  1. ... and it's not even a very good arangement. Starkey should ask for his money back.
  2. Readinng the article again, I see that Jones described McCartney as 'the worst bass player I ever heard'. Perhaps Jones only ever heard a load of highly technically proficient jazz/funk/session guys playing bass and then McCartney ... or perhaps he just never heard me.
  3. Jones didn't hire Starkey to play drums. Starkey hired Jones as arranger for the song 'Love is a Many Splendoured Thing' on Starkey's first solo album Sentimental Journey.
  4. Is that the swimming pool, where the mermaid is?
  5. Someone said to me after a gig , 'I am surprised you play bass, you're not really tall enough'. I'm 5'10", as if it mattered. Quite a lot of people are quite stupid as well as quite sexist.
  6. Here's just one example ...
  7. That makes me not a bass player!
  8. I usually find it's the unimpressed who mention Mark King. I usually deny all knowledge of him.
  9. So in Finland it would be Epiphoni? Yes?
  10. It's not all about tone. It's also about note choice, rhythm, phrasing, and rests.
  11. Probably Fenediru in Japan
  12. In Japanese, I am told, it's Aibanizu.
  13. Ibanez was originally a Spanish company spelled Ibáñez and I presume pronunced 'ee-BAHN-yeth'.
  14. Sorry, I couldn't help it.
  15. It's Epiphone like telephone or microphone.
  16. ...which accounts for the popularity of so-called cover bands. People prefer songs to virtuosity, and I tend to agree.
  17. Effective marketing to a captive audience. I like it.
  18. I don't perform at home. I tell them when the next gig is.
  19. Jones exercised his freedom to speak, and then others have exercised their freedom to speak. No-one died. Then you exercised your freedom to speak. I can't see what the problem is ... unless you are outraged and offended by people speaking their minds
  20. I prefer this ...
  21. I don't have these negative experiences of guitarists. If a guitarist didn't know how to play for the band and for the song, I would be out the door sharpish. But then I also would not go to a jam night to perform or to observe.
  22. Did a gig last weekend and used someone else's rig. There were two cabs, possibly a 12" and a 15". I don't remember what make of amp, I didn't take much notice. I did move the lowest EQ slider down a little when FOH guy said it was quite bassy. But I stuck to neck pickup and full tone and volume on my bass. I've found over the years it doesn't pay to sweat too much over these things. I was later told 'It sounded good out front'.
  23. Did a gig yesterday, first of four bands. Left home 5.45pm. Soundcheck 6.30pm. On stage 7.30pm. Off stage 8.00pm. Packed up by 8.15pm. Pint of shandy 8.30pm. Home by 9.00pm. Early night. Did say hello to second band bassist but never saw third band nor headliners.
