1.
See what you mean, but maybe if you're going in to blues for the first time there's something to be said for getting a feel for the full range of the tradition before diving in?
Given the timescales, if the OP just wants to be able to pick up the basics to get through the audition, I was thinking the more specific the better. The bigger picture can follow....
2. Yip - for this thread to be any use to the OP, we need something a bit more specific re: flavour of Blues...
3.
You're part of the problem, WOT, that Roscoe is almost irresistable!
Hmmm? Oh, you mean this one? Sorry
4. Ashdown. LOL. Why can't they just come up with a good-looking amp that wins on all fronts, market it properly and stick with it for a while?
5.
"True watts" is nonsense. I don't care how loud an amp is on paper, I care how loud it is on a gig, so Warwick are not going to sell me an amp by dissing other manufacturers.
I dunno - I kind-of see his point. If this amp does what it does without using clever power management - which some people don't get on with - then it's a fair comment to make.
6. As I've mentioned elsewhere, they feel similar to the La Bella's, with a bit more going on in the mids. Not zingy like Chromes - it's definitely a mids thing.
7.
Also - are the Lakland ones as good?
Yes.
8. ...I forgot to mention that 'Burst'n'Blocks Overwater J too, which I know won't be my cup of tea sonically, but MY GOD IT'S A STUNNER.
9. What's wrong with you people?? Why are the classified pages bursting with more lovely gear than usual? I have a small collection of lovely basses and amps that are very dear to my heart, yet everywhere I turn there's lovely CS and vintage Jazzes, peculiar CS Precisions, Deluxe P's, Vanderkley cabs, Mesa stuff... what's going on? The temptation to sell most of my stuff and replace it just for the sake of it is overwhelming. Get behind me, Satan! *dons GAS-proof suit*
10. This is why I try not to get involved in these debates. The majority of the world's iconic basslines were played on Fenders. Some of them probably had BBoT bridges, three-bolt neck joints and gappy neck pockets. They're not anything like as problematic as some people think. If it bothers you, walk away.
11. That's how they relic 'em...
12. The space! He's da man.
13.
Why does 90% of bass gear videos always have someone slapping away at the speed of light with a ridiculously trebly tone? I'm playing bass professionally for 15 years and not once I was asked by engineers, musical directors, or band members for a sound like that. In what style of music does one use this kind of bass sound? Honest question.
I dunno. It puzzles the hell out of me, too.
14.
"Classic bass amp sound"? Spongy low end?! WTF is he talking about? I've never enountered a Class D amp design that sounds like that.
I know exactly what he's talking about. I certainly don't need 1000 watts, though. If it's an amp that'll hold its nerve at a decent volume, I don't need anything near 1000w. While I'm on, what's going on with amp design these days? Markbass? Fugly. Ashdown? Fugly. Genz Benz (Streamliner excepted IMO)? Fugly. TC? Fugly. This one? Fugly.
15. I've played a couple, including Warwickhunt'a which is for sale on here. They were both lovely, and I think the relic'ing is extremely tastefully done.
16. I really like the look of these. Soooo cool.
17. I used to think I preferred chunky P necks, but I've recent decided it doesn't matter a jot. As long as it doesn't feel like a wide, shallow plank I'm happy.
18. I'll confess I've never heard of them before - I'll ask around locally and see if anyone knows owt.
19. I love these things. Here's the pics for people like me who are too lazy to click...
20.
Video shows what appears to be a brand new bass being unpacked but the bass in the pictures is not new, as I can see a cracked finish and all that dirt around the pickups etc, so what is being sold here please?
Closet classic = light relicing.
21. Fab - looking forward to seeing that.
22. Owain mentioned he might pop along, Fatherhood permitting - I'm sure he'll bring one (or two) along if he is. Fingers crossed.
23.
If GenzBenz really are using just a bulb for illumination, then that's just rubbish. Why on earth would you not use LEDs these days and so remove the need for replacement?
It's an LED. There was a dodgy batch, and quite a few have failed.
