legend. him talking about playing light made me pick up my bass. Turned up the amp a tad and I was surprised I’ve not noticed how sweet the tone is. I normally go funk finger style all the time.
  23. Watched this earlier today. Pino and paul Jackson are my fav bass players. i enjoyed the convo. The soulquarian era (adding Roy Hargrove, Jill scott and pino) shaped my ear as a teen. They all worked on each others albums as they was in the same studios. It took me years later to realise all of them and how much J dilla was apart of the era.
  24. Sorry prob didn’t word it right. The 400 and 600 are the same. I’ll reach out to Brian. Thought I Would ask if anyone here had one hanging around to spare me the hassle lol. Cheer for the heads up on Brian.
