Yeah i'd take that over a Precision any day. It'll serve you for a long time and the only reason to upgrade is something called GAS. Seriously though - nice buy and it'll save you having to upgrade because you bought something 'too basic'.

The topic of 2x8 Cabinet implies it is the cabinet. I've seen them in a couple of shops but not dared to ask to plug into one... maybe I will soon, am curious as to how such a small cab will perform.

It is fair to say that an Ashdown [i]flat[/i] is dull, but that's what the EQ is for. It doesn't take a lot of tweaking to make it just as bright as any other amp, and still have plenty of headroom on the EQ controls. Not sure about the Hartke gear - never tried the VX cabs.
