1. I find the obvious template people are given to be terribly off putting and very lazy. Also most of the bassists quizzed seem to use Precisions into Ampegs, a bit cliched ! Bring back Weekend Warrior...
2. Out of sheer curiosity, I would like to know what kind of usage people get out of the For Sale forum(s). There is no commercial angle to this, i've just noticed how hard it is to sell things at the moment (for myself and others). I don't think the prices are the issue (best value i've seen on a lot of things), but just that people don't have the spare wedge at the moment ! All answers are anonymous so no-one will know who has answered what (in terms of privacy for your budget or reasons for selling). The more people that answer here the more of a feel we get for what kind of sales get made here and if most people go for low, middle or high end gear. This should in theory determine how likely you are to shift something ! Feel free to suggest any more poll options. [EDIT - Added poll option for £2000+]
3. Oh well, i'm in last months copy !
4. Did you get yours today ? Hopefully mine is waiting for me.

6. So that's your post after the edit ?! It's still pretty xenophobic and bordering on racism. Whilst it is your prerogative to only allow UK sellers, it is fairly idiotic and embarassing (for you) to suggest that all members from Europe are scammers.
7. I've played a fair few of them, they've all be top notch but I've never felt any affinity to them. I find them a little to 'spaced out' and flat to look at (example here and here) and the aesthetics put me off investigating them in depth.
8. I've had odd things happen with strings when the ball end was at a dodgy angle (compared to other strings), might be worth loosening it and giving it a slight turn.
9.
My brand new 6-string fretless Progress III arrived today; blown away doesn't even describe it. I'll probably post some more pictures later with a decent camera, but for now it's play times!
The pickups look like they're made of chocolate .
10. GAS mostly . Seriously though, it is a beautiful instrument that is utterly astounding to play, but - tonally I want to hear a Musicman and this isn't quite there. It's a little more reserved and probably better suited to someone who'll get the most out of it. A few years ago I was after a Stingray 5HH (after having a 4H for a while) and couldn't get one so traded for a Lakland 55-02 (MM/J pickups) - this was great, but again the sound wasn't the same as a Ray. Then had a Corvette 5 $$, but too Warwicky sounding (baseball bat neck too) ! Eventually here I am with the Overwater, the highest quality (construction and sound) bass i've ever had, but i'm still lusting after that ballsy Musicman sound, even though I know it is in essence - a downgrade. I'm going to PMT tomorrow to play a Bongo 4H to see if I can find fault with it, might take the Overwater too to A/B them, it may make me see sense !
11. You're considering ordering 2 custom basses from a luthier whose basses you've never tried out ?
12. Or buy it for £1200 (offers considered) and i'll track a Bongo down myself . Or a Stingray 5HH.. next best thing !
13.
I have been able to touch type for years & it's not made any difference in my playing ability that I can see.
+1. I was touch typing before I played guitar and thought it would help, made zero difference.
14. The standard Epi T-Bird (non-pro) pickups are quite high output IMO, I don't think changing them would be of huge benefit - especially considering the cost of the pickups compared to the cost of the bass.
15. FFS ! Bongo GAS has come back with a vengeance . Anyone looking to do a straight swap for a Bongo 5/6 (excellent condition) has a deal.
16. I use a Stagg one but because of the way the padded fork slots into the main stand, it twists at an angle that allows the T-Bird to remain upright. I'll take a pic later if I remember..
17. I can't think of any basses that actually do have active pickups, just preamps. Why do you want to change them anyway ?
18. I wouldn't mutilate your Jazz by having it rerouted - it won't make it more valuable. I think you'd be better of selling it and getting the Aerodyne you really want.
19. You and me both sunshine, have a bump .
20. This thread is 3 years old, you are better off PMing the seller rather than reviving the thread from the grave !
21. Oh, hmmm. I've never tried to so will experiment and let you know.
22. The influx of yamyams must be purged !
23. This subject has been done to death, but... the way I see it in a lot of cases: Bassist X plays a Fender and is in a famous band. Beginner Y loves the band/player and wants the same bass as him so gets a Squier, after saving up he buys the Fender and thinks it's the best thing possible because that's what his hero plays.
24. I agree on the vibe that classic instruments have, seeing all your heroes playing them makes them a wonder to behold if you get one eventually. But, this doesn't mean they are the best instruments available. Playing something modern can give you a different insight into your playing and may indeed make life easier for you, it depends if you're already content with what you have - if so then perhaps GAS is making itself known .
25. Stop bumping this please, i'm trying to pretend it's not really here !
