1.
I agree. I've been to Morzine and back for a wedding and this is still blocking the inter-waves?
Right on! The best way to let this thread die is by bumping it to complain that it's rumbling on forever.
2.
I am only too happy to answer ANY questions that you may have concerning my past 16 or so years, indeed, any other topics may also be considered.
Oh... Me first! Conservatories are too hot in summer and too cold in winter: Is this myth or fact?
3.
I feel the same about my Compact. And the Vintage was even more of the same!
It was your Vintage that made me realise what I was missing... :-)
4. FWIW, since getting the TKS 112s, I've been enjoying mids like never before. I just don't feel I have to be as loud. The cabs don't have massively low extension or sizzly highs - they just 'speak' in a way that suits my style - like that fat tone on classic 70s recordings. At larger gigs, running the two of them gives me all the authority I need.
5. It's worth reminding everyone that if Jimmy hadn't have come under pressure from 'the mob' on TB, the OP would have been left with a $5000 bass not worthy of the AC name*. It didn't have to end up in the public domain. JC could have quite easily have avoided that. *allegedly, based on information available
6.
Either Molan should say the buyer messed with it himself or should refrain from posting more fuel IMO. Your not helping your mate out at all with these cryptic posts
With apologies to Barrie, I have to agree. The OP gave his side of the story in a reasoned manner, with a lot of supporting info. Some people put a lot of faith in that, drew conclusions, and have been chided for it. Following a sarcastic, over-defensive rant from the other party, it's now being suggested via someone else that the OP tinkered with the bass somehow. The people who got chided for the former are hardly going to buy into the latter, are they? it's worse than ever.
7.
All I, and others are saying is that there are often two sides to every story.
Absolutely. There are always two sides to every story. Since this whole tale kicked off, I've been trying to refrain from making any judgement in my own mind until I heard JC's POV. All I've got to go on so far is an overly-defensive and sarcastic response from him, which doesn't help.
8.
Ah, yes, I see..hmph. I am graciously honoured, and somewhat bemused at the comments that you have all made. Yes, indeed, it's no longer a mystery, I admit it, its me.. I was hard up at the time, and was desperate for a new set of strings which bassist magazine gave as a reward for writing in. Id boiled my old Elites in water and vinagar and they were sh..ed. They did cock up the article and forgot to include my name, but after a couple of faxes they got it right, and I was duly rewarded with a couple of sets (5 string) of Rotosound strings. Trace Elliot loved the article and gave me some goodies including a T shirt and a guitar strap that I still use. The bass was indeed a Bass Collection SB315, and I had replaced the pickups with the famous BassLines actiives...They sounded FAT. I still use the 1x18 bottom cab (it was custom made for me by Trace, and has been 100% reliable. (I have literally used it for hundreds of gigs). I still use the 4x5 bright box, but have replaced the 2x10 with a Trace 4x10. I still gig regularly in and around the Coventry/Midlands areas, and yes, I am, Fran Pettifer.....(the waistcoat, sadly, was stolen at a gig), I've sold the Bass Collection, and now use a Yamaha TRB5p.
You, sir, are a bloody legend. *doffs cap* Why on earth didn't you get a namecheck in the article?
9. I think I've owned a couple of rare'uns: 1983 Fender Walnut Elite II - I bought it in Santa Monica. It now resides in Texas: 1981 Fender Walnut Precision Special - first version: Absolute tone monster. Bought in Germany, now with a BC'er: Roscoe Beck IV in sunburst and Maple - I'm not aware of another this colour in the UK. Currently resides with me :-) :
10. I've had great service from both Bass Direct and Bass Gear.
11. More constructive: have a word with The Bass Doc to see if he has something more 'correct' in stock.
12. This isn't particularly constructive, but I think the Mighty Mite necks have the plastic truss cover at the neck. That looks so wrong to me... Sorry :-(
13. I'm a fan across all ears - Fly By Night, Signals, whatever - but the one thing all the albums had in common up to HYF was... good songs. Then the rot set in, and the death of the vocal melody. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy the DVD. But I'd love to see a DVD of them tearing it up without all the distractions. It's getting silly. And expensive, ticket-wise.
14. The strings were there for the whole tour. That's a LOT of cheese.
15. Yes. I think you should!
16.
What's going on at 6'27"? Is there NO audience, or are they all asleep?
They were all away checking out the latest posts on the Alleva Coppolo thread on Talkbass.
17. This one always rang my bell. Is it still in BC-land?
18. They're common-or-garden Jazz Deluxes pimped up with LEDs and a shiny cavity plate. I don't even think Mark King likes them.
19. Try raising the action a bit - let the strings breathe.
20.
It says at the start of the trailer that "In 40 years, rush has only ever performed as a trio". I don't think that's true! Did they not used to have that Hugh Syme guy - or somebody similar - on stage playing some keyboards in the 80s? Rush experts, please shoot me down if necessary - but I at least thought that was the case.
Nah - Hugh played 'em occasionally on the records. Live was always Ged, triggered or sequenced.
21. They need to get back to writing songs, rather than stitching riffs together in ProTools and slapping a melody over the top. CA is a very small step in the right direction.
