1. Does anyone use a string winder? if so which?
2. Weird this. I've just sold my expensive USA Jazz because I've bought 2 new Squiers, a 50's tele in natural & maple and a VM amber precision. Both superb instruments and for what I play (church) and my level of incompetence they are more than adequate. Also bought the £100 HB Jazz My Gas is fulfilled unless.......... That said I have an SCPB-2 in my box.......
3. Totally agree with the above, never seen quality like this anywhere else.
4. Wow, bargin! I wish I needed one
5. I think that's great, well done! Since I've retired I have done a lot of things that were 'beyond me' and like you I found that with a bit of determination most things can be done. I'm currently making brackets to fit gas struts to my MX5's boot lid as it won't stay up.
6. Have a quick look at Harley Benton on Thomann, they have a lovely looking neck thru. this: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbz2004.htm
7. I've had loads since I started playing about 5 years ago and last year decided I like a Precision best. My small hands aren't too fussy about one but I like the simplicity of 1 volume and 1 tone. at 67 anything that makes life simple is worth it. Plus the thump is very addictive! My 'best bass' at the moment is a new MIM P, but I rtecently bought a new VM amber/maple jobbie and that's great too. I've just ordered a CV 50's to experiment with. Also who can resist the HB Jazz (see basses) ?? Awesome bit of kit. Plus their 50's P bass is back it stock........ It's fun without breaking the bank plus it gives me something to do now I'm retired.
8. PM'd, I'll have the scpb-2 please.
9. No love for this wonderful guitar?
10. Another great, faultless deal with Karl. Lucky sod now has my USA Jazz. Great comms and we had a good laugh as usual. Top banana, stay well Karl and thanks again. You're a true gent of the burnt toast brigade.
11. I've had a G&L tribute and stupidly sold it, never seen a used one since, I'd jump on it if one came up. I even bought a new maple neck/board in case a body came along they are amazing for the money. I'm still reeling at how good my HB Jazz is, it's the best bass I've ever had for out of the box string balance etc'.
12. Aren't the pickguards nice? That P looks wonderful to me, If it had a maple board I'd have one here as well.
13. Please don't reduce this any more, I'm only human
14. Well done Chris, so, who's the bloke in your avi?
15. Thanks for the excellent review burrito, I liked the idea of this bass, it's just a bit different isn't it? I know I'm shallow but I hate that chopped off 'skirt' pickguard, to me it ruins the look. Just my opinion tho'
16. Neck sounds similar to yours Ike, I do like the J&D, it looks great in blue or green and I may well get another for the set.
17. Ok, neck is very similar ( sorry I can't remember your name cos I'm old ) better finished and nowhere near as sharp. Strings make a big difference too. The pickguard is what it came with, feels as good as a usa one to me. I only unscrewed the pickguard to take the cellophane off so I haven't looked at the routing to see if you loom would fit physically but the bass feels worth the effort. HTH.
18. Yeah Redstriper, pickups are slightly less powerful but they sound more authentic to my ears, ash body is very slightly heavier but it sits easily on my shoulders. Might be a week or so before the other one turns up, I'll keep you posted.
19. Just got back in and it's sold, thanks Karl, PM'd
20. I have reluctantly decided to sell my Jazz bass. It's the best colour and neck combo ever made in my humble opinion. made in 2002 it is in original condition, and is stunning to hold and play, there are no problems with this instrument. Weight is 9lbs 10 oz on my digital scales but it's very well balanced on the strap. Action is low and well set up. There a couple of small marks to report: Where the headstock meets the neck there is a very small scuff on the back. On the bottom edge of the body on the rear you can feel a little roughness in the paint but there's absolutely nothing to see. I disclose everything I see to be perfectly honest and clear. It comes with the shaped case of the day that works just fine. There is the remains of a sticker on the top but it doesn't bother me. The only thing I would be interested in is a mint 50's precision & cash my way. Prefer the Squier version if I'm honest. Price is £675 delivered to UK. **Straplocks will be changed back to standard** Pics: Thanks for looking
