1. The neck is probably Ovangkol, I'd say. Very nice bass!
2. I think it's probably a unique piece down here and honestly, never seen another one for sale. Not sure about the number of units made but I think it's pretty low.
3. Hello! Up for sale a nice (and pretty rare) 1987 Leduc Lady B fretless. J style bass with bolt-on maple neck and tilted headstock, lined rosewood fingerboard, alder body and solid pewter grey finish. Almost no wear at all, Gotoh chrome hardware and pickups.
4. Yeah, never seen another unit like mine. Steve Harris used the same preamp, if I remember correctly.
5. Yeah, I modified my 1153s... one in a two ways with a soft-dome mid tweeter, the other one is 3 ways with a 6" mid and the soft dome tweeter.
6. If it doesn't sell in this week I'll put it on ebay
7. A guy I know didn't listen to me when doing this and... well, exposed the truss-rod of his Corvette 5.
8. Sold thru ebay. http://www.thomann.d..._db112_225528_0
9. Smaller brother of my 427... must be nice.
10. I guess the SPB3 is made to be used in a "set" while the split coil of the guy wasn't... otherwise I guess he would have bought it. Or maybe the J of the set wasn't powerful enough? Not sure, it's been a few years ago.
11. I didn't have the bass here to check the pickup height but of course I would have tried to find a balance in some other way or use a different split coil, yes. I don't usually like the sound of overwound pickups but in that case the guy just needed very hot output, the tone was only second in order of importance.
12. What makes those neck feel huge is the shape, not the front-to-back thickness. Work on sides and you'll be happy. Besides, there's not much material left before you dig into the truss rod routing so don't remove material from the center, if you decide to do it.
13. I didn't like the sound much but the guy had a very hot P bass pickup in center position... don't remember the brand/model though.
14. Once I made a J for this specific problem. If I remember correctly, the impedance was over 11K... a simply overwound coil, nothing special. But honestly, even if the owner was happy, it didn't make much sense to me.
15. Besides the P is composed by two coils in series... a lot of wire around the magnets and the impedance is doubled for the series wiring. A single coil must be pretty big to achieve a good balance. Or you have to set the P much lower than the J. Another issue: the P picks up a portion of the string that moves a lot, while the J picks up a portion of the string much closer to the bridge, weaker and much smaller in movement.
