  1. But many of us are very similar so there is very good reason and a sensible motive to test and even to adopt some methods that have worked for others.
  2. Never heard of him before but I can tell he's better at it than me. Only 17 here but probably practised quite a lot ...
  3. I don't play jazz, I rarely go above E on the G string, I don't get asked to solo, I use open strings whenever possible, and I certainly didn't spend 35 years listening to a drone ... ... but I've never had complaints about my intonation on upright or fretless whether lined or unlined except when I already knew I had missed the note. Like was said before, the OP will have to choose; but it doesn't take 35 years to learn some competence on a fretless, lined or unlined.
  4. And, as you know, even with lines the test of a note is the ear not the line.
  5. Partially different perhaps but really not completely different.
  6. Woodroffe's in Birmingham used to stock a lot of Kramers, IIRC. Probably the same ones that finished up in Musical Exchange.
  7. That's exactly what I was trying to say.
  8. I don’t disagree with them, I just have a different experience. I have played lined fretless more than unlined but I still feel happier, more in control and better intonated on unlined. The OP will have to decide for himself.
  9. Is it a Kramer?
  10. Having played both, I much prefer unlined. Either way you will still need to use your ears and if you are going to use the lines then you'll be staring at the fingerboard. A quality unlined should have side dots probably at the 'fret positions' 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 etc. and, if you need to look, they are easier to see than the fingerboard lines would be. Worse still is when a lined fretless has side dots in between the 'fret positions' - that is really very stupid in my view and is worse than no help.
  11. Yes, he looks much better with short hair too. So do not avoid that look.
  12. Here you go ...
  13. A better pic here ...

  15. ... and Ronnie Lanes bass if you're interested:
  16. I know we had this before some years ago but it's worth it again and I always really liked Ronnie Lane's bass playing.
  17. Surely in an anti-gravity situation the strings play themselves? And you don't need a strap.
  18. Ace Kefford ... second half of the bridge ... and a slab 66 Precision ...
  19. That's a relief. Phew.
  20. What about hanging basses on a strap around the neck and shoulders? Is that OK?
  21. Didn't Gibson do a Les Paul model with an autotuning system, maybe a Jimmy Page Signature? But it never worked properly? Am I imagining this?
  22. Flatwounds will not cure a buzzing fret.
  23. I find it is rare that I have to tune up during a gig.
  24. Saw Hamilton show this afternoon and it was absolutely tremendous. Congratulations to all of you.
  25. This thread needs videos ...
