1. I cannot believe there are people posting here who have never heard of JJ nor heard the stranglers play!!!!! Are you really all babes in arms or something? Twig Walking on the beaches, looking at the peaches...
 2.
i play in the Quireboys www.myspace.com/thequireboys
MySpace is blocked here in my day job office... Would that be the same Quireboys that had a #2 UK album entitled “A Bit of What You Fancy” in the 80s?
 3. I play in this band: http://www.last.fm/music/Sad+Lovers+and+Giants as in my sig. http://www.fender.co.uk/products//search.p...rtno=0350100306 Ashbory Bass
The Ashbory Bass brings back what was referred to as "the epitome of originality: the most innovative bass guitar ever created" in Guild's® 1987 literature. The 18-inch fretless scale and super lightweight body make it easy to create the growl of an upright or the punch of a standard electric bass. The patented Ashworth transducer and the silicone rubber strings are what make the Ashbory so unique, but the sound for live and recording applications is what makes it a necessity for any recording studio and a treat for any live performance. Available in Black, Frost Red, and Moon Blue. A sturdy, specially designed gig bag in included.
I'm probably gonna make myself look like a total ignoramus here but I've never seen one nor even heard of them before!! An 18" scale? Silicon rubber strings? WTF? Tell me about them
 5.
don't beat about the bush now will you :)
i suspect he might be after trying that too...
 6.
I used a two-channel amp, .
Is the right answer. Remembering to set levels for each channel at the soundcheck.
 7.
Customs officers have keys which allow them access to TSA locks. They don't have the keys to an ordinary padlock you've just bought from B&Q, which is why they would not hesitate to cut it off if they wanted access to the case. When you ask "Will a leather belt around the case be adequate security these days?", what sort of security are you talking about? Enough to stop the case coming open accidentally? Probably. Enough to stop someone either nicking your pride and joy or worse still, slipping something dodgy into the case? Absolutely not. At the end of the day it's your bass, your case, up to you really. If you don't want to put a new hasp on the case, don't. But don't expect a leather or elastic strap to keep you or it safe.
Ok thanks for that I was unaware of the TSA approval thing. I have bought one of these: http://www.tripneeds.com/prosafe-900-tsa-l...reen-p-219.html and will fit a new hasp. Thanks
 8.
Padlocks are an absolute no-no if you're flying to/from/in the US, that's for certain. It's more and more the case in general these days too. The best bet is to use a TSA lock. These allow those awfully nice customs people to rummage around in your bag without having to smash it all open.
That would require the addition of a hasp to the case though. How is that any different from a padlock anyway?
 9. I have a 5star case for my precision which used to have a hasp on it which allowed me to padlock it when I went on tour and had to stick it in the hold of a plane. This hasp has broken over the years and I will need to fly with this bass and case in a couple of weeks. I really don't want to drill the remains of the old hasp off and put a new one on - too much hassle. How do you guys keep your basses secure when flying with them? Will a leather belt around the case be adequate security these days? Advice please.
 10. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fretless-Precision-B...%3A1|240%3A1318 What is this? Does it look like a salvagable bargain?
 11.
I've had two Kay P copies, mine were the natural finish, strip-ply neck, feels like it's made of lead
Sounds like mine - a 'honey sunburst' with a white scratchplate and weighed about 200lb LOL I'll have to see if I can get it down from the loft and set it up and sell it.
 12. I was bought a Kay P-bass for £30 new by my Dad when I first took up the bass. It was the worst lump of wood to be palmed off as a 'musical' instrument ever to grace this planet. I've still got it somewhere in the loft. It was almost impossible to play, the neck was fat the action about a mile high, the frets were in the wrong places! It's a wonder I ever continued to play......I couldn't wait to get a proper bass!!
 13. OL so my serial = JV80694 recorded here just in case like# which makes mine Oct to Dec 1983 see here: http://www.21frets.com/squier_jv/serialnumbersanddates.htm
 14.
Bear in mind that yours is an 84
I bought it in 84 (sold as new but I believe old stock) but tonight I'm going to check the serial to establish when it was made. It is EXACTLY like this one here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26004 - but mine is a little more 'mojoed'.
 15.
At least it's cheaper than this one.
JESUS!!! OK Who wants to do a swap for a 4 string Stingray? LOL
 16. You know it's been years since I got a cheque from the PRS....they must owe me a few bob by now.
 17. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Squier-JV-Series-57-...%3A1|240%3A1318 I refuse to believe that a Squier JV precision could be worth that much. As I've posted a few times today mine cost me £149 in 1984....and it needed refretting after a few months - the original frets seemed very soft- and proper setting up to make it playable....I wonder how much mine might be worth these days?
 18. Compressors normally have at least 3 controls being Attack, Threshold, and Output Gain. So I am confused when you say you turn the compression up to X.....compression is a balance between the attack time, the threshold in dB over which compression is applied and the output gain (how much is applied).... ???
 19. I have a Squier JV P-bass. The scratchplate is warped ( too much stuffing a plectrum behind it during gigs).... It is tortoiseshell ( I think it's 4 ply) and I was looking at this: http://www.allparts.uk.com/precision-bass-....html?p=product It has the correct number of holes (13) but will they be in exactly the same place? My current plate doesn't have a truss rod notch but this one does.... £46 seems a lot to sink without knowing for definite that it will fit. How could I know?
 20.
..but how did you cut new slots? A
Carefully in all honesty. I did it with part of a hacksaw blade through the rust!! and then I put A LOT of pressure on a cross head screwdriver to impress the bit on the screwdriver into the rust!!! The screwdriver did not survive screw removal! Anyone used this place: http://www.allparts.uk.com/Allparts-home-c-276.html The parts I'm looking at are out of stock but available in 7-10 days........do they mean that or is it one of those sites where you place an order and maybe they'll send it out one day eventually or maybe not?
 21. What size are the scratchplate screws on Fender basses? I notice Fender don't list them in their parts catalogue but mine need replacing. They've gone rusty!! One of them ( the one by the bridge under the strings) was so rusty I had to cut new slots in it to remove it recently. So what do you guys use to replace these?
 22.
According to ebay, it sold for £995

Wow!

link? thats an insane price

Here we go. Shipping tips it over a grand though
That bass is exactly like mine!!! I cannot believe it went for so much!! I bought mine new in '84 for £149 Are you sure that went for a grand? Why?
 23. http://www.last.fm/music/Sad+Lovers+and+Giants/+events April 10th (Good Friday) The Blackout Club, Rome, Italy April 12th (Easter Sunday) Club Totem, Vicenza, Italy April 26th Gagarin 205, Athens, Greece It's gonna be very strange. Personally I've not played bass at a gig since 1989!!! I last played any gigs in 1992 (keys)!! Am I going to be nervous or what? These clubs will be full (they're proper large venues) with hardcore 'fans' who know all the lyrics and I'm going to be rubbish!! I know it!! LOL
 24. I have a theory on this finger licking fellow....in these days of no smoking venues....was he a smoker keen to top up his nicotine fix mid gig?
